I do hope so as a fit GB could be a great asset to the squad.'"
As long as GB is a Wigan player there will always be the "what if" argument. What if he gets fit, what if we play him and he smashes it etc. Let's not pull any punches, a healthy GB is the best prop in the league - that's a fact & that's why he'll always be gambled on.
It would be really interesting to know how Burgess feels after Friday. For me he actually looked a tiny bit better than what we'd previously seen. I'm kind of hoping that's the first small step forward.
If he still feels cr@p then, it's time to hang the boots up tho. In the last 18 months, he's probably played 10 - 15 games max. He's had an extended layoff because of his NRL ban, pre season, COVID and his injury rest.

Good shout but I can’t recall the injury, possibly a torn pectoral?? Not sure if we could of had any prior knowledge?
David Vealiki springs to mind as we knew the full extent of his injury yet still signed him as we lost out on Gasnier, meanwhile Saints get Lyon.

| Lockers wasn’t good in the Leeds semi final no doubt but he played VERY well in the Warrington game ( changed the game when he came in for a second stint in the last 20).
That along with the leadership he provides, he’s a obvious play on the bench next week if fit.

I thought we lost momentum when he came on and it was in that stint Huddersfield got back in to the game.

We probably did.
I was just purely looking at GB and saying he looked a little better than he has done previously.

| It didn't bode well when he limped ON to the field.
He was then basically anonymous in his stint and (as previously mentioned) that conincided with Huddersfield getting the upper hand.
Has to be the worst value signing (minutes/quality offered per £ spent) that we have ever made.

| As one of the directors of the club is is the club doctor Chris Brookes, surely he has a input in the medical condition and fitness of any player that the club signs for the first team squad!

Harry Smith all the way for the bench spot, he can make a difference in a good way.
Not convinced Lam will or can make that kind of a call.'"
Lenners won't allow him to make that call and that could possibly lose us the Semi or Grand Final if we get there

Genuine question here, if you give a genuine answer back please....
If Lockers was picked for the GF (assuming we get there of course) would you rather he:
A) played well we win and helped us become Champions?
Or
B) Played, had a shocker and we lost the GF and you could come on here and crow on how right you were?
Which would you prefer? And if it was A) would you hold your hand up and say that he had a decent game?

A, I have held my hand up plenty of times in the past, Just ask his best mate Phuzzy
Why would any fan want their team to lose just to prove themselves right
For me he doesn't play in any of the remaining games so the above is irrelevant

It's not irrelevant as it's possible/probable and it's the coaches decision to make that call. Fair play on choosing a) I agree, we all want to win those types of games for the greater good. I will say that with only two games left its unlikely he will be picked, then again G Burgess was (won't see him picked again this season Id expect).
Personally I wouldn't risk anyone that is less than 100% match fit next week.

Makes you wonder who’s decision that is especially when other players have struggled to be selected earlier in the year.
On a side note I think Ben Flower has been great for us and his performances deserve some recognition, his work rate has allowed the likes of Greenwood to shine, his experience of knowing what’s needed in big games is vital.

Lam's not that daft. We wont see George again this year - big question is whether we'll see him in a Wigan shirt again.

Do you think the performances of Burgess would have been a surprise to the coaching staff though? I’m no expert but surely the deficiencies we have seen during games have been apparent too in training?

I agree - really strange he was selected. I dont know what the motivation was. As someone on here said - he limped ON to the field.

The only thing I can think is that they're ignoring the evidence in front of them because they're determined not to face the reality that such a big investment is a dud. They need to though, we have to beat St Helens at some point to win the Grand Final, possibly twice. We can't afford any passengers when we face their pack.

Possibly right but as someone said above, surely it must have been apparent in training it wasn't going to work if he's limping onto the pitch.

I agree. Waste of a shirt that won't play again this season. I think my take is more likely than the denial scenario mentioned previously.
I don't think we'll get rid of GB because KR and IL can't admit that they pushed through a transfer of a crippled player, however.

I think they'd get rid if they could but it's not that easy, he's under contract and surely no one will want to take him off our hands. Maybe the best we can do is whatever physio/surgery he needs in the off season to try and get some value back out of the investment. I get the medical retirement angle but I'd imagine we need to be able to show we've done everything we can to get him back out on the pitch before we can go down that route. Plus presumably he would need to play ball. If he says he doesn't want to medically retire then maybe all the club can do is try to work with him to get him back out there.
