Could see that happening, although it takes away his main strength of running wide
Bit of wishful thinking with Davies on my part

That would be great but wouldn't there be loads of paperwork that needs doing? Doubt the club would go through all that effort

i doubt that would be the reason he wouldnt come back! if we wanted him, we'd find one of the 3 people the club employs that could write to do it!

that'd be mine, possibly with prescott starting and hock on the bench though.

My only worry there is that fact neither of the second rowers are effective in general attacking play.
I'd probably start Joel Tomkins and have Hansen on the bench. Unfortunately I'd leave Flanagan out despite his impressive recent performances.

I would hope that the clubs could sort something out, it would in my opinion be the best and most sensible option.

Yeah, heard hes played there a few times in Auss. We are lacking a prop if Fielden gets banned and would allow Tommy to play hooker.

| not a bad idea playing piggy at prop, id like to see phelps at 6 at least once this year (apparently he played there for aus school boys) and it would allow us to keep ainscough in the team, he could be very dangerous against salford,
although i dont think noble will want to make too many changes.

Noble has put him there a couple of times during games(Salford and Barrow) but i agree i wouldn't have him there starting games.
We need to develope him as a halfback not as a Richard Horne style utility, jak of all trades master of none type!
Smith does miss out as he's not in the 19 so it's Tomkins and Leuluai at halfback again.

| a good FB is a ball player, when used effectively a FB is one of the most important positions in attack, many NRL teams use their FB as a main source of attack, often as a deep lying second receiver or as someone to link up out wide to create an overlap with the winger and centre.
Take a look at K Gidley, KM Hunt, Billy Slater, Minnacello, and Stewart at Manley, they all link up with the halves to create another attacking option.
Manly have greatly missed Stewart (their top try scorer) since recent proceedings.
So how does Sam fit into the FB role? He is a skillful young man, someone who can stop a gap, someone who can side step and someone who has pace to round defenders. Sam running off the halves would give Wigan another attacking option. Currently he's wasted as a 6 next to Tommy as a 7 who can't play 7, did you see how we failed to use Sam as a 6 against Wire? Did you see how slow and awkward the team moved the ball around? It just wasn't happening, and it won't with Tommy at 7.
Sam himself is an old fashioned running 6 a controller who throws the ball around like Smith would, so playing split halves is also a bad option.
At FB he could observe the game from on the pitch, and not be in the thick of it at 6 where every pass need to be creative, the pressure to deliver in attack would ease off if he was linking up from FB.
He has the intelligence to contribute as a great support player and speed to finish a try.
How will he be defensibly? He's never let us down yet, with 2 wingers (Roberts and Richards) who can pull back and catch it will support Sam at FB.
Currently we look dire in attack, no creativity at all in the halves, look at how poor our results are its clear we need to change things around, our defense now looks solid, we just need to attack. Give Flanny or Pryce a go at 6. Let Sam support from 1.
Remember Wigan started Shaun Edwards at FB and Brisbane started Lockyer off at FB and both them two turned out just fine.

Instead of comparing Sam to Richard Horne, why not compare him to Edwards or Lockyer? Both who were played at FB when starting out?? Then moved up to 6 when older, more experienced and ready?

| Tomkins should not play Full-Back. Simple as. Lockyer and Edwards are different people, with totally different attributes, yes there all played well at FB then moved to the Half-Back area. But no way, we need to either buy or produce a guy for that the FB position, Tomkins as to stay at the Number 7 spot, next year the new 6 and him and Tommy all playing the triangle. Mid-season signing next year a FB, when it’s finally realised we do need a good one, not someone that is average in that area.
B. Anasta played at FB for Roosters at the weekend, played sh ! Te.
I’d rather see Ainscough in the FB spot, if the attacking team puts the bomb put from 30-40metres out, we’ll pretty much screwed anyway whether Richards/Phelps or Roberts are playing FB running round like headless chickens as the ball comes down, so for that, I’d much prefer to see Ainscough, collecting the ball on the try line and running at the line, tackle busting/ clean breaking for fun!! More chance of going from our end to theirs, with Ainsy, compared to Phelps/Richards and Roberts, who have all played there and how often do they beat the first man?
Cameron Phelps
Amos Roberts
Martin Gleeson
George Carmont
Pat Richards
Sam Tomkins
Thomas Leuluai
Andy Coley
Mark Riddell
Paul Prescott
Harrison Hansen
Phil Bailey
Sean O'Loughlin
Joel Tomkins
Michael McIlorum
Iafeta Paleaaesina
Gareth Hock
Changed slightly from my other line-up after thinking like a Noble 4 Second Rowers for me

He's not playing 7 now. Hasn't all season, do you see Sam throwing the ball around? no. He's hardly ever first receiver.
He's a running half, a 6, he's not played 7 yet in SL.
How Wigan play.
Sam 6 running off Tommy 7
Sam 6 running off Smith 7
The only time we ever play split halves is when Tommy and Smith are on the field on the same time, one controls one side and the other controls the other side both operating as a 7 in split halves.

| I'm on about next year. The next Rob Burrows comes to mind with Tomkins, if only he'd be first reciever, next year once he's gained the experience, ducking and dipping under tackles. Taking the line on.
