I would agree if Catalans We're the same team of years ago but they are now very competitive and with a genuine shout of winning things. I agree nowhere as big as Wigan but it is likely to come down to money at the end of the day. We need to offer more that what Catalan will pay.

| I'd literally be devastated if we signed Sammut. He's a lesser version of Dennis Moran and is exactly the sort of player UK clubs should be steering clear of i.e second raters.
Sign Brough, Dureau, Soward etc and I have no problem with Mellor and Powell biding their time for a shot but sign Sammut and they may as well walk out. Those 2 lads will get chances even if we sign a quality half but sign a no hoper like Sammut to play infront of them and that'd be a total kick in the teeth for them.

I understand they're better but for me still Wigan is a much bigger lure to a professional rugby player. If we matched or upped his money slightly he should wanna come to be honest. He's a young bloke who I don't think has children so that won't affect things

| The ideal for me is to keep Finch and then recruit from within maybe with the option of moving Sam back to 6 if the others need more time. We have to develop a team that is based around a settled half back pairing. During Wigan's success of the 80's, 90's we had the Edwards/Gregory era. Saints has success built around Long. Bradford had the Paul brothers then Leeds had Mcguire and Burrows. If we have to go with another non-local lad then I wouldn't object to Dureau given that he is young and could be with the club for a few years. I am not keen on another two year quick fix from Australia no matter how good they are.

| Get Finchy to stay, first and foremost. To paraphrase Stevo, he's been controlling things out there for us all season and really is key to making us tick in attack. Signing him for at least another year really is vital. Once that's sorted, which it hopefully will be soon, then we can look at who his half-back partner will be. Personally I would love to get Scott Dureau
Speaking of poaching from Catalans, Daryl Millard to replace Carmont anyone? That is assuming Bilko's One More year campaign fails

| Mellor isnt good enough, he hasnt looked good enough in any spell at Widnes, and certainly hasnt looked good enough for Wigan.
Harsh, but he needs to be moved on, not every youngster we produce is going to be good enough for us, Mellor is an example of that.

Completely unfair IMO. I can count on my fingers the number of games for us and Widnes in the first team

| Mellor looks like a Richie Myler clone from the little I've seen of him. Good support player but little in the way of creativity. Like I say though I haven't seen too much of him so I await being proven wrong by the lad

The injury that forced him to miss virtually all the 2010 season was a massive setback for him, and has probably left him a couple of years behind in his development, but I still see him as our future #7. He was the outstanding half back in the 2009 Reserves competition, completely outplaying the likes of Lomax, Wheeler & Gaskell, and I don't think it will take him much longer to rediscover that ability.

I wouldn't want Welham anywhere near the Wigan team from what I've seen of him, IMO he must be one of the most overrated players in the comp plus I think HKR have him tied down for a few more years.

| How about Brett Hodgson for a year?
I still think he's out of contract and it's gone quiet on renewals for a few players over at Wire.
With Richards and Hodgson, we would be sorted for kicking goals. Hodgson's field kicking would also improve us as a team.
Tomkins could move back to the halves and Mellor and Powell could also get more game time as, admittedly, Hodgson will miss some games due to age and recent injuries.
At the end of next season, Mellor and Powell will have had enough time to show if they're the long-term future.
I also reckon Hodgson could fill in easily as a stand-off... he seems to make a fair number of Wire's tries.
I also think he'd be a good influence on improving our younger backs.

Disagree with this completely. I think he's massively overrated and it would be a massive step down to replace Welham with Carmont, not to mention they play on opposite sides.

| I prefer kirk Yeamon to Wellham. He'd be a decent signing. Very strong and his defence is good. I'd leave Sam at FB and spend on a scrum half. Soward or Dureau and if not one of those I think Dobson is a fair shout!

| Going forward Welham is fairly impressive.
In defence he is shocking, would rather we stick with what we have than bring a player like him in for the sake of it.
