If IL had got run over by a bus yesterday we would be in the same situation today whether we had a CEO or not.
The club is owned by IL and the Lenagan family.
What his NOK would do is anyone's guess but if they did look to sell the club I don't think this time around there would be a shortage of buyers.
As has been said the club is now run on a sound financial basis with the very real possibility of a profit year ending 2010.
This is what IL has acheived, he has brought the club into a financially viable operation and I'm sure this will continue.
I do hope IL goes nowhere near buses, he owns a beautiful car which should prevent him needing to use his bus pass.

If you've got personal knowledge of other perhaps more valuable duties that he performed superbly well in the name of Wigan RL, and which the club are now desperately missing, I'd love to hear about them.

I see no reason to assume that IL won't appoint a new CEO when he feels the club needs one.

Diminishing Hogan's input is typical of what happens on here. He's the best thing since sliced bread but now he's gone he wasn't that important after all. Ridiculous. Mind you it would never do to say otherwise would it or that might imply IL had forgotten how to walk on water.

And just to get the record straight IL has done a great job but pointing out the odd flaw in the set up isn't sacrilege.

So basically, things are no different now than they were under Whelan in terms of ownership in that one man owns the club.



It would be easier to take over as a going concern than having to disentangle the finances if it were run by IL as DW ran it but in terms of who calls the shots we are still a one man band. A CEO is supposed to be given a job to do by the owner(s)/shareholders and left to get on with it. Now it just might be our previous CEO didn't get that sort of autonomy and just maybe got too much interference from IL.

No-one's saying IL is walking on water. But I query whether or not failure to immediately replace Mick Hogan is a flaw.

Taken in isolation, I think the current absence of a CEO would be an interesting point to discuss, though not worthy of the sort of the shock-horror that you seem to be attributing to it. But with you Dave, it’s part of a familiar pattern of negativity which gradually seems to build up a head of steam under each new administration.

At the risk of being called a ‘happy clapper’, I’m quite content that one thing IL does seem to know about is how to run companies efficiently.

i think you are giving a great disservice to simon collinson and geoff warburton if you seriously believe IL is running the club on his own. them two along with lenagan are the reason why they arnt bringing in a new ceo.

Oh and the post wasnt meant to be an attack on Wigan, its not like i can do that when you look at Saints set of results, which are horrific.

Once the Wigan club start ripping off us fans by charging £20-25 like some other clubs in this league then the turnover would increase significantly.

Exactly. I don't see this obsession with turnover anyway. The club is in good shape financially, find it comparitively easy to attract top players as well as produce our own and we, as fans, enjoy watching the great rugby produced by the league leaders for a fraction of the price paid by fans of other clubs, most of whom have served up a much poorer product this season.

You miss my point. A CEO is in theory a very powerful person that is pretty autonomous and is set goals by the owners and/or board of directors and left to get on with it. I am pretty sure Simon Collinson and Geoff Warburton are not working that way and in effect IL is acting as the CEO. This is little different to how DW ran things.

I am also we aware of how much effort Simon Collinson puts in as he has done for years but the suggestion or implication Mick Hogan did little is IMO wide of the mark.
