| Quote ="Itchy Arsenal"I hear that some HMRC checks had to be carried out due to a request by SE which shouldn't take 9 months.
It may not have taken 9 months but he asked not to be disturbed during the 6 nations. The truth is we know that the deal was sorted and in place but that Edwards has done the dirty on the club.
I agree though, move on and pin Lammy down long term. Give him time to implement his philosophy and some players who can deliver it. We’ll be fine.

| I’d love for us to dangle the carrot of Lam taking over full time and see how the players react. Do they believe in his methods and do they want him to coach them long term? Looking at them so far you’d say no chance but with that uncertainty lifted or partially lifted, maybe they’ll rise to the chance of getting it settled longer term in Lams favour.
I have to say though I’m far from convinced but would love to be wrong.

| Quote ="Cherry_Warrior"Watching Tomkins' performances so far for Catalans makes me even more sure than moving him on and Hardaker signing was deffo an upgrade. Hardaker has been good in a poor team and will only get better, he is still finding his feet. I don't want Lam to go (yet) all of me is willing him to turn it around but his excuses are contradictory and baffling. He needs to put his finger on the button fast. Before Wane announced he was leaving i wanted him to go, I just felt we needed a different direction and style of play. Let's be honest, the rugby was very boring and predictable going forward. We started games like we were going to put 60 on them then let them back in nearly every time and used to win by a couple of try's. I was to see us start demolishing sides with no prospect of comebacks. His defence was second to none but wanted to see a team that performed all season not the last 5 games. When he announced he was leaving i was sad but still thought it was the best way to go. What we are seeing with Lam is still the same players who can't attack very well but seem to have lost the ability to defend too. You can't win matches without one or both of those things. Maybe the players just aren't good enough, maybe Lam's hands are tied regarding recruitment and he is stuck with an average squad with a couple of top players in it. Shaun Wane had a distinct ability to eek out every inch of effort in the team but now that shield has been taken away we are seeing the mentallity level from our squad. I said a couple of weeks ago that at some point the players have to take responsibility and a personal pride must kick in. They know they can do better but don't seem like they want to. Maybe Lam is too soft. Either way, scrap the Edwards thing. I couldn't care less if he is a legend or not. Not heard a squeak out of him for 20 years and now all this. Let him carry on in RU and never invite him back to the stadium again. The club and fans are far more important than a trouble making mickey pot from Standish. Move on. Get behind Lam.'"
Another master class in defence and attack tonight from Tomkins.

| Until the final pass for Yaha he was pretty good but not fantastic by any stretch. We could really do with him at seven alongside Hardaker and Williams but the club was never going to pay 300k a season to keep him as a game managing half and not the marauding, game changing full back he used to be.

It would surprise me if Barratt coached here.

Just don't see lam as long term. Really hope he can turn things around but we are a mess. Too many team changes and probably changed too much too soon. I don't like how he puts the blame on players after games. That should be kept in the dressing room.
Don't get me wrong would love him to turn it around but so far not even a flicker of a thinker or an innovator. If we get spanked by Salford which is a distinct possibility then I'd say if SE doesn't come the club will get shut pretty quickly

He knows he can change his mind and tout his services about because he doesn't have the contract the club claimed he signed. One of the reasons he said he would only take over for 2020 was that he was under contract with Wales and wouldn't break it. It would be infinitely harder to be in this mess both from Edwards side and any RU club/nation wanting him now had he signed a contract.

| As an outsider it looks like Edwards has pooped on Wigan from a great height. Naive of IL not to have a signed contract but Edwards wasn’t blackmailed into giving “that” video.
I’m guessing there will be no Cunningham style statue for him. Having said all that I was never sure why you would want a coach who had been out of the game for so long and had never coached a pro RL team.

