Completely agree with all of this. The guy's a machine and its gutting to lose him irrespective of any other recruitment.

Wigan tv has an interview with IL. He’s said Fields the best player he’s seen during his time as owner and it’s great we’ve got him at least another couple of years.

As much as I empathise and share the frustration of fans if Morgan Smithies goes to the NRL. The excitement/fascination of seeing how Owen Farrell would fair in Super League as well as the much much much needed publicity it would bring to us and the game is outweighing that disappointment for me.

God I hope this rumour is true.

Yes it's from a podcast he did a year or so ago. Hyperbole but an interesting view. I don't watch RU so have no knowledge of Owen other than his goalkicking ability - I watched a highlights package of him today and you can see some similarities with his dad.

His goal kicking is also declined considerably from a couple of years ago, although I would imagine he will still be one of the best in Superleague, he hits hard but how many tackles does he make a game? A handful? Could be asked to do 30/40/50 in a game of league, he also isn’t the fastest or biggest. He will have a job on his hands to make a meaningful impact.

Pointless signing IMO from a playing perspective

Most of us do,but as a statement it puts out if it happens is massive for Wigan & RL to a lesser extent.

Exactly why he wouldn’t play 13 for us.

The positions he has played in Union are fly half and inside centre which are most close to our scrum half and stand off.

Anyone who thinks he’s going to defend in the middle and he taking the ball up is deluded.

If Owen Farrell fancies his chances in Superleague I hope it would not be at Wigan. The sort of money he would want would be a very expensive gamble with only a small chance of success and would impact greatly on our ability to manage our salary cap to it's fullest. It's the sort of signing only the likes of Warrington would make. We have just won the Grand Final and have made signings that should strengthen. us even more next year. What on earth do we want with an untried RU man who is at the back end of his career.,

If were to come no way is he defending on an edge.

He would be exposed as he lacks the dynamic movement required to defend on an edge. At 31/32 he’s not going to get that back.

His attitude to defence is positive and whilst we wouldn’t be able to work on his agility/dynamic movement we would be able to work on his aerobic fitness and rugby league specific conditioning.

I actually think we’re he to come he would be used in a utility role as I don’t see him in a starting role but I can only see him being used as a forward unless we pick up an injury during a game then he could cover centre a bit like Bateman, Isa and Faz had to do at times.

I’m not sure Owen Farrell is a sensible signing. Do we really need to sign him? Or is this just a statement signing, a showpiece, media attention signing? I think the latter personally if true.

I just don’t see where he plays. 13 is occupied by at least 3 players (Smithies, Ellis, Thompson). I wouldn’t swap out Smith nor French at HB nor French for Miski on the wing. He isn’t a back rower, even if he was there’s no room and centres are covered.

The only way it makes sense is if the Field to Catalans rumours are true, French to FB and Owen Farrell in the halves but I’ve got to be honest, I’d rather not.

It would have been excellent at the start of this season or the season before but honestly now, I just think too little too late. Coulda woulda shoulda.

Farrell would be a fantastic signing in my opinion . We’d be signing a 32 year old rugby union player , not a 32 year old rugby league player. His body has not been battered anywhere near that of a RL player of a similar age .
