| Quote ="grovelane"There are two things here. Nobby might put him back in this weekend to 'give him a run' or (as I think should happen) Nobby sticks with the same pack, don't fix whats not broken etc. Hansen should come back if
a) Someone gets injured.
b) Someone loses form
c) He earns the right with outstanding performance in the reserves.
However, I would like to keep Hanses as he is a good squad player. We need strength in depth and competition for places. Yes we have Farrell and Mossop in the reserves but are the ready for SL yet?'"
Same question as last week though:
Who do you drop for Hansen this week?
In regards to Mossop and Farrell, they could cope with Super League with ease, but aren't ready yet. If they stay on current course then both will be excellent SL players.

Nobody.
Its up to Hansen now, regardless of how he plays in the reserves the standard is not a reflection on how he would go in SL.
Hansen now has to worry about outperforming the likes of Farrell in the Reserves and ensuring he is the next in line once there is an injury or loss in form. If he does get a chance he has to take it, if his form slips below that of Farrell in the reserves then he may as well look for other options as it would be doubtfull there would be a way back.

Yep, all down to himself, you won't worry about the likes of Hock, Tomkins or Bailey, just get your head down and perform your better in the reserves! Earn it back

Stick with same for me. He has to earn it/prove himself.

| If we didnt have Bailey then it would be an easy decision, Hansen would be in the 17 every time. Hansen is as good as Bailey in defence and offers more in attack.
When Bailey goes at the end of the season then it looks like Hansen would be the one to take his place, however next year I'd be expecting one of Mossop/Farrell or Flanagan to step up.
Its a tough one to call and its good that we finally have competition for places and a strong squad.
The main question now we have a strong squad is, are these players willing to be part of a squad or do they want to play 1st team rugby elsewhere?

Yeah. People who have seen Mossop regularly, do they think he could be converted into prop later on in his career?
From what I've seen him he's a big lad and runs strong and hard.

When the reserves played Huddersfield he played prop and ran the show. He got the headline in the League Express, which is excellent for a forward, and made more impressive by the fact that in the same game Pryce scored a hat-trick and Smith was outstanding
Oh, and Korkidas was packing down agianst him, and Mossop dominated him

| Next year, if Bailey goes! If Hock and Tomkins are still performing like they are now, Hansen in my eyes won't be defo for that 17th spot! He'll have a big fight off Mossop for it!

I think he has to really, i think phelps will stay and make the fb spot his own and smith is on his way to earning a contract, thats if he wants to stick around though.
We're gonna have to lose a big earner because surely smith/phelps if they stay will want improved contracts, as will sam and shaun, and we need a new prop!

he either leaves or has a reduced contract, we simply cant afford to have him on the payroll with the rest of the players we have for that position who are on a lot less

The only player I see on that payroll who will be on less is Joel Tomkins. I can't see Hock being on pennies or Bailey. I'd guess that out of the 4 opf them, Hansen is on the third most money really.

so bailey, given hes on more than hansen and takes up a quota spot, should be the one to go unless he takes a reduced deal?

i can because he seems to like it here and he isnt very old (27?). all depends on the money and the effect it has on the SC with regards to new recruits

Doesn't mean a damn thing as shareholders will only see the public accounts. That shows the wage bill and not individual salaries.

I think he played all of his junior rugby at prop so he's no stranger to that position. Remember him at a national camp when the 3 props in the 'probables' squad were Mossop, Mike Cooper at Wire and the other being a regular poster on this very board.

| He will have to earn his way in but I think he is a far better angle runner than Bailey so Mr Smith would probably prefer Hansen
Bailey should go at the end of the year, Hansen, Hock, Lockers and Joel being the back rowers.
Will Mossop be a prop or 2nd rower in people's opinions? If he is going to be a prop maybe we could send Eamon out for a season on loan and have Mossop covering the props with Farrell covering the back row?

Not saying someone didn't say something Alex, just that as with anything the info needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as they won't have heard anything official.
Lets be honest though he probably is on a high 5 figure salary if not 6 figures. I'd say only Smith and Phelps of the Aussies are on 'small' (and I use the phrase carefully) salaries so letting Bailey go would free up some cash we could use better else where in the squad.
That said I like Bailey as he always gives 100% and doesn't phone in his performances like some imports we've seen in recent years.

I'd say Bailey would be at least on 6 figures, SofO and a ex-test centre isn't gonna come for less.
