I agree the club cant let it slide while he rests under the palm trees on some sunny isle,hes had more than enough time and to me doesn't want to come a deadline has to be set and the sooner the better for the club, players and its long suffering fans.

How any Wigan fan can stand by and champion IL after this is beyond me. Supposed top businessman parades Edwards around the pitch and hypes up across all media platforms that Edwards will be our coach in 2020 without a signed contract?! Then in over 9 months fail to produce a contract for Edwards?

Are we now also meant to forget the whole Bateman debacle were IL told us he's coming back after 2-3 seasons as our marquee? Which later Bateman dismissed as false.

If the joint statement had said that both sides were sorry for any misunderstanding, but that now the 6-Nations is over Shaun will come and sign a contract within the next fortnight, then fine. Leave it at that.

To say that basically we HOPE that he will still want to come, but given that Wales won the 6N, his stock has gone up and we are leaving him free to explore other possibilities and won't stand in his way if something batter comes along ?????

We should NEVER be, and most certainly should never ACCEPT being someone's fallback if nothing better comes along.

It should be a case of - Come and sign the 3 year contract, as discussed, within 2 weeks or F-Off.

If he is not committed already, to the point of simply signing whatever is put in front of him (provided it matches what was previously offered), then we should withdraw the offer and walk away.

The trouble with Wigan we are a one man band with IL as the sole owner we desperately need to co-opt more people on the board or put the shares out to the public with 51% majority and let the shareholders have their say on how the club is run .KR is an ex player and not a business man and should not be in this position of running the club.IL has put his trust in KR to run the club for him IMHO he is doing it badly.

I agree with all that Pie-eyed said except the last sentence. Edwards doesn't need Wigan or RL, to get himself a better deal. But spinning this out saying you want more time to think? After all this time? That's just taking the pee.

I agree that he doesn't need us, but it's much easier to force someone's hand if you can use an existing - and VERY public -offer to get more money and set your own deadline.

And as consumers, we were misled in the 2019 Season Ticket sales pitch, where pictures of Lam & Edwards were used in the club's marketing campaign.

IL had form for claiming contracts had been signed when they hadn't (Bateman), yet allowed himself to "slip up" again with the claim that Edwards had signed a three year deal. Millionaire businessmen don't make that kind of mistake once, let alone twice. I no longer have any trust in whatever comes out of his mouth.

But at least we would have been due some sort of compensation, and been made to look like the good guys, instead of a bunch of lying amateurs.

I couldn't imagine anybody disrespecting my club this badly never mind doing it to Wigan. As fan of another club I have to accept Wigan are by far the biggest name in English RL and surely cant let someone disrespect your club this badly.

IL should have publicly stated that he thought Edward's word was his bond and that its proved not to be and then said Edward's wasnt wanted as his commitment is so poor and the club is bigger than any one man. Ask fans of Salford, Wakefield or Widnes what it means to be long suffering. We've had a bad start to the year and we don't know who our coach will be next year (which is a long time off). We are definitely not long suffering fans!

Pretty poor analogy since nobody bought a season ticket expecting Edwards to be coaching in 2019. Wigan promised Lam for 2019 and we got Lam for 2019. The club has lied but if you bought a season ticket in 2019 because Edwards was coming in 2020 then that's more fool you in my opinion.

The Bateman/Mossop and Tomkins brothers incidents were totally out of the clubs control and dealt with pretty well IMO but there’s been too much he could’ve controlled that has gone badly wrong recently. There just doesn’t seem much focus on the club from Lenagan anymore, no buzz around the place and he looks fed up with trying to think of ways to stop the club making losses and instead of speculating to try and accumulate, has decided to just cut costs to try and stop the bleeding.

I think Lenagan has to start being honest with people and make his intentions and ambitions known. I know the old fans forums used to get rail roaded by the odd nutter asking about people’s breakfasts of choice but I think they’d be so useful now, even if it was just to make the fans feel a bit more valued. The trust between the club and the support is being flushed down the pan recently.

The incidents should never have happened. Pretty sure one of them was lied about, one covered up and one dealt with pretty well.

This really is quite an odd situation.

Now I am going to assume we can be classed as a successful team since 2010 onwards within Super League and I am going to make a complete assumption that IL has seen that success on the field does not indicate any real increase in profit, in fact, quite the opposite. The club on the whole in the last three years has scaled down in nearly every department. I for one am of the opinion Wigan Warriors is never going to be a budget club, I am sure IL must realise that. It is clear that without a much better TV deal for the sport (and all the hoohaa that comes with it) there is not a chance the club will turn a profit or even become self sustaining. Correct me if I am wrong, but does any club in Super League break even or turn a profit?

I know Castleford have rightly established themselves as a very consistent and more impressively entertaining team and I am positively sure there playing salary total is far less than ours at present and without the need for any marquee players, they are very well run indeed and maybe IL has his eyes on that style of set-up here at Wigan? It would explain why little was done to retain high earners like Tomkins, Bateman and if rumours are true, George Williams. No doubt SO'L and TL will be allowed to retire without any hesitation and adding players like Sammut, Hankinson and Bullock whilst retaining Powell and Isa is also a clear indication of the attempt to balance out the squad with a talent to pay ratio.

When I announced on this forum that the club had agreed terms with Joe Greenwood I was scolded (understatement!) by the person that told me, however, he no longer works for the club and at the same time I was informed he told me that Waney had wanted Liam Watts (released by Hull) and Kenny Edwards (available for a fee) signed with immediate effect and was denied and whatever reason he was given (no one, and I mean no one knows other than the people in the board room) was the reason he handed his notice in. The club went on to sign Hankinson mid-season (for a fee!) and agree terms with Zak and Joe Bullock.

The only thing IL did wrong was to say 'signed 'rather than 'agreed'. Why would he intentionally mislead anyone on this point. He had an agreement with someone he's known for years. They both agreed to announce it.

If IL had kept everyone in the dark until after the 6 nations when they were due to finalise the contract, everyone would have been up in arms wondering what's going on and blaming IL for having no plan or not communicating with the fans.

SE has been very disengenious saying he hasn't got a contract and will be unemployed after the world Cup. Hes the one who should be getting the flak.

The club would have had a legally binding contract which would have curtailed Edwards ability to flutter his eyes in other directions. It would also mean we would be due some sort of compensation that at the moment we aren't. It would have seriously restricted the omnishamble that is currently happening.

Perfectly summed up. The fact the contract wasn’t signed is not the club’s doing. In hindsight the wording of the press release is the only thing that wasn’t right but free club had no reason to believe SE would go back on the agreed terms.
