How much are we talking for a beer in montpellier??

Taken from a travel forum....

a small beer costs between 2.50 - 4 euros in a bar, although you can buy a bottle of wine in the shops for about 3 euros

eating a simple meal out (nothing fancy) will cost around 12 euros for a main course

a baguette costs about 1 euro

I assume it will be much like going to any UK city - £3+ a pint/half litre glass.

Or, go to a supermarket up the road and get some cans and pay around 1e each.

Quite a few pubs in London now charge £5.

Not the ones i go in when i go down there- wont pay more than 4 quid for a pint! Rip off!

Anybody got any idea how relaxed the French police are in allowing you to drink cans in the street outside prior to the game? Never been to Perpignan, what was it like there?

no problems as long as you are well behaved and use the bins

They never seemed to have any problems with us drinking by the canal in Perpignan.
Just booked our hotel bout 5 mins walk from Place du Comedie. Driving up Saturday morning coming back, via the beach, Sunday afternoon.

A few bars do that round here. They don't put the prices up then charge you whatever they feel like.

Thought i'd bump this thread as it is 2 weeks away! Flights sorted courtesy of Ryan Air, just browsing around looking for some hotels. I'd imagine quite a few people will be on the Liverpool - Nimes Fri 3rd and then transfer to Montpelier.

depends,if you are in a restaurant for a meal order a jug (or two or three etc) of red,white or rosé instead of a bottle which may have a pretty label but ends up being expensive and tasting no dfferent to the much cheaper house wine.So,if you want half a litre of red wine you ask for 'un demi de rouge' or 'un demi carafe de rouge' or un demi pichet de rouge' - carafe or pichet = jug or pitcher
If you want white or rosé change the rouge for 'blanc' or 'rosé' - restaurants in france are like in the uk,they charge the earth for their wines with a big mark-up.Most wine drinkers are peasants like me and can't tell the difference between a renowned red costing €10 minimum and an ordinary house red (vin ordinaire).Who cares after the first couple of glasses ?
In the supermarkets you would have to pay between about €1.50 - €2.50 to get a nice bottle of whatever.You can pay a fortune for something that looks pretty and has a picture of a chateau on it but don't be tempted.Down in that part of the world you can get some nice Vin de Pays de l'Aude or Herault or of course a cheap Corbiéres - keep away from the Bordeaux IMO which are usually pretty heavy,especially in the hot weather.
Don't forget your corkscrew and some paper mugs......

On the last 2 visits to Perp I drank an excellent red called 'LE POT' (no jokes please!), but it went from 3 euros a bottle one year to 12 euros the next, so I shall be on the lookout for a reasonable (cheaper) substitute this time, I'm sure I'll enjoy the search !!

ive gone for wednesday 1st to sunday, flying from liverpool to nimes. just need to work out how to get from airport to train station.
