I've been reading around about Rangi Chase.

He's contracted to 2013. His agent confirmed that Castleford were looking to restructure his contract to keep him at the club. Two months later and Chase's lawyer claims his client is contracted to 2015. And people on the other Castleford forum are adament that he has signed a two-year extension. Chase has been quoted in RLW that he has 'fallen in love with Cas' but the idea of playing for a successful side is certainly one that interests him. He also has the desire to return to the NRL to play for New Zealand.

Also the rumoured figure slapped on the last two years of his contract is £500k.

Ouch.

To me, that all makes it sound like he's available. But I can't see Wigan touching him at that price.

I'd take Todd Carney over Rangi Chase any day of the week. Apparently Carney's agent has said he's confident he can get a UK Visa.

Carney's proved it in the best competition, Chase makes me think of big fish/small pond syndrome ala Danny Orr and Denis Moran.

Imagine the outrage if we signed Carney.

It would be worth it just for that.

Imagine if we signed Carney and he obtained a work permit/visa after Huddersfield failed with their attempt.
It would make the Pongia visa issue pale by comparison.
As for ability Carney every time over Chase. At £500k Cas will be keeping him.
Trouble is, maybe Carney's baggage is weighing him down too much.

Regardless of how talented he is, why sign a d1ckhead in Carney knowing his background when we've just got rid of one in Gleeson? He's the type of player that will turn Radlinksi bald.

I'd be surprised if Carney got a visa and even more surprised if we signed him, don't think he would be the sort of person IL/Wane/Rads want around the club, as MattyB says, Gleeson was shown the door so why open it up again to someone else? No doubt he's a fantastic player, but do you risk upsetting what seems to be a very close knit squad with a bit of a loose cannon?

Re the change of scenery, it might be exactly the thing he needs to get out of the Sydney NRL goldfish bowl and get back on the straight and narrow.

Carney over Chase for me also.

Why chose have both.

In all honesty I thing Carney would fit in to the team and tactics rather than Chase, if we signed Chase we would need to change tactics somewhat, at present both halfbacks are the same, just someone to pass the ball out to Sam who is playing the traditional role of 6 (which has transformed to the role of 1 in recent years).

Opposition teams know Deacon and Finch aint going to take the line on so will slide out because they know Sams getting it, if we had Carney he or Chase could dummy and go and put that doubt in the defences minds.

Either or for me but I'd prefer Carney
