| Quote ="razzledazzle"Just a thought but in attack if the fullback can drift into different parts of the attacking line then couldn't we play Richards way out wide for when we want to spread the ball or put up a high kick? That way he could still pose a threat down the wing even though he is technically playing fullback? Or is that not possible?'"
of course its possible and from set plays near the line he could float out wide for the high kicks, but from broken play the full back tends to support the halves particularly down the middle. with the ball going wide richards would have a huge amount of ground to make up to link in out wide as and when he pleases. there has to be a certain amount of structure to out sets. and with a winger, centre alrady in position, too many cooks and all that. with amos and pat in position on wing and phelps at fullback, the threat comes from all over the field, through the middle on the wing. richards periodically chiming in is hardly the same. the majority of play is structured sets that create opportunity, Richards cannot position himself on the wing out of position throughout these sets and the only time i see this happening is when we are looking at kicks to the corner in the oppositions 10, which is why i believe we are losing throughout the 80 minute period.

hhhmmm i'm really worried about our ability to score tries against hudds then. Richards would be my first choice fullback from that squad, but is there anyone else who could play that position?

absolutely not, there is no one else. Richards is the only player that can offer stability at that position. we just lose so much out wide without him. fingers crossed though, hudds are missing players too

| Just watched the Eels v Dogs on Sky 433 and noticed the Dogs centre (No 4) Jamal Idris - this is the kind of player Pryce could be. Pryce is slightly bigger and heavier yet the Aussies are calling Idris the biggest back in league. All Pryce needs is the same aggression and committment and he could be a world beater....

| Quote Ainscough he appears to have gone backwards if anything and that is a great shame. IMO there is a case for arguing that MM hasn't given him much of an opportunity (when compared to Goulding, for example) '"
No he's been messed about too much! He's not had chance to bond with any team. First Widnes but training with Wigan, then shipped off to Castleford, but still training part-time with Wigan. Then expected to play in a Wigan game (subjected to enormous pressure to perform well when he had Bailey at the side of him completely out of position most of the match. Don't think any of the wingers from any team could have coped with that!). Then back to Widnes and training with Wigan again this week.
He's been messed about more than any other player. At least the loan deals Mossop etc had last year meant they were with that team and had the opportunity to train and commit to that team whilst they were there.
No wonder the lads wondering what he's doing, he must be like superman and have to run in a phone box and press a button to change the colour of kit quick!
Let's remember he's still only 20 and all he needs to do is keep his head down, carry on accepting where Wigan send him like he has done. Train hard, keep his fitness up, and most of all not loose his confidence despite all the crap that's said about him, and hopefully it will all come good for him in the end.
Keep your head up Shaun and and good luck to you whichever team you play for!

| Gleeson's still very doubtful for the game - would that mean that Bailey will go to centre again or will Marsh get a run?

Bailey cannot go into the centre so i agree unless they drop Joel in there.

| If Gleeson is out then i'd play Marsh tbh.
It'd be nice to see him get a game and we should back these lads to preform. He's a natural centre and Bailey(or Joel) isn't so it seems the most sensible thing to do.

I think he needs to lose some bulk. He's really hindering his flexibility.
As for him having to be superman, I disagree. He kept having to be told where to be by Bailey against Quins. He was standing out on the touchline for most of the game - he might as well have been playing a different game.
He does have time on his side, but now is when he should be making advancements in his game. At the moment he's treading water.

I was referring to the amount of times he's had to do a quick change in the colour of his shirt!

| Enough of the arguing about what has or hasn't affected Ainscough this year. We don't want another thread descending into personal arguments.
The lad has obvious strengths and obvious deficiencies in his game and has an opportunity at Widnes to improve those aspects that need improvement at a still testing but less intense level. If he does improve them then great and he will be better for it. If he fails to do so by the end of his current contract then a difficult decision will have to be made.

Yep, looks like Bailey wont be at centre again though, Pryce and Marsh are a centre/wing partnership in the reserves arent they? Could work out well.
