Right decision by the disciplinary, but not a nice move by Sam and hopefully he didn't intend to cause an injury. If everyone did that to players stood in the tackle nobody would have knees left

I can't believe they have sent him a warning letter over it. Cunningham wasn't tackled. That's like saying dont tackle hard in case of undue pressure on whatever part of the body. Nothing surprises me though with the RFL.

So, we've been warned for tackling. What next? A warning for running, passing backwards and kicking the ball?

The ref hadn't called held so Tomkins did what anybody would do and stopped cunningham offloading the ball by taking him down to the floor.

Tomkins should send the warning letter back to the RFL telling them where to stick it!

no charge but it says it was worthy of a penalty (shame thaler didn't award it as one)

Warning letter for a standard tackle



What about when players come in 3rd man to finish a tackle off and they hit them in the rib area if he breaks some ribs would they get a warning letter?

They either need to sort this out lay a law down or let it all go

The only person at fault was the referee for not shouting held.

If they don't get any blame for not hearing a hooter that every other person in the stadium heard, they're not going to be blamed for not shouting held are they!

Refs don't make mistakes according to Cummings.

I've actually seen the letter. It's from Stuart Cummings telling Tomkins to pick on someone his own size.

If the roles were reversed and KC had done the same to Sam, he would have snapped his leg in two. The RFL realise this and have sent him a letter.

The RFL realise that that type of attack to the standing knee of a tackled player is very likely to cause injury and so have sent him a letter.

If a player the size of Tomkins can cause someone the size of KC suspected medial ligament damage by attacking the standing knee once tackled, smaller players would pick up serious knee injuries every week.

FWIW I'm not sure he meant it, but it's to be discouraged, hence the letter.

KC wasn't tackled as the referee had not called held, play was in progress.
If the Saints 9 had offloaded play would have continued.
KC could have taken the tackle but tried to continue, Tomkins tackled him.

He went in on the knee joint side on. Might have meant it might have not. Hence a warning. We don't want players of any team getting legs broken through that sort of tactic developing. Again, not saying Tomkins meant it but I suppose they may be trying to nip it in the bud before we get 2 player holding a man up and someone coming in on the knee from the side.

I remember Vila Matautia carrying the ball in and dipping really low at an opponents knee with his shoulder. Wasn't anything illegal about it but he got warned or maybe even banned. Suppose it comes down to spirit of the game

IIRC he did Chris Chester with it and put him out for a while. No doubt the same people claiming total innocence were doing the same thing then...
