A drop goal that doesn't deserve to be lost amoungst that shambles of a display. I said I'd be happy if we rested Tomkins and Lockers every week bar the cup games and play off games before tonight even if we lost every one and I'll have to stick to that because bar those 2 its ordinary.

Thankfully they'll be back when it matters.

Why you need to rest anyone for the London game is beyond me

I was at Maine Road when Joe Lydon dropped that goal. But IMHO Pats tonight was better and deliberate. And off the touchline. Joes kick was further infield.

I think there's a vid of Joe Lydon talking about that kick, and he basically said IIRC, that he was surprised it dropped over.

My old dad said that tonight. He said we should be able to beat London with the A team.

That didn't spur Saints on. It was the endless knock ons and soft penalties that did that.

Piece of outrageous skill that came too early in the game. Don't think you handled the game well after that point. It seemed to give you a different mentality.

Had to applaud it, the skill and sheer audacity to attempt it was enough but when it flew over, well that was something else.

Yes a great drop goal but perhaps older Wigan fans remember playing Hull KR in the eighties when Andy Kelly, who was not known for his kicking, dropped a goal from a similar position. I can't quite remember but that drop either drew or won the match, I do however remember that the Wigan players looked in a state of shock at the end of the final whistle.

Said the same about the Faz one.

What was the distance it was around the 30 or 40 meter mark but it was on the angle so it must have be around 60 meters it traveled.

I think it’s a great skill only some of us have. Getting the time just right must be built in; it’s like patting your head and rubbing your belly at the same time. Over the years I’ve tried to get the drop goal timing right, no chance. Pat's was just superb, on the tele it looked plumb centre too.

The Maine road match was a massive semi final and Lydons was further and better -- end of. The Warrington game was intense and we scrapped through by the skin of our teeth, this game was shocking and forgettable

Dosn't detract from the skill involved in executing the DG.

At last we have found someone that can do something that very few are capable of doing, being able to pat ones head at the same time as rubbing ones belly.

Quality kick I think from the angle he kicked it from made all the more impressive. But Richards has always been a decent kicker for you. Who will take on kicking duties when he goes?
