Crap, no tries for us on the right side and we will still let at least 1 in there. Great move

Yeah I suppose I should have clarified my self.
Bailey playing right centre means that we shall not score any tries, as Bailey has an aversion to passing, making breaks or just moving fast in general. Also I would rate his defense as different to Gouldings, but not better. Anyone faster than the average second rower can run rings around him, and also doesnt help out other players very much and would require ordering around, whereas Gouldings positioning is just as poor (too far out as opposed to too far in usually IIRC), but is fast enough to recover, and also can (occasionally) finish off a move. Bailey is a poor player and has no future as you dont improve at his age - Goulding will.

Indeed. It would be easier to read this than some of Fredie's finest work.

| Love to see Dobson back at Wigan.
Tomkins at 6 and Dobson at 7. His kicking, passing, quick runs and organisation is just what we need.
He's still a young man but now has enough experience to lead, just as he is at KR.

Argeed, espeshially his kicking is needed. With Smith and Tommy our long kicking game has not been up to strach.
IMO Dobson's kicking game is better than Barrett's.

That is a bold statement but thinking about it, its true. I would take Dobson on a long term contract at Wigan, he is someone who will only get better, he is already a leader at 22, what will he be like when he is 28.

| Dobson is tied down at Hull KR though.
I agree we need someone of Dobson's caliber and I think Matt Orford would fit the bill well. He's got a great kicking game (not a bad goal kicker as well) he's a great organiser and passer of the ball. He's got plenty of experience and leadership which is something this team is lacking since the departure of Trent Barrett.
The combined youth and experience of Sam Tomkins and Matt Orford could be something really special with Thomas Leuluai moving to hooker.

Eventhough he's off contract its more than likely he'll get a new one
They would be stupid to let him go, presuming he still wants to play for them of course

He's a class act and a leader.
A partnership of him and Sam Tomkins would be a dream combo.

Which is one of the reasons we should sign him. Currently we must have one of the youngest squads in super league. I think only Andy Coley is over 30 (and he's no leader) and there's only really Phil Bailey and Stuart Fielden to mention with any experience.
I think at the moment we have a great amount of youth in the squad but we need some experience and leadership to compliment the young lads and give us the right balance of youth and experience.

Well that didnt work because the defence down the right was as bad as it has been all season.
I really dont understand the Bailey is solid in defence myth that some like to push on here. He maybe is as long as you run straight at him but he barely lays a hand on player if they run at the side of him or put a step on him. He is far too slow at centre and even at second row he is often far too slow when sliding across. He is a complete waste of a quota spot.

Congratulations on the 20/20 hindsight. Funny, I didn't see your ideas for improving things before the game. If you want some credibility on here pal best not to wait and see what happens and then stick your head over the parapet.
We have a problem in right side defence that is purely down to Tim Smith. Bailey was an option exercised to try to mitigate that. The fact is, whoever defends next to Smith is looking bad but if my life depended on it I would rather have Bailey making a tackle than Goulding.

Because I hadnt joined by then It doesnt mean that I cant comment on what other people have said, especially since many said it would make no difference, which it didnt. You are right though, whoever defends next to Smith doesnt stand a chance.

In that case welcome aboard (unless you are an old poster with a new ID!)
You've posted similar about Smith on another thread and I agree with you. He is simply too much of a risk in defence and has to be dropped. Try Sam for the full 80. If it fails, reshuffle with Lockers - or anybody - at 6. It can't be worse than Smith.
TBH I'm not impressed with Riddell or Roberts either. They're lucky that Smith is so shockingly bad or they would be under more scrutiny.
I'm praying Sam is able to play week , week out because we could drop Smith, Riddell and Roberts and play Sam, McIllorum and Pryce. I feel the fewer imports we have the better the unity of the squad.

| I actually think that Roberts was much improved last week and covered well at times in defence. At least with him I can see some potential with his speed and on occasions such as the try he set up last week and his interception on Saturday.
Riddell I have not been impressed with either, Smith I have said my piece.
One other thing I will say about these two those is I think it is a disgrace that Noble and the conditioning staff can allow 2 players to be so unfit. If they werent prepared to come to pre-season training early, particularly in the case of Smith as he was so far behind the others anyway, then they shouldnt have been signed. Everyone could also see that Riddell wasnt the fittest. I agree as well with the home grown versus the imports, Smith, Bailey and Phelps could go now as far as I am concerned. They are no better than the English players that we have. Riddell should get better as he gets fitter and we dont really have that many options with a starting hooker.
