| Quote ="DaveO"Leaving early is not something I do but they did not get any applause off me on Sunday. Applause was not deserved and has it ever crossed your mind if you applaud rubbish like that when they do actually play well your applause are meaningless?
Dave'"
Agreed. I always try to stay to the bitter end, but it's difficult, if not illogical, applauding such rubbish as we were served yesterday.
Last season, the players reacted to having been booed against Huddersfield by giving us fans the cold shoulder treatment at the end of the next home game. I think the very least they must expect is the same thing in return when they let us down equally badly.

| I didn't go on Sunday - living in London means i can never get to every game. But, i think i would have booed them off too. I've done it before and i'll probably do it again. I don't want to watch a team that just turns up to play the last 10mins of every match. I don't mind if we're being completely outplayed but being outenthused is a joke. I've seen us get smashed by Saints and Leeds and stayed to applaud them off because they obviously tried their hardest under difficult circumstances, but over the past couple of years, the players/coach have started to run out of excuses. Silveware or a final this year or else Npble should be shown the door...

EXACTLY! - The game was only 12-6, and fans leaving with twenty mintues left CLEARLY shows no faith in the side.... 6 points in it, 20 minutes left, surely, you have to agree that that is a sign of no faith in Wigan? There's no way you can disagree with that... especially you 'Charlie Seeling', you sound like an intelligent bloke, surely you can understand where I'm coming from there...

| But I wanted to leave early so I left early. Is there a problem with this? I never intended to stay to the end, so it wouldn't matter if they'd been winning (or losing) by fifty. I don't see how or why people should be criticised for exercising their freedom of choice. Its not like a crime. Why let it irritate you?
For what its worth, the people who stay till the end don't irritate me.

To be honest, it's a nothing thread. Some go early, some don't. It's the same across the game. They're all still fans. It's the ones who sit in their armchairs at home rather than going in the first place who aren't genuine fans - and there are plenty of those, many of whom openly admit it, who regularly post on the boards of other clubs.

Right, your not even talking about the same thing - If you leave regardless of them winning or loosing then you clearly have nothing to do with this debate - If you'd read into what we are talking about, we're discussing why people leave & boo based on the teams performance - You leave regardless of this performance, therefore, it doesen't concern you - Hence the reason i didn't reply to your first post, because it was totally irrelevant - If you leave regardless, then that's your decision, maybe you want to beat traffic? I don't know - But what I'm stressing, is why people boo and leave based on Wigan playing bad, nothing else.

| Don't get me wrong I was as bitterly dissapointed with Wigan's performance and Mathers' lack of balls as the next man.
However, Wigan fans that boo the team, and especially those that booed Mathers on his return from the sin bin are feable.
It's these kind of deluded fans that thought after the Huddersfield game last year that the only reason we ain't winning the league is due to a 'lack of pride in the shirt'.

Come on, he wasn't alone in that.
However, I wouldn't argue that he didn't do much. He tried, but nothing came off for him, and all it usually amounted to was costing us possession (often on the 3rd tackle).

No your right he wasnt the only one, but he seemed to be puffing hard from pretty early on.I know he was given more time off in the close season and i think it shows badly.I dont know why he was given extra time off as he hadnt played that much last season and wasnt involved in the worldcup.Lets hope he turns out to be the player were hoping for.

Same here. I could not bring myself to clap them on Sunday, certain players did deserve it for there efforts, but not the team collectively.

| You can usually set your watch by some of the people near us who leave before the end.
However it did raise a smile when some people were halfway down the steps to the exits when Martin (?) was lining up a penalty goal to make it 14-6 (this was around 10 minutes to go), then when it hit the post were seen scurrying back to their seats thinking "we could win this"!

| from a business point of view and given the economic slump we are in, i bet the chairman would prefer 15,000 paying speccies even if some leave early or boo the team off rather than 8 or 9k who just sit there to the end and don't voice their opinions. it is up to the club to provide a product that
keeps the fans happy, this clearly hasn't been happening and needs sorting out.

Why the hell does that matter?
On subject, personally i dont care who leaves early, everyone pays there own hard earning money and cant make there own choice at what part of the game they want to leave.
Should the people who go down for a beeer/snack after 30 minutes to beat the queue be called for it? They are leaving the half early after all.
Its personal choice and who can blame people in games such as that, it was boring, cold, pointless. Some of the people leaving has young kids who looked blue they were that cold.
I have ever only left 2 or 3 games early, the last one was the game in Cardiff against Saints last year. Can you blame me?
People do need to stop going on about this kind of topic, it happens to EVERY team in EVERY sport, people will leave early.
Get over it, move on and enjoy the season.

Tim Smith is unfit because he has major health issues. In 2005 when he had his stellar season he was very slim, not much bigger than a Sam T. Even then he was never fast but he was incredibly 'fast' between the ears.
It is tragic so see how his life/career have deteriorated.

How can these people call themselves loyal fans? They are happy to stay till the end when Wigan are winning... Why not stay till the end? Regardless? For one, it was their first game of the season - Ok, we didn't play as well as we could have, but it annoys me to see these fans who call themselves 'loyal' and wear the '18' on the back of their shirts leave with a good 20 minutes to go? There's obviously no trust in the side also... with the score being at 12-6 aswell, clearly Wigan could have come back within those 20 minutes! Another thing which really did wind me up was when my friend shouted 'Call yourself Loyal Fans?' to a number of them leaving, and a man turned around and told him he'd be waiting for him when he left - Before hurling a s**t load of abuse back at him! These people aren't Wigan fans - A real fan is someone who follows the team through all the s**t...

Another thing I wanted to talk about was people saying Smith is rubbish - Obviously it's going to be hard to fill Barretts boots but come on, the lads played one game at 6? You can hardly rely on his performance last season when he'd had no preseason training and came on from sub - What cracks me up is the fact that you will all be licking his booty in a few weeks when he plays awsome.
