| Quote ="cadoo"Believe me it was. I got bagged a couple of times on here for it. It sounds like I'm points scoring, but I genuinely could not believe what some posters ('intelligent' posters too) were saying.
If that was the argument the irony is that Sam is more involved from fullback. I'll not turn this into that kind of debate though.
He's a freak. Outstanding talent. The best I've seen come through our academy in a decade. The English Darren Lockyer. I hope he goes to the NRL when his contract has run out. He's too good for Super League. No-one can lay a finger on him.
Josh Charnley is a special player too.'"
He can stay here for me.
Class at FB. I said it when he first played there at Widnes. He ran riot.
Charnley is a sensational winger.

| Come on guys! Tomkins is a class player and imo probably the best in SL at the moment but has a long way to go to become one of the world legends of the game! That can only be achieved by consistantly playing as he is at the moment against the best players in the world eg the Aussies and Kiwis.

On the other side of the coin we had someone like Schofield who was successful in a dozen or so international matches (although we won nothing of note), yet was pretty poor for much of his domestic career.....and yet, he is looked fondly upon (in Yorkshire anyway) as an eighties legend.

| We all know exactly whats going to happen now with Sam, we'll play the Aussies in the 4 nations, he wont score a hat trick and set up 9 tries and these boards will be swarming with "see, he's crap, cant do it at international level, he's one dimensional, overrated" blah blah blah, in fact, bookmark this.

Correct. Anything less than Sam single handedly DESTROYING Australia and New Zealand will result in him being increasingly barracked by the moronic minority and the trolls running wild on here. Personally, I think he's in a no win situation. At international level the biggest disadvantage Sam has that he doesn't have at club level is the coach.

Schofield was a great player who proved he was world class over a long period of time, I also think he played in a time when we had quite a lot of world class players playing over here so it was easier to see if players were actually that good but now there is only a few and we are streets behind the Aussies as opposed to the 80s/90s where most of the time we gave them a run for their money with the odd win. Its sad but when it comes to the National game he might not be as good as people think.

| Sam's got an even bigger challenge than the Aussies, according to Eddie. If you listen to the commentary around the 63 minute mark he reveals that Sam is favourite for the Grand National, if he gets there.
Now there's no bigger fan of Sam than me, but I think even he may struggle to get over Becher's Brook and the Chair faster than 40 horses....

| Sam was yet again superb last night and it is frightening to think how good this lad could be. It's only his 1st full season playing at FB and only his 2nd full season in SL and he looks nailed on to be Man of Steel with performances like tonight.
I suppose its too much to ask at this moment in time and it mainly comes down to jealously, but it seems very hard for opposition fans to realise how good this player really is. We watch him week in week out, he is far from one dimensional, despite his size and what opposition fans believe to be true he is very good defensively and also improving dramatically in the air. Only need to look at the Saints Cup Semi game for evidence of that. Trust us when we say he is one hell of a player!
I have no doubt he will become one of the all time great Wigan players and fans of Super League will be able to just sit back and enjoy what this player can produce over the next ten years.

Actually your post says more about the standard of our international set up rather than Sam's own ability. Like I said above, unless he destroys the Aussies on his own you're going to think he's not as good as we think he is despite the fact he'll be playing under an inadequate coach, against a team that will be better than us in most areas.

You are joking right Schoey had eletric pace, in the GB camp they said over the first 30 he was as quick as offiah.
Re tomkin awesome talent and the stand out form player in SL, but there are a good few kids in Oz just as good! The warriors have just unveiled their new star who will be the kiwi 7 this year! Shaun Johnson! He scored a try against the broncs that was sublime! If tomkin had scored it the sky team and you pies would have shot your bolt on mass!
Tomkin is awesome no doubt. He needs to fulfill his potential and it's impossible to do that in SL

I'm pretty sure Sam once said in an interview he'd never play union because he finds it boring and would see less of the ball. Only way we'll lose Sam IMO is if he goes to NRL but he gets homesick just going on tour .

best attacking runner no doubt! To dismiss defence, go forward and the ability to control/run a game is very one dimensional opinion! Tomkin is awesome but has a long way to go.
The fact he is the standout talent in SL for sure and is pretty much an opportunistic broken runner, with a magic step, an ok kicking game and a passing game that needs plenty of work says much more about SL as a comp really. I think tomkin would go great in the NRL but that's where he needs to go to go through the gears! Widdop is a much more complete player than tomkin already.

You forgot to mention he's rubbish in defence?
And he is playing at FB, so his kicking game is limited at the moment. When he does come in to kick he does a very good job. I would say his kicking game is more than ok.
But what do I know? Your a Leeds fan and see much more of him...
