Peet has done the right thing - he won’t have just binned him from a squad without warning, I suspect it won’t be the first offence whatever it is.

I think a bigger game for Wigan than saints in that Wigan have had one game built up as a acid test and were absolutely hopeless at Catalans.

This is the next big test. They need to compete.

Watched Peets interview on Wigan TV and he said Hardaker had dropped below standards last week and at the start of this week. Sounds like he had his chance and didn’t take it. There was a big hug and words between him and Peet at the end of the Wakey game, which looking back was probably something to do with whatever went on and was said last week.

There has to be standards and players need to be held accountable when they’re not met. It matters little who the player is or who we are playing.

Quite a simple way of looking at it.

Is there only one way for a group to learn a lesson, or only one way to punish someone? Give ZH a huge fine and tell the lads. Or tell him noe that we've got no interest in retaining him past this year. I'm sure that will be just as much of a deterrent and line in the sand. It also doesn't impact those players who haven't done anything wrong. It does however tell them that there's severe measures the club could take and ones that can impact their long term future with Wigan too.

Also doesn't hurt the fans.

I haven’t got a clue what Hardaker has done or maybe not done but fair play to Peet.
It sends out a message to all the squads within the club what the standards are. As long as this is deployed on a consistent basis personally, I feel I’ve got to back the coach.
It’s not a rash or a “brave” decision by Peet its just the right decision.
If players don’t respect those standards then they know where the door is.
Maybe this is what Hardaker should have got ten years or so ago. A good straightener never harmed anyone.

It sounds like Hardaker has let down his teammates, his coach and the fans. Let’s hope that he takes it on the chin and responds accordingly on Monday.
He will be a big loss on Friday. He’s been playing well on a consistent basis and his kicking has significantly improved this season. It makes a win on Friday even less likely but if that’s the price for getting us back to having pride in the club and one’s self then so be it.

One worry I had with Peet was can you make big calls like this as a young coach, with no top level playing career at the back of you. It’s a high profile player you’re dealing with and it would be easy to just ignore it and not tackle it. Well he’s taken the brave decision and it just makes sure people know you can’t take the mick.

All I'll say is that I'm glad I'm not a customer of some of the businesses people work for.

I've got a decent sized team under me and I'd never dream of letting team issues, impact on the service we deliver to clients. If my best team member was a bad egg, then I'd be having serious words and looking to replace them. I wouldn't however take him off my top client's account, especially if they had a mega important project. That would go down like a lead balloon and i doubt me saying "oh he's still here, I'm just teaching him a lesson and setting the culture. We've got a junior working on that important project your paying us."

That doesn't make me weak on culture, if you've got a bad apple then get rid of them. Don't let it impact the service you deliver.

Obviously different for fans and we seem to be treated like mugs by the people we pay our money too..

I think your right in that running French and Field at Hurrell all day is our best chance to get a result from this one. However I suspect we will not get enough chances to do it in this particular game with the numbers out, particularly in the three quarters. It feels a little like we've crossed a tipping point in losing so many from one particular area of the field. 5 or 6 spread out we could cope with. Less easy when 4 are from one area of the team. Disruption like we're getting from the Hardaker situation probably isn't helping either. I think we'll put up a show...at least I hope so...but I'd be surprised if we get the result. There's always hope in a Derby though so I'll be there with the usual pre match optimism!

I know you have decent information so I'll take that as correct. Seems a bit harsh for 2 indiscretions though. That said, maybe Peet is laying down a marker, in which case you have to admire his resolve. When all's said and done this is the biggest regular season game and one he'll be desperate to win.

I wouldn’t say it’s harsh. If true, Peet will have had a conversation with Hardaker after the first one and likely explained the consequences should it happen again. When it happened again he had no choice but to go through with it otherwise he’s loose respect. Basic management.

I just wish a few at my work would take a lead out of his book.
