| [delMossop and Harrison are from Cumbria so couldn't really play for a Lancashire team.[/del
The Lancashire team would get absolutely hammered that's for sure. The best halfbacks would be Lomax and Myler (assuming Briers wouldn't play in such a game) and neither are the greatest kickers or players who are likely to control a game.
Sam Tomkins
Josh Charnley
Chris Bridge
Kallum Watkins / Stefan Ratchford
Jamie Foster
Jonny Lomax
Richie Myler
James Graham
James Roby
Adrian Morley
Joel Tomkins
Ben Harrison
Sean O'Loughlin
Kevin Sinfield
Gareth Hock
Lee Mossop
Paul Wood
Yorkshire team would be something like
Ben Jones-Bishop
Jermaine McGilvary
Michael Shenton
Kirk Yeaman
Tom Briscoe
Leon Pryce
Danny Brough
Andy Lynch
Luke Robinson
Jamie Peacock
Joe Westerman
Ben Westwood
Jon Wilkin
Danny Houghton / Daryl Clark
Lee Gilmour
Garreth Carvell
Eorl Crabtree

They would as they'd play for the county of the club that gave them their debuts.

I didn't realise that's how it worked. I'll edit my teams then.

i dont know why the rfl is trying to get away from this,
having a lancs v yorkshire game, thats as strong as the state of origin then it would help the game as a whole

According to Friends of Real Lancashire, at the time of the county boundary changes in 1974, the then government said that the new counties (Greater Manchester, Merseyside etc) were administrative areas only and the official Lancashire boundary had not changed.

The official boundaries of counties never changed, they were just "considered" to be in different areas to help in defining local government.
They're all still Lancashire.
Check the Gazzetteer of British Place Names.
It doesn't mean that putting one of your places is [iwrong[/i, but neither is putting Lancashire.

| A return to the war of the roses clashes will never materialise as it would never be taken seriously by all the clubs that had to submit it's players for such a game.
Unlike in Australia whereby players selected for the origin games are duly rested by their club sides prior to these games

| I wonder if they could have a Lancashire-Yorkshire game as a build up to the England vs Exiles game, assuming it's played on a stand alone weekend. The teams could consist of players on the fringes of the England team but mostly promising young players. It could be seen as a stepping stone for some of those players and the chance to impress in front of the England coach.

Yes you are wrong. You've quoted Metropolitan counties, which are simply an amalgamation of MBC's who agree to pool resources. The proper county palatine was an area ruled by an hereditary nobleman possessing special authority and autonomy from the rest of the kingdom. These are the official recognised counties. There's no way Wigan is in Manchester. St Helens however, is definitely in Merseyside, except for Haydock Park.

Any curtain raiser to the Exiles game should be the England Knights against France imo. I dont see any place in the current fixture calendar for a Lancs-Yorks game and tbh i dont really think there is much call for one.

Does this only apply to players who were born outside one of those counties? Kevin Sinfield made his pro debut for Leeds, but was born and raised in Oldham, but he played for Lancs last time we did this.
I miss the ROses matches, but I don't think they were commercially successful enough for us to be seeing them again soon. Shame as I'd much prefer it to the Exiles game. Yorkshire v Lancashire at least means something to me.

Aye it only applies for players born outside Lancs or Yorkshire. I remember the last time it was played a young winger from London Broncos turned out for Lancs (his name has gone).
An example of a Lancashire player who made his first team debut for a Yorkshire club we could pick this time would be Kallum Watkins. He's a Salford lad iirc.

Traditional County Boundaries have never changed, map not out of date.
Depending where you live you can use more than one "county" in your address, the actual county your town is in or the administrative area that provides your services. So a Warringtonian can say they're in Cheshire or Lancashire, but their official county is Lancashire.

Absolutely right, it has. Here's a better map. That border should go round the bottom of Windermere.

| That looks suspiciously like the Association of British Counties map.
Which is fine, except that ABC is a pressure group and has no particular right to assert that it's 1884 boundaries are any more valid or less arbitrary than the 1974 ones.
As counties were always administrative entities, and as, for an example, Lancashire has no administrative role in, say, Barrow, it seems fairly meaningless to describe Barrow as being in Lancashire. The boundaries were, in fact, officially re-drawn in 1974.

No they weren't. As the government said:
[i"The new county boundaries are solely for the purpose of defining areas of local government. They are administrative areas, and will not alter the traditional boundaries of counties, nor is it intended that the loyalties of people living in them will change."[/i
