French is the best I've seen having watched Wigan since 01. It's like playing a game on 'easy' mode watching him go round Super League players.

I’d have Henry Paul in there somewhere, Jason Robinson is the best I’ve ever seen though.

Probably the best I've seen was Chris Hesketh. I know, "Bloody old bugger"



He could step of either foot, and Wigan let him go to Salford!!!

Henry Paul was the first who came to my mind. His step was hard to read and he also confused defenders when he’d throw that full spin in. I loved watching him play, even the warm ups with him and Inga throwing 30 yard one handed Passes to each other were great.

His second try reminded me of a try Hanley scored at Wembley.

Yeah the one against St Helens in the 27-0 rout.

Immediately came to mind when I saw it although Bevan 'only' had to beat two Salford players Hanley went through five Saints players at Wembley. Both class tries.

I think Wellens still complained about the try to the ref

He was the only fullback to never have conceded a legitimate try

I am sure I saw Wellens lift off the ground by about 8 inches due to to the down draft from his flailing arms and shouting in a whining voice SIR SIR SIR SIR but SIR aw SIR come on SIR .

Getting rounded by David Vaealiki was a particular highlight.

Best stepper, Steve Alker when it's his turn to go to the bar.

Best sidestep ? Has to be John Ferguson . Fergusons main asset was his 'speed off the mark' and that sidestep. Whilst he was no slouch, he wasn't a real 'speedster' , for example that famous try he scored when Brett Kenny was running alongside him urging him on to score, which he did.

Ray French described John Ferguson as "being able to sidestep on a tanner" .

Sam Tompkins for me. Best player I've seen in my generation of watching RL. Still top notch now.
Would he have been worth more yo the side on marquee money than George Burgess?

Maybe unfair (I haven't watched as much non-Saints SL this year as I have in the past for various reasons) but French looks to be a player who can look untouchable when you are in flat-track bully mode running in tries but not sure how effective he is otherwise.

Looking forward to seeing him tonight in the derby - first UK game I've actually looked forward to watching in what feels like months.
