We all now need to move on. It’s a huge week for the club and some rather unexpected silverware on offer (even if it’s just the hub cap). This week and coming weeks are huge for us as a club, for one the results will dictate Lam’s fate.'"
The badge with the castle is 10 times better than the White Walker badge, IIRC our badge was just a castle when shown on BBC in the mid 90s.
Our crest badge has been hard won and hard fought for and earned over hundreds of years. It wasn't dreamt up in a boardroom by someone who knows his way round photoshop, ours has history and was created piecemeal by Royals/Kings and we should be proud of that. I couldn't give a toss if the bloke from a kit designers thinks its too much hard work, then tough. Its who we are.

You've boycotted the club. What do you care.
By the time you come back when every player that knelt has left, we might have changed it back.

True, by that time our badge will have Kelvin the gorrila either side insted of Lions and the Edwards Pie man instead of the Castle.

Again, completely agree. The warrior (or white Walker) just looks tacky to me. The castle helps modernise the badge whilst also nodding to our heritage. Much like the Wigan Athletic badge does for them or the Man City badge for them.

I showed the new logo to my kids (5 & 6) they both love it.
After the initial shock I am starting to warm to it too, however I do think its the lack of wider consultation with all supporters which is part of the reason it has disappointed so many people.
Supporters should be made to feel part of the journey but it seems only a select few have been invited to share their views, people feel excluded enough at the moment.

| As a general design, the castle on the crest badge looks good but the whole point of the exercise is for the badge to identify with ‘Warriors.’
Leeds Rhinos have a rhino on their badge, Castleford Tigers a tiger, Catalan Dragons a dragon and Warrington Wolves a wolf.
There would be no logic at all for us to redesign our badge and have a castle as the main part of it. It’s got to be a warrior.

Dallas Cowboys are one of the most recognisable brands in sport. They don't have a cowboy.
If you can't market Wigan Rugby League Football Club with all of our history and achievements then you're in the wrong game. By all means keep the Warriors name, but that is aimed at kids, let's be honest. By all means market the name to them and stick 'Warriors' on every childs item, but if you need some clip art drawing to market this club then like I say, you're in the wrong game.

| Quote ="post"The whole 'attract a younger generation' thing is tosh aswell, you accept the existing badge and grow to love it. I remember going home from Central Park as a kid and seeing the Wigan badge on a substation just past the police station heading towards Poolstock Lane. I grew up doodling that badge in the back of my school books.
For me, there is far too much change and change for change sake. We need a cherry and white hooped shirt every season, with little change, maybe add piping, or add a black collar, make the hoops 5mm wider, then the next year 5mm narrower and thats it. Experiment with the away shirt only, every 5 years and each other time have the same shirt as the home but blue instead of cherry.
Keep the badge but modernise it slightly.'"
Exactly, it's not about attracting more younger people as you do that by having a team who are successful, a good squad of players and a better public relations with your supporters as well as consultations with supporters when you are going to make major decisions to alter the club badge and re-brand the club. Surely, it is obvious that in a Rugby mad town like Wigan, the decision is more about it being cheaper to produce replica shirts and other clothing with the new badge than what it has been to produce the more expensive Ancient & Loyal badge.
Perhaps, it would have been more acceptable to supporters if the Ancient & Lodge badge was to be kept on the playing/replica shirts, Coats, training gear etc with the the new badge on other leisure ware. I can see the point of younger supporters not wanting to go out at night wearing a item of clothing with the Ancient & Loyal badge on it.
The club in its defence has said that it has consulted supporters on the matter, but how many season ticket holders, especially those have never asked for a refund of this season's ticket were consulted.
I have been a supporter for fifty years and a season ticket holder for more or less the same time, but nobody at the club ever made contact with me.

All very well, but what happens if all the clubs who adopted a name of a person or animal at the start of Super League decide to follow the example of Wakefield Trinity who got rid of the Wildcat image.
As it stands at the moment, only six of the present eleven Super League clubs have got one of the new names namely Castleford Tigers, Catalan Dragons, Huddersfield Giants, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors. I have not included Salford as they have always been known as the Red Devils long before it was added to the name of the club.
If that happens it will mean another new badge, which would not be the case with the Ancient & Loyal badge.

Only once before have the club moved away from the traditional crest. The 1998 and 1999 Nike Shirts saw a change to a logo with a large white W.
https://www.classicrugbyshirts.com/1998 ... 2221-p.asp
Does anyone remember much supporter animosity at the time? Obviously this was in the days prior to social media, or even Internet sites back in 1998 (for most anyway).
The club soon moved back to the crest in 2000, so did low shirt sales over the two seasons affect this decision bearing in mind we went to Wembley and the grand final in 98?

| The more I see it the more it grows on me . I'm not saying it's better than the club Crest it's not. But in certainly stands out when you see it on social media wigan tv interviews etc . Its aimed at the younger age group which are more likely to be bought into buying merchandise with this badge on. Now the adult fans who are kicking off about it i understand why but arnt we being a bit blinkered and childish moaning about a badge for God's sake as long as the club do well I'm not going to get worked up over a club badge. Just my opinion of course

Where do you get we are a rugby mad town from??
I think part of the current financial issues relates to insufficient crowds and limited income streams in other areas.
I don't like the new badge but maybe I'll become indifferent to it
If the relaunch of the brand helps the club I'm ok I just thought the timing of the launch couldn't have been worse and I'm pretty amazed that IL signed off a bland and another run of the emblem you could pick off a shelf. If had to pay circa £50k or even possibly higher for these services I'd be pretty disappointed in myself.
As I've said in a previous post on reflection to change wasn't ambitious enough I suspect through via supporters who formed part of the review. The strapline Ancient & Loyal combined with The Warriors is meaningless and confusing. If we are now The Warriors we should drop the Ancient & Loyal as soon as conscience allows us.

Agreed. I love the Ancient & Loyal crest and much prefer it to the new design. I wish they hadn’t decided to meddle with it and wish the rugby powers that be hadn’t decided to meddle with most clubs’ names when the Super League era began.
I’m fully in the ‘leave it be’ camp but since IL & Co have decided upon change, I think they are right in incorporating a warrior within the badge. Nobody will be more pleased than me if the idea is shelved after one season due to the adverse reaction of our support. If not, so be it. We carry on regardless. There are much more important things to worry about.

| When did the badge actually become a thing on the shirt ?
I've posted pics of Boston and Ashton without badges on their shirts but I've also seen same players at Wembley with badges, did we roll them out for special occasions ?
Also just watched the famous Murphy rant video from '83, again no badges on the shirt.
Was it when Uncle Mo decided to go full time it became the norm ? Pretty sure we had the crest on the shirt at Wembley "84 and onwards from then.

The '83 shirts were made by Bukta and didn't have a crest on them. It was only when Umbro came along in 84' that we had badges on all shirts and supporters shirts became a big thing. We didn't even have a shirt sponsor pre 84.
Boring fact... football shirts weren't allowed to have their sponsors on when they were on TV up until 1983'ish.
