Not when TL was kicking. His long range kicking was poor.
As to Phelps, pleasantly surprised but for some reason with him I always think there is an error waiting to be made.

Overall though a decent showing full of passion but not quite good enough.........................very similar to the team infact.'"

And in fact, due to the momentum rule, wasn't even forward. Look where Phelps is when Ainscough takes the ball.

| Think some people lile to criticise just to be controversial.
Phelps had a great game last night - couple of significant errors yes but its his first game back in weeks and attacking-wise he was on fire.
Had Richards made those errors but attacked like Phelps people would have hailed him as MOM.
Phelps the utility back is working out just how the club need it to.

| He had pretty decent game last night.
However Saints did not manage to test him defensively at all during the game, so it may be a tad early to say if he will be a safe bet at fullback.

To be fair that's how a full back's game should be... if your fullback is constantly being tested, the guys up font aren't earning their corn are they.

| Did alright, little rusty with some mistakes.
He's a jack of all trades, master of none. He does what it says on the tin.
Better option than Mathers and can play anywhere across the backline, that's how I justify his squad position.

Exactly. Some people cant see past their obsession to criticise and miss the value of a player like Phelps because of the mass love for Richards.

Exactly.
It was typified by the mass hysteria amongst the usual sheep-like posters on here yesterday afternoon when the news broke of Phelps' return.
He's played poor at centre this season, his positioning in defence really letting him down. This doesn't mean his defence in general is poor, which a lot assumed straight away.
All in all, bar a couple of errors, he added more in terms of attacking full back play than Richards does.

I wonder if Mathers watched the game last night and wondered why we did not do the same for him

| In his last game for Canterbury Phelps played full-back and he was absoloutly superb.
Given all the problems we have had with Mathers why is it only now we have given Phelps a game at full back?
Personally I think he played very well and he could be giving Noble some selection headaches. I would like to see him get some more gametime at fullback. Nothing against Pat but his best position is wing. He doesnt come into the line well enough in attack for me to play FB.
Obviously you cannot drop Ainscough at the moment and I thought Famous Amos had his best game in a Wigan shirt in the derby so you cannot drop him either

Richards is injured anyway so all three will probably be in the team on Monday

Which is just as well for Saints because half their trys would be chalked off.
Thought Phelps had a good game last night bar one or two errors.

| Agree with all that Phelps had a good game with a couple of notable errors.
Noble was bigging him up at the press conf and with him getting the coaches MOM then, with Richards out, it looks like he'll be in the 17 for some time.
Noble will leave Roberts as wingman to Gleeson to allow them to play together.
As for Monday, Phelps will be in there but who'll go to 4 instead of Carmont I'm not sure. Pryce is an obvious one but I'm not sure he's that fit.

| Pryce should be in the team if Carmont is out then bring Tomkins in if Hock is out (allegedly).

| Phelps showed skills we never knew he had. You can see now why the Bulldogs fans said hes a better 6 than centre. Put in some good kicks and great passes. The pass for Ainscoughs second was a cracker. Yes it was going forward but that was due to Phelps quick forward momentum when he passed it and he showed great knowledge to carry on running forward and end up in front of Ainscough as he recieved it. Had he stopped after passing im sure the ref would of given a forward pass. The only problem i see with him is he looks shaky under the high ball and im not overly confident in him error wise. You can now see though how valuable he is as a squad player being able to cover so many positions and do a decent job.

| Cameron Phelps clearly has talent as a footballer, and I think it's blatantly obvious that he's a Fullback or Stand-Off, and never a centre or a winger in a million years.
He looked so much happier at fullback, and yes he'd need some defensive work to make the position his own, but you'd think he'd be able to pick up some tips from Kris
