I'd rather have Bowen with Smith or Charnley knuckling down in the offseason as kickers. Hampshire can kick too.

| His twitter account is account states everything he represents other than Wigan, his latest picture looks like a knock up for a Union trail.
Like the majority of our fans, I just wish he'd go now, it's absolutely ridiculous the amount of time it's dragging out and how much he's playing games.
Can't remember ever a player, like Faz, Robinson creating this much drama. Find it a tad disrespectful.

| Tomkins won't be to blame for this not being announced, that's for sure. Ian Lenagan will have barred the announcement until he can whittle together a few 'feel good' announcements to make alongside it. It's the way he's dealt with things since he came to the club.
Tomkins could probably tread a little more carefully but ultimately his hands are tied. He's the best at what he does and we can sit here all we want and say how good we've been to him and how good the game has been to him but he doesn't get the rewards his talent deserves. I used an example recently whilst watching Wigan Athletic about how shoddy our players wages are in comparison to average footballers. Latics have average players on wages Sam Tomkins could only dream about and that's not right. This guy is a once a generation player and I count us lucky to have had him play for us this long.
I personally would have held him to at least the next year of his contract but that's another story which again (I guess) sits at Lenagans feet.

Whilst I agree with much of what you say, this isn't football and never will be. Their wages are stupid, most people agree. Sam is the best payed player ever in this country, he can't complain really in that aspect. Not to mention all his off-field income he generates.
Many a player before him have been talented, and haven't created this much stink. If he wants to test himself elsewhere I've no problem with that at all, afterall he has won just about everything this country has to offer.
I just wish there was some honesty with the fans. It's dragged on for too long.

I agree with all that. We want a sport on the cheap and ever since it went full time I have constantly been banging on about it that if you want a pro sport you have to pay pro level wages not wages they might entitle some of our lesser players to benefits!
That said I do think some of the comments in the telegraph article are a bit disrespectful in particular the one about Union players being looked after 10 times better than RL players. He knows what people have done for him in the game so while he may think that and while it may be true a bit of diplomacy wouldn't go amiss as otherwise it makes him look ungrateful.

I wonder whether his comments were embellished somewhat by the Union reporters as Sam said that he had "straightbatted" all questions about his future on this particular day.

No idea but its a quote but it could be out of context I suppose. Still doesn't look very good though.

| Why do people time and time again fall for this journalism crap. They are well known to take a tenth of a story, spin whatever angle they want on it, they then include a few 'quotes' to make their story seem plausible.
For example
Q: What do you think of the Union V League rivalry.
A: I'm not one of these people who slags of union just because I'm a league player, I'd never rule union out somewhere in the future but I love RL and I'm contracted to Wigan.
Diplomatic answer? I'd say so
Q: Would you like to play in a RU World Cup?
A: Of course playing in a RU World Cup in front of the crouds achieved at Twickenham would be great but I'm excited about playing in the RL World Cup at the end of the year and think we have decent chance of pulling off an upset.
RU Journalists conclusion: Tomkins looking to switch codes before the 2015 World Cup and writes article using 'quotes' from part of the answers.
The point being don't believe what you read in the papers!

He used to be fantastic under the high ball. Since the Leeds CC semi last year when he dropped a couple he's never been the same.

You can't just give him the ball and say 'there you go Sam do something' (well possibly against London). He game relies on getting the ball in the space to show what he can do, for whatever reason that's not happening at the moment.

| Even tonight you could see he is a class act. Very hard to do anything in a team that is doing nothing.
Radlinski would have had Jones Bishop though

| Tomkins to stand off for me.
Pointless playing him on the fringes against good teams, they can read "The Move" and this leaves him with no space. That's why he's seemed so anonymous.
He's the best player we have, surely he should be getting the ball as much as possible? He's not just a "runner", he's the most complete stand off at the club, if not the league. People seemed to have forgotten this, including Wane.
This isn't some knee-jerk reaction either, our predictable attack has been plodding along for months, and this seems to me a great way to shake it up. Hampshire can cover fullback, although hopefully he won't be seen as a long term fullback solution given the fact he too is a very complete stand off.
Tomkins is the best player in the league, let's use him!

Exactly. In the NRL he will go fine provided his team give him the space to work. I expect they won't be reliant on just him either so it won't be a case of shut "Sam down shut Wigan down" which means the opposition won't be able to afford the luxury of just looking after Sam.
