You can play but still have a niggling injury that holds you back. He might be having to miss training sessions, have pain killing injections, play limited minutes, change his playing style to protect himself, whatever. Granted I'm speculating, but if Mick Potter says he's been struggling with injuries, and he's played 12 games, that might give you a clue as to why he hasn't shone in those games.

I've seen him over the past few years, in all honesty he's gone backwards. I hope he finds some good form at Wigan because his effort is always there and he comes across as a great clubman.
But I can't help think that he isn't Wigan quality.

Don't know anything about him but at 25 he's clearly not some has-been and not wet behind the ears either

Asotasi is probably taking up at least twice the salary cap.

| Do you think it might be sensible to look at this bloke in a Wigan shirt before we start pontificating about his strengths, weaknesses and suitability? (Same with Andy Powell)
Looking back at the thread about squad numbers for 2013 there are some VERY interesting comments from the experts on here about how certain players were going to perform, even ones like Faz who had been at the club for years. NOT ONE of the experts thought that Faz was any better than a squad player that he wasn't really a second rower and that even Jack Hughes would be a better bet in the SR.
Had to admit I thought it was hilarious considering the ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that some of these people post on here. They know better than Shaun Wane despite his playing and coaching career set against their own keyboard/armchair career!!!

Come on there is nothing wrong with discussing any new signings potential strengths and weaknesses. The NZW fans are doing exactly the same with Sam. It's what fans do.

Everybody is an armchair coach including you I'd wager. If you disagree with anyone posting "Jack Hughes would be a better bet in the SR (than Faz)" say why [iyou[/i think so don't just slag them off for saying it! And by the way the "they know better than <insert name of coach>" has been viewed as a lame argument for years.

I used the word pontificate advisedly as some on here (not necessarily you - but if the cap fits) speak with an air of 'papal infalibility'
I wouldn't want to get into an ill-informed debate about players abilities because for one, players actually read this stuff as do their families and whilst the players probably can cope it's much more hurtful for families. I thought your comments about Andy Powell were outrageous and so unfair given he had only played 20 minutes the other night.
Re lame arguments. How many years? Possibly the number of years that internet forums have existed. Before that you could air your views in the pub and only infect those around you, and if you upset anyone, you might get a smack in the mouth for your trouble.
I suspect that secretly with your anti-Wane agenda, whilst you would like Wigan to win SL, you are also going to win if they implode, because you will be vindicated.
I use this site because I support Wigan, go to every game and enjoy a bit of chat about Rugby league. I am frankly amazed at the attitude of you and your acolytes, who some posters are afraid to go up against lest they be labelled a 'happy-clapper'. Your 'anti-Wane agenda' would be laughed at at any other Rugby club or even any other sporting club. To be so openly viperous about the coach and chairman when they are TOP OF THE LEAGUE - second season running is hilarious. My word, what would you have to say if you were a Saints fan!?
Hope you don't take offence at this. I enjoy your posts sometimes and you always have something interesting to say. It's just your lack of humility and willingness to accept when you are wrong and also genuinely thinking that you know better than SW ~ that gets to me and others.
Stay cool - keep the faith - enjoy the game tonight.'"
It would appear that it's you who needs to stay cool. What a ridiculous post. You launch an attack like this then ask that the recipient doesn't take offence!

Oh come off it. Anyone involved in pro sport knows they are under scrutiny and it goes with the territory. The idea if someone doesn't rate a player they shouldn't say so in case they may offend them or their families is ridiculous. The players get slagged off and abused far worse at matches (never from me by the way).
I also take issue with the ill-informed bit of your post as well. Many of us have watched the game for decades and can recognise both good and poor players when we see one. Not we aren't Mark Bitcon or Shaun Wane but that doesn't mean anyone posting in here is offering ill-informed opinion. They are the opinions of fans who follow the sport in detail and take a great interest in it. Or is it only ill informed if its not positive?
No idea why what you are referring to that I posted about Powell that was outrageous either.

I didn't say lame arguments (plural) I was referring to the one over-used argument/come back of the coach is always right. This is a place to view our opinions not parrot his. Nothing wrong with agreeing with the coach but it's a weak position to take if that is all you can think of to justify your opinion as to why a player is good or otherwise is because the coach said so.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before you accused me of having an "agenda". What is the purpose of my so called "anti-Wane agenda" and what do I hope to achieve?

Me any my acolytes? Who might they be and when do we meet to hatch our devious plots?
[u:2w9mai1zHope you don't take offence at this. [/u
Really!? After all that slagging off?
Anyway I am about to start my journey to the game and if Powell plays I will be cheering him on as I was last week. If he or anyone else is poor I dare say there will be a discussion about it afterwards just as there will be if anyone has a good game. That is the way it works.

| Pettybourne is another of those guys who was regarded really highly but never really kicked on. I've watched him for years waiting for him to start playing well. I expected him to make a better go of it at Wests with the change of scenery but obviously not.
He's easily SL quality and brings something a bit different with how fast and explosive he is, but he's not a great rugby league player by any means and it's a punt because you don't know what you're going to get from him. Potentially he could be huge, or he could plod along doing nothing of value.
I wouldn't read too much into what Wests Tigers fans have to say about any forward who plays for them. Ben Te'o and Bronson Harrison were also rubbish at the tigers, same can be said for Adam Blair at the moment. The Tigers have a history of taking great forwards and somehow getting them to not perform, from what I can gather.

| Not seen much of him at Wests but at Souths he struck me as a quality impact forward ideal to come off the bench and punch holes in the defence. Similar to Paea and I am sure once we missed out on him we went straight for this signing.
Running wide off a flat ball he will take some stopping, very explosive if we can keep him on the field.

Yep.
He hit grade at Souths with a massive impact....several seasons later astute purchases at Souths saw him lagging behind.
He's been average for us....but thats par for the course at Wests. He could be a good pick up for you.
If he can find the form he had when he first began, he used to hit the line like a truck, feearless

What is his attitude like? If he has the right attitude I think, based on what I have read, he could thrive here. We have a very good back room staff who have done very well with what may have appeared curious signings to me and others at the time.

| Hard to tell, hes only been with us half a season, weve had a bitch of a year disrupted by injuries, Eddys had injuries...a new coach, CEO resigning, we are stoney broke....he, Anasta and Bodene Thompson - our three NRL experienced recruits (recruited by the EX- coach) this year have all struggled to find a role so to speak
He's been used sparingly off the bench, offered little impact and struggled to get involved. Of the three mentioned I was most excited and looked forward to what he'd bring, he hasnt really worked with us - but he's got a long line in that category behind him

Can't knock he's attitude and thats why Madge referred the club to him after he knew they would be releasing him because of the salary cap. He is fearless when running at the line and i wish he was as big as a real prop because he would be a monster unfortunately he is another 2nd row convert.
I have yet been worried about players leaving and the team being weaker from their replacements even last year but i hope we haven't signed pettybourne and nobody else for mossop.

| Never seen him play but he is at a good age to come over from the NRL and will hopefully add some aggression to the pack for next season and ensure we don't get bullied - particularly with our young squad.
Hoping him and Hopkins will give us some real power next season.
