If that had been D Maguire, would it not have been a drop goal attempt ?

| What I don't understand is why Wellens was awarded a try tonight, yet Sam Tomkins was denied one last week for what was the same move.
IMO both were tries, but the difference was that Saints Steve was the video ref last week.

| No Brown was taken out but then still had ample time to make the tackle, he had full balance and could have easily saved that try with better defending, i would have give that if i was vid ref.

I totally agree with you. But the Tomkins try was the same, Lomax still made the tackle and got to Tomkins.
Both identical. One was given and one wasn't.
If the refs are going to be consistant then it shouldn't have been given.
The LMS one was worse. A clear knock-on.

| Maybe it's a proximity thing, Tomkins incident was closer to the line, i don't know though i'm not a ref.

There's no way the try should have been given. Yes Brown had time to make the tackle but he was pushed backwards out of the defensive line and Wellens went through the gap that was created by that. Had Brown not been obstructed the gap probably wouldn't have been there for Wellens to go through, as Brown would have slid across much quicker and been in line with the rest of the defenders.

This.
Also on the subject of music "mixed bizness" by Beck was a strange tune to play out on, which lesbians were they referencing? The two old dears in plastic ponchos they showed in the 2nd half maybe? They did not appear to be screaming though.

| If I had a pound for every time Eddie mentioned 400th game then I'd retire from work. He didn't
mention it after he dropped that simple bomb, after all he is a 'bomb disposal expert'.

| Sour grapes? Brilliant. I could barely contain my glee tonight at watching the 3rd and 4th place teams in Super League play such poor rugby! The only thing that stopped me from actually laughing out loud was the realisation that the 3rd and 4th teams in Super League were not very good, which reflects badly on the sport

The conditions made it worse, but there's no doubt that was a very poor game of RL. The lack of intensity (or atmosphere) was alarming. I expected Saints to ferociously tear Huddersfield to bits as a knee-jerk to last week, but they only looked a little bit more interested than the Giants.
As for Eddie Hemmings, he must have been watching a different game. At one point he said something like: "Royce Simmons demanded a big performance after last week, and boy is he getting one."
Yeah, right.

| Went game last night. After hearing plenty of fans saying Wigan get all decisions their way. Wigan are the only team who have players (well one player who moans at the ref and has tantrums which are like a spoilt child!). Wigan are the only team who get away with Dummy runners in the line (despite it being a certain other team being very good at it before the clamp down!). Wigan are the only team who cheat. Wigan are a team of scooters, and of course Wigan being the team putting 3 players in the tackle to slow the game down.
It was interesting to see flat passes given as forward, saints get a pen for a flop but then not given the other way. Wellens, Graham, and Pryce have a good whinge at everything they could!
Wellens kick the ball away twice before Clough got in on the act! Saints get a couple of tries from the video ref with strong claims of obstruction!
Plenty of scoots and men in the tackle slowing Huddersfield down (Not saying anything wrong with it just seemed strange they are copying us!!)
Part way through the game I thought Sam was playing but then realised they just Booo anyone!!

| Nice to know you all still love watching us play even when we are not at our best.
Was a similar score line to last week, of course when wigan play it's an intense game with great defence on display, when anyone else plays it's a bore fest.
You could cut and paste this thread into any game that wigan play and it would be a carbon copy of what other fans say about wigan. Of course the Wigan fans would then berate all other fans and say that a defensive game can be entertaining too.
Should I expect a swift ban now!!!!
Quote ="Ron"Certainly cancelled each other out, two robotic teams putting on a very dull encounter for the neutrals.
Suppose that was a glimpse of what SL will be like in 5 years when everyone adopts Wigans wrestling style.'"
Quote ="TheElectricGlidingWarrior"It never fails to amaze me how some people whinge about good defense being "boring" whilst completely failing to realise that excitement will be totally absent if points are easy to come by. Teams like Wigan make it difficult to score, and that's good for the English game. And when everybody else's attack catches up it will be even better, especially for the neutrals to watch (though the games this year which have been touted as great adverts for Rugby League are Wigan-Saints Good Friday and Wire-Wigan QF). Until then, fans should stop whinging and ask more of their own clubs instead of expecting Wigan to make it easy for them. Watching Wire put 60 past Salford is extremely boring mate. What next, a letter to Mike Maguire "Please sir, let us score." Pathetic.'"

| Last night wasn't a game about good defence though (defending Pies here against a saint feel sick) it was a game of 2 completely clueless attacks and up the jumper rugby, no runners, no 2nd phase just 5DAAK rugby, bloody hell it was like Noble was coaching both sides.
Dull game, clueless attack, at least Wigan follow up their defence with options in attack.
Saints tactics were so easy to work out i even managed it.
5DAAK, unless they kept the Giants down their own end on the handover then it was 5 drives and wide out to Meli draw the winger pass to Foster.
Tedious game

Now you know how Saints and Leeds felt for years. Wait till next year when M McGuire goes home and your stuck with Wane as head coach, it will be normal service resumed.

No, it wasn't, although Saints produced some superb scrambling defence. It was about a team that had just lost a Challenge Cup semi final making sure it won a match that could provide those fit enough to play with the confidence and launching point to aim for Old Trafford.
Wigan fans are always on about how defence wins games. Ergo. Defence won last night's game. We wanted the win; we got the win.

You can only beat whats put in front of you. Dire fans commenting on how cr@p other teams are is pretty amusing considering that apart from a couple of challenge cups you've been gash for decades. I'd love to know where your arrogance comes from.
