As an outsider, would your chairman not have consulted the RFL before doing this??
In general Wigan fans don't seem to have a great opinion of the guy

| I find this all a bit odd. Often one of the big issues from the fans point of view is we get a snippet of information to make a judgement from without being party to the full facts which often leads to the wrong conclusion.
I'd be shocked if the RFL were not involved, I can't see how a club can call a fixture off without approval from the RFL so unless we did, though i understand your point I can't see how we can be docked points, unless of course someone comes up with an idea such as breaching the spirit of the fixture list.
Bottom line is if whoever is in charge of preparing the pitch, whom I would have to assume has all the relevant knowledge and skills has judged the pitch cannot handle 2 games then one has to be called off. Given that we are the tenants and the company that own the stadium favour the football club there's little doubt who's match would have to be postponed.

I'm pretty sure the RFL have been consulted along the way.
What makes you think they haven't been?

And what do you think the other clubs would think of that? What if Widnes make the top 8 or top 4 on the strength of those two points meaning that a club ends up in the middle eights or loses a home game in the super eights? If Wigan did not consult the match commissioner or the RFL then they should be fined heavily at least.
How someone can the pitch looked o.k as they walked past it beggars belief. How close were they 50 - 100 yards. My back garden looks ok this morning but when I actually stand on it it's sodden.

| The issue is not with the pitch being sodden, its down to Wigan Athletic saying they don't want us to play on it as they have a "six pointer" on Saturday.....end of. Lenegan as always then tries to dress it up as it being in the best interests of both clubs when deep down inside its because he has the backbone of a flump.

| Not here to Troll, but I do think it's becoming more and more apparent that you need your own ground. Never liked the notion of ground shares in the first place, Christ if Cas can manage a new ground anyone can.

| Can't realistically give the points to Widnes, it's a game they might well have lost and it could have big ramifications on the final table. Neither can they be docked from Wigan as I don't imagine for a minute that the RFL won't have been privy to this decision. To be honest, regardless of the statement, I suspect this might well be a circumstance beyond Wigan (RL's) control. Maybe the only thing to do is to regard it as a simple postponement due to weather, i.e. in the same way as if the ground were flooded or a foot of snow had fallen? It 100% smacks of an unequal partnership though.

In what way would giving them to you (I'm assuming you're a Widnes fan) be fair on the other sides who actually have to win games to earn theirs?

In the same way that it's not fair for Widnes to have to play another week (2 already) with 2 games per week. It would be setting a precedent that you can decide you don't want to play a game because it doesn't suit you.
I don't want 2 free points. I want to watch the game I travelled 200 miles to see. If it was snow or an actual water logged pitch then oh well, but it's not taking place caus Wigan have decided it isn't taking place. They haven't followed the rules.

No doubt because they told they were to be deducted points and fined for cheating again.

| So the world champions of rugby league bend over to help out in an unquantifiable way a lower league football side with fewer supporters?
If the game is played at Widnes, do they change their home fixture, or do you travel there twice? Gives Widnes an advantage that might help them come the top eight places, which might have a negative impact on my team. Why doesn't Lenagan put the wider interests of rugby league first over some football side no one watches?

Firstly, it isn't fair on Widnes, not at all. Neither would it be fair for other teams to set the precedent of awarding points under the circumstances of a postponed game. Hypothetically, would it be fair on (say) wakey if the 2 put Widnes in the super 8s and them in the middles? They'd then miss out on some good crowds which Widnes would enjoy instead.
I don't know what the answer is but for me it can't be awarding two unearned points. Docking points is different: that only affects the club that offends. Awarding them (potentially) affects others too.

| up and brewery spring to mind.
I'd be livid if I was a Widnes fan, 8 hours notice of a home game.
I'm livid already, at this stage of the season a home game will always be deemed more important for Latics than the Warriors, set a precedent here, Latics take priority even though they are'nt wold champions, aren't playing at the highest level and have fewer fans - Its a joke Lenegan, sort it out you muppet !
