| nice to see the"little" bloke come out on top for once, too many clubs are bankrolled by big companies and it was great to see dave whelan smiling at the end, lets hope ken davy gets a chance this year to smile for all the hard work he has put into keeping hudds afloat

| I read somewhere that the Man City starting 11 cost over £200 million, and Latics' cost £11 million. That is remarkable.

Exactly. There are some right paranoid fools knocking about on here.
Fair play to the Latics, they did Wigan proud yesterday!

| Quote ="lothlorian"personally I'll never forgive Whelan what he did in the playoffs. A whole seasons work made to play on a neutral ground. You dont see Hull and Huddersfield having that issue. He screwed us over and I want nothing but failure for him. As much as I love an underdog story and its good for the town, i dont want to that man have any success. Fingers crossed in 2 weeks his joy turns to tears.'"
We played ONE game on a neutral ground and we won.
Huddersfield played four a couple of years back.

| Firstly congrats to Latics. I'm no great football fan, in fact it is the first time i have ever shown any emotion watching a club football game.
As for DW 'hating' us. Complete and utter nonsense. Without doubt his first love is the football club, as mine is the rugby club, but like me and the MAJORITY of wiganers he wants both clubs to do well.

Anyone spot the "one team in wigan" banner at the end?
They hate us, with a passion and would gladly see us tossed out of that stadium and on the scrap heap, trust me, I know enough of them. Go on that famous video site and watch the videos of them burning wigan rugby posters in the toilets when they played liverpool at home'"
Yeah I saw the banner too; we should try to ignore people like those. It’s sad to see personal jealousy drowning out the community pride for their home town. Well done Latics!

| You've got to laugh at the bitterness shown by some on here. I'm not a big football fan but I was jumping for joy when that goal went in because it is WIGAN winning something. So what if some of their supporters are as thick as some of ours?

| leaving aside potential political affiliations - which are irrelevent at a time like this, , i'm absolutely made up for whelan. without him latics would be nowhere. after what happened to him in the 60 cup final, this must be up there with the finest days of his life. this is a high point for latics that cant realistically be beaten anytime soon (certainly within whelans lifetime).
if latics go down (which is looking probable given that the need to win at the nal mid-week), how much appetite for the fight will he have left now ?
i know that he doesnt manager the team or pick the players, but i just wonder what the impact will be ??
we've seen it with clubs when cup finals have been quickly followed by relegation, and periods of lesser success (leicester, boro, west ham, pompey, bham ...)
anyway, whatever happens next, enjoy the success Mr Whelan. You deserve every second of it

| Am a Saints fan but will testify to the opinions that so many Latics fans just drive me up the wall, they'll jump off the bandwagon in their thousands when they go down though. I like Martinez and can't help but feel happy for Whelan even if he's a bit of a pillock.

i assume that you will also take that line with all those that idolise communism, blairism, israelis, palestinians, reaganites, ANC supporters, obama-ists, islamists, christians, catholics ....
please name me a political theology or religion that does not have blood on its hands ... ?
as for whelan, as i said, i an happy for him because of what he went through - i did not say i like him, or agree with him, but that i can empathise with him given what happened in 1960.
being able to put oneself in someone else's position is an important part of any human being, without that a human risks being unable to understand other peoples viewpoints, and risks arrogance, intolerance and insensitivity.

What a lovely person you come across as.
You have to laugh at the irony given the recent history with the group of people in your avatar.
You simply could not make it up.

And given your avatar, I presume Stalin is in yours? Nah, at least he had organisation, probably more like some rabble rousing morons......
Back on topic, a fantastic performance by Wigan Athletic that only the bigotted, predjudiced and one-eyed amongst the people cannot see or appreciate.
As for Dave Whelan, looks like he is neither. At the height of his footballing success he mentions that he hopes that Wigan RL also win the cup.
When was the last time that a Wigan RL chairman said that about Wigan Athletic?
Credit where it is due.

Given my avatar. You equate Ska/The Specials with Stalin?
Interesting that you choose the words bigotted and prejudiced. Could be your epitaph that

IL was at both the semi and the final supporting Latics. In fact he said that if the HKR match had been scheduled for tv and clashed with the final he would have gone to Wembley, which would have given plenty of posters on here, including me, something to chew over.
