| Boxing Day 1976.
I was playing with a band (group) at that time and we were at Jolly Jacks Bamfurlong that night.
We were supposed to be there at 7:30 to set up and be on stage at 8:30 for the first set.
Wigan who hadn't won at KR for years managed a 14 -12 win, so I went into the Saints club for a celebration drink (as you would)
At 7 o'clock I decided I'd better make a move up to Jolly Jacks, the rest of the band weren't too impressed with my state on arrival. Big grin (P!ssed)
How did we do, all right, it was full of Wiganers who by that time had celebrated just as much as me.
My Saints supporting brother in law (RIP) who was the singer in the band was not impressed.

| Quote ="Bilko"Easy. Boxing Day 1994.
20-2 up at Half Time but down to 12 men after Henry Paul had been sent off for an (accidental?) trip. This after Adam Fogerty had got just a yellow card for headbutting Neil Cowie (both got sin binned)
Into the second half we went down to 11 men twice. First in a 13 v 11 situation and then a 12 v 11 situation after Skerrett and Pickavance had a biff. In this time Saints came back to lead 25-20 with 7 minutes left.
Bobby Goulding had missed a conversion to make it 27-20 and from the restart Steve Prescott knocked on. Moments later Tuigamala hammered his way over from 30 metres out to make it 26-25 to Wigan and we eventually won 32-25 with as I said a man short.'"
Sadly my memory, despite only being 32, is terrible when it comes to remembering all the details of games. I hink throughout my school years watching Wigan home and away I just got far too wrapped up the whole atmosphere thing to actually take in the details. I do, however remember this game reasonably well for all the reasons Bilko has thankfully reminded me of.
As for the cup replay... more hazy memories so I'm looking for some clarification. I know I wasn't there as my Dad worked away during the week so that wasn't an option and I remember being gutted after the first game knowing I couldn't go. But, wasn't this the night the Ireland V. England football match in Dublin got abandoned because of hooligans? I'm sure it was and as a result the BBC showed extended highlights of our match on Sportsnight, which was a real treat in those pre-sky days.

| 1984 Challenge Cup 3rd round mud bath. A 20007 crowd saw Wigan win 16-7 but the game was in the balance right to the end. That was arguably a turning point in Wigan's fortunes and we all know what happened in the decade that followed. The Wigan fans that day sensed that something had changed for the better. The atmosphere was electric. Will Friday confirm Wigan's renaissance or be just another disappointment? Either way I can't wait to find out.

the 1997 cup game, a game that had everything.
lets hope there is a bit of biff on Friday, or are the players too professional for that now?

My favourite game too!!! Connolly was sin binned for lying on in a tackle. Lasting memory of that game is the saints ball boy throwing the v when offiah ran past him celebrating his try

I though we was in for a right pasting in the second half.

| The 19-0 which was actually Easter Monday rather than Good Friday!
Tommy's sublime pass inside to Peter Shiels and the KC's wonder tackle on Mark Smith in the corner.
Remember just waiting for you guys to come back at us. Fortunately it didn't happen!
What a game!

That was a game Wigan could have won. Julian O'Neil made two breaks early in the game and chose to dummy when he had players in support who would have scored.
The 5 -4 game in the Lancashire Cup Final was one of the fiercest fought and most enjoyable games I have ever seen.

| The first time I ever saw Wigan live was a good Friday clash @ KN back in 86 or 87 i think.
I can't remember the score but I'll always remember my first sight of Hanley and Gill. I've been watching Wigan ever since because of those two players that day.

watched that game again last night on youtube.
the tackle from Goulding was one of the worst you will ever see - followed by an all in brawl was this also the game that Andy Farrell tried smacking Newlove off the ball late on, Newlove just stood up laughing and pointed at the scoreboard.

He punched Newlove as Newlove played the ball. Square on his chin and newlove just laughed at him. Newlove actually said at a fans forum it was the softest punch he had ever received whilst playing rugby.

Murphy was about to substitute Pendlebury before he scored.
Was that David Stepensons debut?

Oh yes I had forgotten about the 'here we go' chant which spontaneously took off in a big way that day. I still remember quite vividly the feeling that day amongst the Wigan fans that something significant was happening even though the rugby on the day wasn't that special and we clearly didn't know what was to follow. The only other time I have felt something similar was when we beat Hull KR in the 1985 semi at Elland Road. What I remember and still feel is the the sudden belief that surged through the fans that could only be appreciated by being there. I hope Friday is another similar defining moment in the history of Wigan RL. To be amongst 5000+ fans who all sense that the future has finally arrived would be an awesome experience. I was with my dad that day in 1984 and sadly he is no longer with us but I now want to share something similar with my son on Friday.
