Sat right in front of me . Asked him was he coming to our place in exchange for Gleeson he just laughed and said " Yeah me and Richie " . He did say though that as far as he knew Gleeson was going to you lot .

| Quote ="tank123"Gleeson coming to us is not as unplanned as people think. IL said we had a signning in the pipeline and its was quality rather than quantity and that was during the 1st week of the season or even before then.'"
Gleeson has only become available with the arrival of Tony Smith at Warrington. To suggest we have been working on signing Gleeson since the start of the season is ridiculous.
Quote RE: Prop
Next season Lynch is available and is a better player than Carvell. Though Carvell is a good player id rather we get Lynch. I find it quite ironic its the people that want Noble out that are saying its not what we need. When we dont rush in and sign a player the club gets hammered by some. Yes we need a prop and we need at least 1 prop that can play 50-60 min and get some forward momentum going.'"
Then if we are prepared to pay a transfer fee and can afford a player like Gleeson we should have gone for a prop. It is what we need now.
Quote Roberts was needed this season as id guess Noble knew that Mathers was not good enough so got his winger sorted and then had Richards ready to go to FB. '"
Of course it's all a master plan, no really
Quote Cap situation meant that we might have to wait to get Gleeson as not to go over it. Ainscough coming in and and doing the job he has done has been a massive bonus. But then again Noble will not get any credit for this. '"
Of course he won't because he does not deserve any! You know as well as I do he only got games due to circumstance not as a planned introduction. Last season Noble's excuse for not playing either of them was "duty of care". How he squares that with his recent comments saying it's not about age but ability I really don't know. It's a U turn any politician would be proud of.
Quote Tomkins was enforced on him though by Smiths inability to defend.
'"
Exactly!
Quote I still cant believe people think that Goulding will become a great player. Hes only going to be mediocre hes had chance. The same chances Ainscough and Tomkins had.Goulding has played a few decnet games but hes played more poor ones than good ones and is not in the same class as Gleeson and never will be. You can tell a good player even at a young age. '"
Goulding had half a season in 2008 followed by 2 more games then 2 games in 2009. You are far too quick to judge. I can't believe you are prepared to write off a young player age 21 based on so few games.
Quote If we had signed Bird then Tomkins would not get his chance and again the usual people would be complaining that we took an Australian player with problems instead of giving a homegrown player a chance.
Its become such a joke the people who contradictes themselves on here. Especially we did not sign Bird. Bird signs gets a permit Tomkins walks away from the club sooner rather than later. And its the same people who says we dont give homegrown a chance.'"
You totally miss the point. Whether Tomkins would get a game or not, Noble wanted Bird and the club tried to get him. They could not because they took Roberts a year early. The merits or otherwise of getting Bird are not what I am on about but Wigan being hamstrung on moving for Bird because they reacted to the fact Roberts came available early is.

| With Goulding playing today it suggests he's staying.
We can then keep Pryce and Goulding as back up to 3/4s of.
Richards, Roberts, Gleeson, Carmont Ainscough. We have Lulu. Sam T and Smith as halves.
Bearing in mind how many are OOC this year then we can strengthen the pack with one prop if Coley stays or two if he goes. If IL & BN want they will have plenty dosh to buy a playmaker stand off too.
Have a feeling that this squad is now at last begining to take shape.
My ideal scenario for 2010 will be two top quality props, one enforcer & one playmaker and a playmaker stand off.
Top quality men in those positions could transform Wigan into a potential trophy winning team.

Goulding ISN'T going to Wire, a short term loan deal with another SL club is trying to be put together but he wants to stay at Wigan and fight for his place - sounds like it's just the "chocolate fireguard" off to Wire then

A good player a few years ago but to sign a 29 year old with a record of injuries and suspensions on big money is madness.
That was the general consensus when we signed him anyway....not sure whether it would be a better move now he's about to turn 32.

If Noble thought he was not good enough why did he offer him a new deal with the club? Also why did he offer Phelps a new deal?
I think you are speculating about Bird and Tomkins who is to say what would have happened, if we could not accomodate Bird and Tomkins in the current team i would be even more worried by the management.

| Gleeson for Mathers + £££ is outstanding business.
Goulding still needs to go on loan as he is nowhere near a first team spot.
For next year, we need a halfback of quality and a world class prop and we won't be to far short.
With Coley, Smith, Bailey, Phelps & Tommy all out of contract, with the right two signings we could move all 5 listed above on and have a bloody good squad.

Very true mate.
These two signings will transform our team and eradicate two of the major flaws we have in having zero direction/control from HB and no one to intimidate the opposition players in the front row.

Can't wait for tomorrow then.
We’ve potentially got the best centre pairing in SL. Obviously there are a few better individual centres out there but no club imo has two centres that are better than Gleeson and Carmont together.
If we can add a good young HB to our backs we are really starting to look dangerous.

| Talau is out for a while I think so it could be. Hope so because Goulding will benefit a lot more going out on loan and playing consistently week in week out and we can gain a more accurate judgement into how he will progress "in relation to" how he performs.

| Bout time we 'played the system' in Wigan's favour. Saints have a few of their future stars playing regularly in SL and they seem to be going well for the most part. Whilst ours are pasting under strength academy sides week in week out.
It’s not rocket science which ones are getting the best development.
We have plenty of youngsters that certain clubs would jump at the chance of taking on loan. Not only does it mean we get to keep hold of them for free as the other club pays their wages but we can better asses how the can handle SL. Doesn’t matter if they don’t make it and really balls up as they aren’t playing for us at the end of the day.

If you want to believe folk on here it is. Its been virtually 2.30pm every day for the last 5 days...
I am really happy with the deal if it comes off. Cash plus Mathers is a fantastic deal for the club and will hopefully give us a bit of spark up the right hand side which we badly need as we are only threatening with the ball on the left flank.
Theres no denying that when on form that Gleeson is the best british centre around and hopefully he will be able to capture that form in Wigan colours.

I would agree with that but think we need 2 props to replace Fielden and Coley, this would give our pack consistent go forward for the full 80 without having to rely on Hock and Feka, it would also have a knock on effect on the likes of Joel and Prescott because if they see our other forwards dominating then they would get more confidence and the opposition would be more tired and intimidated etc . For the money Fielden and Coley will be on we should easily be able to fit in 2 props and a SH on the cap
