| I'd like to see him in the centres, which is his natural position, before we can fully judge him.

| Gelling seems to be the opposite of most wingers in that he's better in his own half than the oppositions. In particular he seems to be the opposite of Karl Pryce, especially in terms of effort.

| He runs in hard from his own half, comfortable under a high ball and his defence is good. This is why IMO he keeps getting picked above any of the academy lads who could be a bit more suspect in defence. His finishing and ball handling at time is atrocious though and he has plenty of errors in him. Wane needs to decide if risking a potentially poorer defender but better finisher is going to be worthwhile.
Against Wakey he could put Sam back at 1 with Murphy on the wing instead of Gelling? Though I think we might see Sam in the halves next week.

Pryce would have probably scored all the chances which Gelling missed and yet still would get slated.

I agree. If Pryce was good at anything it was finishing off tries. Gelling really does need to start making the most of his attacking opportunities. He scores a few tries that not many other players could score yet also messes up opportunities that the vast majority of players would score from.

Not disagreeing with you, but i defy anybody to point out any other "Strengths" Pryce may have had. And i was one willing to give him a chance.

He is not, and never will be, a winger! My preference would have been King, although I have got to accept that he did not make the most of his opportunity earlier this season. Pat Richards would have scored a hat full this season.

| He let's himself down time an time again with basic errors.
Murphy would get Gelling's wing spot against Wakey were it up to me.

| Gelling has to be replaced.
I'd put Thornley on the wing to get him started in the first team.
Should we have problems at centre, like last night losing Daz, then he could switch to there. Hughes it not a replacement centre.
Murphy was excellent last night and I hope he gets another chance. I do doubt it though. Hope I'm wrong!
Gelling has had his chances and not taken them.
Time someone else was given the opportunity.

| Sounds like he had a tough night last night which is a shame. I'm convinced he'll be a good player for us long term but certainly not on the wing. Also if Murphy has played as well as people are saying then he probably should get a crack on the wing. He's more of a natural to the position and will have that enthusiasm a youngster brings.
On a side note what happened to Goulding? Heard he went off but not heard what with. Fit for the semi?

| SW said at the press conf that Goulding had "turned his ankle".
Wasn't asked anything further about the extent of the injury.

Pre-injury Pat Richards would have. He's not the same player that won the MOS.

Even still, he'd have scored alot of the chances that Gelling has bombed. Even in his last game agaisnt Hull he scored 2 tries that I doubt Gelling would have. He might not be 2010 Pat be he certainly isn't finished.

| Made one mistake that cost us but other than that I thought he did ok. His knock on in the first half was more the fault of Farrell for passing a ball that he shouldn't have passed.

It was a perfect pass. There are no excuses for dropping it.

| I don't get everyone hate of gelling yes he bombed a try but don't see a 6 page thread slating faz for bombing the try were he made the break
Yes gelling ain't a winger or as more important to some a WIGANER but give him a chance
donnt remember pat ripping up trees in his first year
Against widnes I had some stupid woman slating him behind me at any oppertunity at one point the ball got swung fromright to left carmont didn't catch the ball and rolled forward to gelling who knocked it forward picking it up and it was him who got the abuse
Next set carmont knocked on AGAIN and nothing said and that says it all to me

Did you go to Hull? I'm interested because that day he looked refreshed. He started the season slowly and seemed to be carrying niggles but after a few weeks rest he was exceptional that day and looked back in the old grove. To say he got his knee injury at the wrong time would be an understatement.
The thing with Richards is even when playing with those niggles he's all class but when he plays at 100% he's simply brilliant. He makes difficult things look effortless.

| I wouldn't expect a guy who is practically over the line to throw a cut out pass to me and maybe Gelling didn't either. Yes he SHOULD have caught it but Faz is as much to blame for bombing the try because he should have just put the ball over the line

Nobody is giving Gelling credit for his knock down that saved a certain try in the second half.
Why?
We need a scapegoat!!!

I've stuck with Lauaki as my scapegoat for most of the season but, much to my annoyance, he's quite good so I'm struggling to justify it. I may switch to Gelling.
I'll see how this young fullback pans out first though before I do switch.
