The replay showed Hodgson's hands releasing the ball forwards. That's why it was so clear cut.

It really isn't! If we set up properly everytime the ball reaches the 2nd receiver there's then an option for the short ball to Hock/Hansen or out the back to Sam, who can then go himself or pass to Goulding/Carmont. If it was so predictable we wouldn't have scored so many points this season. Yesterday wasn't about us being too predictable, it was about us not getting in to positions to put our plays on, and the few opportunities we did the passes weren't sticking.

| It doesn't matter if we had a plan A, B, C or D yesterday, if you continually drop the ball, give away penalties and miss tackles you will get beat when you play a Wire or a Leeds.
We need to go back to basics for these next 6 games and make sure we cut out the silly errors and we will have a great chance of being crowned Champions at OT

Where is this so called “momentum rule” is it in the rule book? Don’t listen to that Dewsbury dew-drop Stevo; he sees things no one else does. He also says things like, a kicked ball can dissect the winger and fullback; DISSECTED, does he mean BISECTED? I thought when you dissected something you cut something up, like a dead body. If he’s right there must have been a lot more blood than usual on the pitch. He said a player couldn’t forward pass to himself! Well if that’s true they must have been playing gridiron.

| The momentum rule may apply if a pass is less than a yard forward, but Hodgson's pass was at least 3/4 yards forward - the 20 metre line shows this. Hodgson was well behind the line when he passed and Monaghan was a few yards (at least!) in front of the line when he caught the ball.

I suggest you study the law of physics. The only way a pass can truly go backwards is when standing still. The ball will travel on the same trajectory as that of the passer.

Yes. Watch the game and look at the pass. Alternatively, read the match report on the BBC website.

Here it is (albeit that the game is goverened by laws, not rules)
www.therfl.co.uk/a_guide_to_the_ ... rward_pass
=#FF0040Direction of Pass 1. The direction of a pass is relative to the player making it and not to the actual path relative to the ground. A player running towards his opponents’ goal line may throw the ball towards a colleague who is behind him but because of the thrower’s own momentum the ball travels forward relative to the ground. This is not a forward pass as the thrower has not
passed the ball forward in relation to himself. This is particularly noticeable when a running player makes a high, lobbed pass.
It doesn't matter if the ball travels forward. It matters if it was passed forward. You might not like it, it may fry your brain, but it's a fact. Now, chances are, if the ball travels forwards the ball was passed forward but it's not a pre-requisite.

I agree, it was a forward pass. It was passed forward and it travelled forward.
My post was helping pies-r-us to understand the laws of the game. He did ask to be fair.

| I don't see how anyone can blame the ref yesterday. Clutching at straws. Wigan were out played and beaten in every single department. Blaming the ref is quite frankly embarrassing. The score and the responsibility of the performance lies with the team and the coach. In all fairness I think the scoreline flattered Wigan.
And yes I do feel the attack has become predictable, why do you think Sam was kept so quiet? It's almost null Sam, null Wigan.

Some comments seemed more focused on forward passes etc... but yes I know you're not. my comment wasn't aimed at you.

I don't think anybody is claiming it did effect the result, but forward passes have been an issue throughout the season. This was a shocker, but i for one have come to expect them. But i suppose thats the nature of sport.

| To sum it up we bottled it. That's why we were making mistakes. As the game had got to us. Similar to Leeds in the CC semi and arguably the playoff game with Saints last season.

| My Plan B would be to tell Wane to shut the hell up and stop piling so much pressure on the players throughout the season.
i think we looked below par fitness wise even before we take into account the amount of defence we had to put in. for me when it comes to the really big games that we regards as "must win", whether in knockout rugby or in the league, we just dont have the bottle and desire to go through and execute because Wane treats every game like a final.
the season, both physically and mentally is now catching up on us and is definitely taking its toll. it has shown ever since the Leeds CC Semi Final, if not before. also, why keep jack on the bench until the 70th minute?? its like Madge all over again!
i do think we will finish top but unless we can get some inspiration from a returning (AND FIT!) richards and tommy then i'd bank on another loss to saints or catalans in the playoffs as per usual.

From the RFL, pretty clear to me.
[iDirection of Pass 1. The direction of a pass is relative to the player making it and not to the actual path relative to the ground. A player running towards his opponents’ goal line may throw the ball towards a colleague who is behind him but because of the thrower’s own momentum the ball travels forward relative to the ground.