Effort needs to be going in to finding a new coach and the half a new team he’s going to need. Moves for good players (not just scraps that are left) will be getting made now and we need stability and for potential new recruits to know who the coach is going to be.'"
One possibility is IL [iwants[/i Edwards to come out and state he's not taking up the coaching roll at Wigan in 2020. It won't make a scrap of difference, but IL can attempt to claim the moral high ground.
Either that, or bad situation is being made worse.

| I do not care a jot who provided what clarity or says what - it is all just hot air and with no one ending up with any real credibility out of this ridiculous situation (fault lies all around despite what some may claim).
It is time to end this sorry mess and move on, Edwards will not (or should not) be coach here next year so we need to end the recriminations and look to find someone who does want to be here and who knows RL and can take the club forward, experience will be essential given the huge amount of player turnover likely over the next season or two.
Time to move on.

| Major error is with Wigan and IL. If anyone is worked in business or contracts knows you must secure a contact, otherwise the agreement doesn't really exist. All this verbal agreement or handshake is too vague.
Considering previous contact/announcement issues, namely the recent 'lie' about John Bateman, it's hard to have any sympathy for IL, especially as he's a seasoned businessman and knows the ins and outs of deals/contracts.
However, all this can be rectified. Shaun can decide he wants the job and IL can provide the investment into on-field talent to allow Edwards to build the team in his vision using his contacts and status across both codes.
Many on here have cleaned their hands of Shaun over this, but it can be argued there's a bigger picture. Who else is obtainable who has such status in both codes? Who else can genuinely attract top talent from union as well as SL/further afield?
Having Shaun Edwards back in RL is not just a massive step for Wigan, but for RL. It's a win-win, he's a proven winner and has a massive 'rugby' global profile.
I don't see who else can bring what he can bring.

I would agree if I knew for certain that he really wants to be here, nothing he has said gives me that impression, furthermore I would always be nervous that if the dark side came knocking at his door he would be off like a shot, leaving us in the cack without even a shed of remorse from the mercenary Mr Edwards.

Spot on this. Not making ANY player or coach sign a contract is like daring them to change their mind. This is especially true when there is quite a long gap between them joining the club.
The simple fact is that Lenegan should not of been parading Edwards if he had not signed a contract. He should of just announced Lam on a one year trial and left the Edwards announcement until mid season this year and he was signed to a contract.

Get this pr!ck dropped and move on.
Love the club & town, my . You’re nothing more than a greedy southerner with a Wigan accent. I don’t want someone who disrespects my club, anywhere near my club, ever again.
Bore off with your half d effort to get away from the commitment you made. Grow a pair and just tell everyone what you want.
It’s ok though, because he ‘respects everything IL has done at Wigan’.

If people were't convinced that Shaun Edwards is a dirty little sneak who should never darken Wigan's doors again, they ought to be after this interview.
It practically screams 'England come and get me! I'm all yours!'
I've never read an interview with any sports personality as pathetically self-serving as this.

If a contact was drawn and signed he couldn't just up and leave. It would have to be with the agreement of the club. The non-signature is the main issue.
But I agree, it does seem th'owd Shaun would prefer a trip to Twickers at the weekend.

| I think the phrase we are looking for is he has 's*** his hole full'.
I can sort of see why IL hasn't closed the matter yet - wouldn't put it past SE to claim he had his contract broken if things don't work out on the dark side - but we should be sounding out whoever will be here in 2020 now.
Disappointing the SE has gone down this route, but we can't make him come. We could do without seeing him down here for a while though.

One or two might have an issue, but they have fewer numbers each day, I suspect.
I'd love Edwards never to receive the phone-call he is so desperately awaiting from England RU, come back to us with his tail between his legs and then get a big V-sign from Ian Lenagan. Sadly, I suspect our chairman is too nice a bloke.

| Wasps have confirmed they’re waiting to talk to him after his holidays as well. I really hope we wrap it all up this week and confirm we have withdrawn our offer and will instead be looking at other options, starting with giving Lam the chance to cement the job (presuming he wants it long term).
The team needs investment but we’ve got some talent in there still.
