It was tense in the fact that the underdogs were close to winning but you always felt SA would find a way to win but after the game finished and the excitement/tension dropped (I did really want England to win) after the final whistle and I reflected on the game it was f’ing awful. Suppose from England a point of view their tactics nearly worked but it was very negative, South Africa didn’t really have an answer or the quality to take the game by the scruff of the neck and it took really weak defence and what a lot of people are saying was an iffy penalty to win the game. It’s probably better for England as those spoiling tactics I don’t think would have worked against NZ and I think a heavy beating would have been on the cards.

Saw 10 mins at the end. I hope for Farrell’s sake he is going to get to play rugby league for a couple of years. He deserves to have some enjoyment in his life because playing and watching that sport full time must be mind numbing. It gets a huge billing but then so does show jumping, shooting and canoeing in the Olympics. Fair play to Union, they’re selling ice to eskimos.

Fingers crossed we hear positive news on a renewal for Harry Smith soon too. Would also be very interesting to know what the status of the marquee player spots is and what the plans for them are going forward with all of the big names, recruits and young players developing. It would surprise me if there is room to keep all of French, Field and Smith post 2024 considering the salary increase Smith will warrant after his contract expires.

I’m not sure that’s a rumour.

It’s something I speculated on when we were initially linked with him.

I do except him to go on loan for a good bit of 2024 but with the changes at Trinity today of coach and chairman relationships may not be as strong as they were with the previous coach particularly.
