| Come on IFL - announce Pats signed a new 2 year deal.
He is currently shopping in the Grand Arcade as ive just seen him walk past and thought 'whos this big bloke' - turned out it was Pat - Hopefully the Grand Arcade is one of the pulling factors of Wigan

| If the news is true its great for Wigan that Pat has decided to stay with the club. Not many foreign players are loyal for long in this country if playing well and I cannot honestly blame them for wanting to ply their trade back home in the best league competition.
It's even more humbling when you consider Pat has won the Super League with Wigan and taken the MOS - he could win the Challenge Cup this year and have done (nearly) everything in this country so could bow out for a new challenge on a high but (if) he has re-signed then he most truly love it here (Adopted Wiganer)

| Hope to god it's true. He's shown since he came back just how important he is to us and as I thought, due to his style of play there's been no I'll effects from his injury.
If he does sign then the guy will go up even further in ours estimations.

I seem to recall starting a thread a while back saying we were missing Pat a lot (smug mode ).
Can the legend that is Paaaaaaaat go up much further in people's estimations?

Absolutely correct.
I wont get too worked up over an article that's just hearsay, but it would leave one hell of a sour taste in the mouth if Madge had lured away Pat Richards and Brett Finch (or anyone else for that matter) whilst still head coach of Wigan. In fact if I was Ian Lenagan, I would deem that a sackable offense and send him packing right away and give Wane the job for the remainder of the season. Absolutely no room for sentiment in sport. Wigan always comes first.

| could prove to be our biggest signing next year. A points machine and mr consistent. A new coach plus in a worst case scenario losing, Finch, Deacon, Hoffman, Carmont, tommy, and then Pat could prove to be too much. Yes we have good youngsters but that is a load of experience leaving and we have shown with inconsistent performances this year that we can't rely on the youth of wigan to keep us winning trophies. The balance needs to be there to bring these youngsters through at the right pace without throwing them all in at once and expecting them to deliver titles. Pat would be a big boost with hopefully of couple of older heads coming in to keep developing the reservoir of talent with have pushing for the first team

Agreed. His resigning would soften the obvious blow of losing Deacon, Coley and Carmont. Plus the more than likely departure of Hoffman.

I am praying that Carmont and Hoffman won't have to leave. You just can't replace that talent.
We need Joel firing at centre!

| Pat staying would be huge, but we would still need some experience if as expected Deacon, Carmont & Coley go.
Thats where the signings of a centre and a halfback become key for me, we need quality and experience, not the easiest combination to get.

Not heard anything about Tommy going? Where's this come from?
Hopefully Carmont will do another year - best year in a Wigan shirt by far IMO, and I cant think of a better centre in the SL at the moment - he also looks faster than he ever has so surely he could go round again?
Other than that, can cope with losing the rest IMO - Deacon is rarely fit anyway, Finch has never really hit the straps so you cant miss what you havent had, and we have bags of talent at SR to step into Hoffman's shoes.
For me we need to keep Paat, Carmont, and Tommy (if theres any truth in him being off) above all else.

| Pretty sure the Souths Chairman won't have needed Maguire to point him in Pats direction. Proven NRL winger still under 30, form of his career in winning MoS, top try scorer, top points scorer, having just won the grand final and is OOC at the end of the year.
I'd be suprised if Souths were the only NRL club to have offered him a contract.

Would you not prefer a hooker to come in along with a centre?
Assuming players fulfill their contracts, we will still have Finch, Tommy, Mellor and Sam who can play halfback whereas we're lacking specialist hookers. Plus we miss the creative nous Riddell provided around the ruck.

| Good shout about the hooker signing. A good experienced hooker to come in for a year or two and slowly bring logan tomkins through. Or get Logan in off the bench next year and keep tommy at 7.

I still think that Carberry will be a better hooker than Logan Tomkins.

Got to disagree with the bit in red. Deacon imo was integral to our team last year and I don't think it's a coincidence that we've improved on the pitch since he returned from his injury this season. I've given Finch some stick but, as others have said, he's got proven class and this is starting to shine through, you may regret that by the end of the season. Hoffman is world class, simple as that, you can't just replace him with any other SR, he will be a huge loss.

Maybe - take the point, and we are far better with deacs, yet realistically what has he got left in him, so on that basis I would view him at far less of a loss than tommy, carmont, paat or any of the others.
Finch - yes we have seen some class there but we've managed thus far without finch so couldnt see him being a massive loss.
Hoffman - undoubtedly world class and as good as fletcher was for us IMO, however we are in the privalaged position of having far more than 'any other SR' to replace him. We have two W/c backrowers already at the club in Farrell and Tomkins, one (baring moronic decisions and brain farts) who is borderline W/c due to return, and two others in back, up HH and Tuson, who are far better than most SRs in superleague.
Therefore comparitively I think Deacon, Hoffman, or finch would be far less a loss than Richards, Carmont or Tommy, and I would sooner all three of the former go providing we dont lose any of the latter 3.
