This sporting life has just been re-issued this week. Don't suppose it will pack out the Odeons etc, but the more arty cinemas might show it. It gets an excellent review in the times. Lindsay Anderson directed.
I thought Richard Harris was okay in the role (can't imagine many actors being better).
I have a certain empathy for this film having had several teeth knocked out in similar circumstances.

Think you are getting mixed up here. "This Sporting Life" starred Richard Harris who played a coal miner who signed pro and it was filmed at Wakefield. This was in 1963.
Then in 1978/79 Del Henney played a Welshman who signed pro in the series "Fallen Hero". There were 7 episodes in the series and the RL scenes were filmed at Central Park. It also starred Wanda Ventham. The extras in the crowd scenes were local lads who were just asked to turn up for the filming.
