They need to spend that money more wisely rather than spunk it on 1 player because what happens if he’s a flop or is constantly injured? He’s gone in 2 years along with all that cash that could have really laid the foundations for Canadian rugby league.

Now you put it like that it’s a fair point, I still disagree but it’s a fair point all the same.
FWIW I agree with the second paragraph, though money isn’t an issue over there, they could spend it on building a squad capable of not just staying in SL but competing too.

I just remember Wigan going to London one night midweek, and 10,000 people turning up to watch - and that was the Martin Offiah (etc) factor.
The British game is woefully star-light at present. Even Saints, who romped to victory last year, have very few players, if any, with that Wow! factor.
Toronto, Wigan, Leeds,, wherever ... we just need some megastars back in our game.

You're absolutely right. One of the things Eddie Hearn discussed with the lack of household names in League. In most mainstream sports even people aren't of said sport can name a few names (Conor McGregor UFC, Tyson Fury/Anthony Joshua Boxing, Lewis Hamilton F1 etc) Whereas he said when people talk about names in league they mention Martin Offiah, Andy Faz etc. Young kids need names to look upto to want to be like; to drag them into the game. We need established names; SBW, Owen Faz, then to market and build our own.
Sadly I don't think the RFL have a club what to do.

And bloody good on them I say. In a mere 3yrs of existence they’ve done a world of good for the sport IMO. I really hope they have set the bar and the standard. If we had more owners with the money that David Argyle has we wouldn’t be anyone’s after thought.
But you just know that the flat cappers wanting expansion but not outside of the M62, wanting money but not to the big clubs, wanting good players but not too good will complain and complain until the RFL buckle once again.

What if your uncles your Dad?
This type of attitude holds back RL. We’ve (Super League) been doing the same thing under different banners for years. It’s got us nowhere. Toronto are doing it differently and look at the exposure RL is getting. If only we had more financial backers with vision and clout we’d be far better off as a sport.

This will not go through as there is only Wigan leeds saints wire Toronto and maybe hull with the money to spend a fortune on players, the less rich clubs won't vote it through as it wouldn't be a level playing field,on a personal level i loved it when we won everything but it just isn't healthy for the game in general plus bringing in a load of Australian and Kiwi players means that less junior players break through

I always wonder if the salary cap has put off more guys like Simon Moran, Koukash etc coming in. They’re guys with the finances to go around signing up big money players but if you can’t do it because of a salary cap what’s the point? Moran has shelled out for the two he’s allowed at Wire in Austin and Widdop but if he were allowed to sign more under the cap I’m sure he would.
The smaller clubs will always talk of an uneven comp, if big money backers come in to certain clubs but we’ve had a salary cap for years now and we’ve still only had the traditional big four clubs win the super league.
The marquee rule has helped but you do wonder what would happen if they went further. On the upside for the league the signings across the board for 2020 look exciting and it does feel like the tides turned a little bit when it comes to feeling like you’re watching a second rate product.

| Toronto have given Super League unprecedented worldwide sporting exposure over the last few days. And now on Skysports and the BBC Leicester Tigers are plying down a cross code move for Manu Tuilagi.
In 2019 - where everyone is fighting for your attention - Toronto are doing amazing work for our sport. More power to them. Keep going and let them spend what they want.
To survive Toronto need exposure. For the game to survive we need exposure.

Valentine Holmes (NFL) (that would be a shrewd move) and Manu Tuilagi are being mentioned now in the press.
Get SBW in and just imagine if they pulled off any of the above.

I think for Toronto its slightly different. They spend the big money as they have the potential to tap into a market and subsequent revenue streams that could be astronomical. They're not spending money for the fun of it, but rather because they have a vision for what they can become. Speculate to accumulate is a decent strategy for them. For English sides though it would be a risk not worth taking to start throwing the big beans around.

| Im sick to death of hearing people moaning about "oooohh we cant raise the salary cap, its not fair on clubs like Wakefield"
B0llocks to them! That's there problem, its never done Premier League football any harm. In order to have big sponsors, big TV deals and bigger attendances we NEED the biggest names playing over here. The only way to do that is to raise the cap or scrap it all together. We are being held back by the smaller clubs and it needs to stop if we want to grow the game. Fair play to Toronto, im made up with what they are doing and hopefully others follow suit.

| By all means, that the game of the ground in Canada and the USA, but to have Toronto Wolfpack in our game is a big risk which could end up in a big embarrassment for the RFL, especially with them playing games in batches of home and away fixtures.
It is so easy to pull the plug!

Say what you want about Toronto Wolfpack but their marketing team is first class (easily the best in Super League). All home games are themed to bring in more support from the local community.
Our game theme is family day and kids are free to enter.

What Toronto are doing is quietening down the flat cappers and should inspire other SL clubs to take a similar approach or develop better marketing. Toronto have the advantage of still being a relatively new sport in the city and country so intrigue will always be a huge winner on their part.
All I hope is that the AMNRL sides start to pick up some interest and develop further. I don’t mind Toronto in SL at all, I’m a huge backer of it but the long term goal must be to have a full time professional North American League so that clubs like Toronto, Ottawa, New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Jacksonville can properly grow the game over there and the game can grow as a whole with a new league and market for players and fans.
