| Hello all, not sure where to post but this seemed as good as anywhere!
Just read the talk in AUS is that your trying to get Willie Tonga, not sure if its Hock transfer fee or totally separate.

| Quote ="Finfin"I've always been a big Hock fan, but thinking about him and winning games, I am struggling to remember any where he has actually come up with something which has made a major difference in a tight game, which forwards like Graham, Lockers, Sinfield, Peacock, Westwood (even the likes of Feka) etc could reel off. Cameos within games he certainly has in his cv.
Would love to be proven wrong.'"
I agree totally with you on this one Finfin,i too have always marveled at the genius of Hock's play although the majority of these were in walk overs when we were the totally dominant side,i haven't seen too many of these performances when we were in the trenches so to speak,a classic example is this seasons GF semi against Leeds where he was almost anonymous
Gareth is a luxury player who can rip sides to bits when it suits but i would swap him anytime for Gareth Ellis

So that puts paid to the rumour of a bust up with Wane because Hock's squad number had been given to Farrell then I assume?

Seems odd that he's been given Hock's number.

| What numbers Hock got?
Maybe the club thought he was nailed on to leave. I wonder who's got the 4 shirt also!

Surely it isnt that hard to just swap numbers late in the day, very odd as Pemps said

| Odd to change his shirt number. Maybe he's planning on using Hock for impact? Definitely think he needs to be rotated more. Did way too many 80 minutes last season imo.

It seems that Parramatta are having major problems in their efforts to sign Israel Folau,it seems that the NRL are objecting in a big way to how Parramatta finance his contract.
This is throwing all plans to keep under the cap into chaos.
Below is a small piece of an article in Thursdays Sydney Morning Herald,it seems that the Hock negotiations are over.
"The delays in finalising Folau's deal have already had repercussions. The club has all but given up on luring English forward Gareth Hock to the Eels, while they wade through the Folau fine print.
Manly this week announced the signatures of Eels players Justin Horo and Esi Tonga, as the Eels attempt to free up salary cap space. More could follow if the Eels are unable to reach a suitable arrangement with the NRL. Willie Tonga, a former teammate of Folau's, has been mentioned as a player who might make way for his fellow Queenslander".

| It's still bittersweet. He's only staying because they can't sort out a contract for him, not because he wants to.

From the rumours going around its more likely he wants to stay but the club wants him gone but are not going to let him go on the cheap.

In the old days there would have been the option to put him on the "Transfer List", which I can only assume no longer exists under the contract system. I suppose the Club could still notify the other SL Clubs and those in the NRL that they would be prepared to listen to offers (there are rumours that his agent is making those sorts of approaches anyway, but like everything associated with Mr Hock's likely whereabouts for 2013 they are only rumours!).

Hockwould be immense as an impact player in much the same ilk as Ali Lautiti was for Leeds.

Makes sense to me. Let Hansen & Faz wear teams down, then bring on the wrecking ball. While Hock is capable of playing full games and being effective throughout, I think good rotation would potentially get more from him.

As long as they don't try to put him in the front row,and to bulk up, as some clowns suggested when he was coming back from his long layoff.
Hocks danger is his speedy footwork, breaking tackles and offloads. There should be someone on his shoulder throughout. Sean Edwards would have been.

Definitely agreed! A big guy that's THAT mobile is wasted at prop. Hopefully Green likes his support play, we could do with it.

Not his strongest suit from what I've seen. 2 tries from 9 last season.

Bit selective there. 13 from 30 overall at HKR.

Better than Brett Finch's 18 tries in his 60 games for Wigan.

| My Dad used to work part time at CP, and spoke with legend Brian McTigue, who was his hero.
Apparently, 'Mac' used to say to the backs, "just follow me, you will get some trys" !
What an understatement !
Hock could do this. Nowhere near as a ballplayer or enforcer like Mac.
AFAIK, 'Mac' never got sent off.
Got quite a few 'carried off', but never got sent off.
As an ex-boxer, his fist never travelled more than 6 inches.

In a season practically written off with a freak injury! I am confident in a team like Wigan with the quality of players he'll have around him Green will be a revelation, his support play is excellent, added to which he has a fair bit of pace. Really sorry to see him leave Rovers, but wish him and Taylor all the best for the future, and hope they pick up a bit of silverware in the coming seasons.

Sadly the views of people who've actually seen him play regularly seem to mean very little for some! It's way easier to just say "We used to sign Trent Barrett!" and declare rugby league in this country is dying
