I agree. Both players are available too. Matty Bowen has stated he wants to come over to the UK (could be doing to boost his contract - accepted). Matt King is OOC and rumoured to be leaving Wire. Our backline looks awesome should they both come off (and Carmont re-signs). With Joel moving back to the back row and Hock coming back our forwards take care of themselves.
1. Matty Bowen
2. Josh Charnley (could swap him and King around)
3. Matt King
4. George Carmont
5. Pat Richards
6. Sam Tomkins
7. Brett Finch
Absolutely phenominal backline. My only concern would be replacing Carmont at centre after this year. Matty Russell is tipped for fullback. Joe Mellor could replace Finch. Ryan King to move out onto the wing. I'm not sure if we have any promising centres coming through - we'll probably have to spend.

| Quote ="cadoo"So to make that team a reality you need to pay off Amos Roberts (2012) and Darrell Goulding (2013 - who recently signed a new deal). You would get rid of a promising British forward in Ben Davies. You would put more weight on Mossop? And you would pay four large transfer fees for Scott Dureau, Keith Mason, Ben Farrar and Larne Patrick?
With respect - what planet are you on?'"
Isn't the 4th year of Roberts contract in our favour? If not I doubt he would want to spend the entire year in the reserves.
Goulding is a funny one as he hasn't done it for me and I have made myself clear about that, I rate Charnley and Marsh as better prospects and if I am to believe a lot of posters on here we have another speedy winger on the verge of the team also, I can't be that wrong with Goulding as why is a 2nd row preferred to him at centre?
I don't rate Ben Davies either, Ive seen him quite a few times and looks too much over weight and isn't in the same league as Prescott or O'Carroll, even playing in NL1 he hasn't set the world alight for me.
Larne Patricks deal ends 2012 and Mason 2015, Im sure if we offered players aswell as cash something could be done. Fielden is no spring chicken and Lima is a liability sometimes and with Coley retiring we need a proven SL prop with plenty of experience. Realistically there isn't anyone off contract who is top quality, there are only a hand full of Britsh props I would want at Wigan - Burgess, Morley, Mason, Lynch and maybe Scruton. He wanted to sign for Wigan in 2006 but due to Whelan and McMannus the deal never went through.
Farrars contract ends 2012, with him being 24 he coud be our right centre for years to come, Matt King only a stop gap for a season or 2 max.
Scott Dureau or Chase speak for themselves, I would prefer Chase TBH and have Finch at halfback organsing and kicking and Chase taking the line on.

| For next season:
Bowen
Charnley King Carmont Richards
Sam Finch
Lima Tommy Fielden
Hock Tomkins
Lockers
------------
That could be the starting 13.
Over time Russell the replace Bowen, Joel to replace Carmont or Possibly Acton etc.
Mellor to replace Finch. Mossop to be the new Fielden.
With this we have: Faz Hansen poss Hoffman Tuson King Marsh for cover.
Integrate youngsters when possible.
Coley to retire. Goulding Pryce Roberts to make room on the cap.

Didn't we sign a Southern lad for the Academy a few months back?

| Goulding had a good year last year but, imo, that was mainly on the back of Gleesons play (ala Gardener over the last 6(?) years). is he worth a spot next year, who knows? i would certainly pick Charnley over him
As for Famous Amos, i havent a feckin clue whats happened to him!

| Did anyone see the Cowboys v Warriors game this morning?
How good is Shaun Johnson! Played scrum-half and reminded me of Stacey Jones.

Maloney is another good player in that team.

Already, with half a season's experience behind him, playing on 2 different wings and having 3 different centre partners, Charnley is the better winger.
Defensively, i just don't think Goulding is in his league, and Josh seems a lot stronger bringing the ball out too.

I think he's better at centre, personally, but he's certainly big and strong enough to play in the pack. Pacy, good handling skills, very good in the air defensively...just still very raw. Excellent prospect, but probably not for a couple of years yet. If he keeps developing as he should, he could be another Joel Tomkins!

Are we determined to let any back with any considerable amount of size to move up to the second row? Is it any wonder we struggle to produce backs - most notably centres - in this country.
I'm sure towards the latter end of his Wigan career Thornley was being pushed up into the back row. Ridiculous. We've an abundance of second row forwards at the club. We're crying out for a centre.

He needs to sort himself out Roberts for the sake of his career. He looks completely demoralised from playing in the academy for so long now. A shadow of the Jarryd Hayne-esque freak performances he was putting in at the start of the 2010 season. His confidence, focus and determination just doesn't seem to be there.
I don't have an answer to this problem - but something needs to happen. Just get him out of the U20's. He is rotting away and his confidence/moral must be absolutely shot. A short term loan deal somewhere - anywhere.

| Mentioned Jean Phillip Baile a couple of months ago, not sure when he's contracted til but he's been going very well and had a good season last year. Think he'd be a better option and would cost a lot less than King, only 24, can play on the wing too I think.

Those players are well established super league competitors who have already contributed to a super league winning season. What's not too like? What the hell are you expecting?'"
You can say what you please Bill, that is not an "amazing" bench. Likeable yes, amazing 100% no.

I would sign either Mason or Patrick from Hudds (would require a transfer fee), Ben Farrar and either Rangi Chase or Scott Dureau.

I agree with the Keith Mason idea, but there is one major problem with that.
You will not get Hock/Mason/Fielden playing in the same side. Hock and Fielden hate Mason and Mason hates them.

IMHO Ben Davies does not look like filling his potential. When I've seen him on TV he just doesn't look up to it.
