| Nobody knows the full facts about this rumoured signing. it may only be for a season until we have the fielden money to play with.
It also may not even happen now we have Hocks wages available for 2 seasons so we now can look at better quality.
But i also believe the packs stronger with Griffin in than O'Carroll at this moment in time. A years loan would do him no harm and he would come back a better player. I REALLY RATE O'CARROLL BTW. but with fielden being 15% the player he was we cant play both O'Carroll and prescott just yet.
Fielden
Feka
rumoured import
Prescott
Griffin
Is IMO stronger than this season

| If we signed 2 props for next year and kept Coley Fielden would only be my 6th choice prop tbh and he'd have to play very well to get a place in the 17 when everyone is fit.
The thing is with Fielden once that motivation is there to earn a new deal or a deal with another club i expect to see a totally different player.
He could be like a new signing in himself.

| If Griffin and a top class NRL prop are coming to Wigan then the pack could well be sorted after a number of years being underpowered.
Last week there was a rumour put on here that a brother of a current player may be signing. Chris Bailey was the most touted with Leon Pryce a very distant second and last.
If the club could announce the signings soon and say that's all that we are bringing in, we could put the "signings for next year" to bed and concentrate on this year.
That could help the team and the club!

I see what you're saying, but as far as English players go, there are only 5 on that list (Carvell being Welsh). Morley is 32, Peacock is 32 later this year and Andy Lynch is 30.
As a club we need to be looking at the best English players that are available and with Griffin having just turned 28 he should be entering his prime as a forward should the experts be believed.

If we sign 2 props and keep Coley, Bailey is going and Coley is moving to the 2nd row to help replace Hock.

No one is saying they want Griffin as our main prop signing but IF we sign a top Aussie prop AND Griffin it will be a good piece of Business as Griffin will only be playing as our 4th choice prop.
As far as I can see in the league there are very few fourth choice props who are better than him imo (Bailey at Leeds is gash as is Hargreaves etc).
I’d liken his signing to that of Fozzard at Saints as no one ever rated him but he’s a tough no nonsense guy who will rattle some feathers which is what we desperately need.
But then some fans will never be happy and think we can sign superstars in every position.'"
I'm not missing the point at all. Griffin offers nothing different to what we've already got that has underachieved over the last few years. We gain nothing so what's the point? We need to move forward and we won't do that with Griffin. We can't sign superstars in every position but we need to add better than what we've got. THAT'S THE POINT.

Griffin stats show he doesn't make the yards of the key forwards we already have and his marker defence makes Feka look like a workaholic

add to that he is cocky and arrogant as well as an average player and theres a pretty good picture of the guy

i personally think that's what we're missing in our pack to be honest. We've no-one who's going to get in the faces of the opposition, Peacock does it, Morley can do it for wire etc etc

A good example of the sort of crap that regularly gets generated among Wigan fans. You only need to mention that an Aussie star is being tapped by another SL club, and we're in uproar; the fact that we're not after him too is a sure sign that we've now accepted mediocrity as the norm, and as such are doomed to mid-table oblvion from now on ... even though the player in question was never ever going to the other SL club (Bradford in Wing's case, unless I'm mistaken).
If anyone wants proof, check the other forum where, now that Wing is out of the picture, the accusation has already been made that we're crap because Karmichael Hunt is apparently unsettled and we've not gone straight in for him.
As if there's ever any chance of players like Hunt and Wing coming to SL.

If you pay silly money you can get nearly anyone, but I think that'll be the exception rather than the rule. And it certainly won't be happening at Wigan again.

| I don't consider Griffin a better option than O'Carrol. I'd rather we kept O'Carrol and worked on him becoming a better player for less wages than bringing in Griffin who offers little more than Coley.
Considering most people have pointed out Coley should be moving on and we should be investing in props that are better.
I'd consider this signing a panic signing to appease restless fans. In the long run can bite us in the . Whereas we should have brought in a decent prop for next season and gained another 1 or 2 once Fielden's contract ran out we now bring in mediocracy for next season to go along potential signings once Fielden goes.
Just treading water with this type of signing. Griffin would b e a savvy signing if we had little money on the cap, but with Smith/Hock potentially Bailey/Coley leaving we have plenty to work with and if griffin is the result i'm not impressed.

Yes imagine us trying to sign one of the best props in the comp. Why would we want to do that?!
He has been outstanding this year and pretty good for the last few he gets better every year, for me a certainty for England come the end of the year.

Griffin's key stats for a prop show that he isn't better than what we've got. O'Carroll is also contracted until 2011 after signing a new contract last season.
We don't need a 5th prop we need a 1st one. The rest of the props apart from Coley are all contracted for next season and as I've already said if we are only changing like for like there's no point. If we can move one of the contracted props on we need to be signing someone a lot better than Griffin.

Good signing for them you don't see many six year deals, I don't think anything other than a stupid amount of money would have got Crabtree away from the Giants the guy obviously loves it there, and I admire his loyalty to stick with them.

You get the impression sometimes that unless a player is an Australian test regular, some people will never be happy with any signing.
Crabtree is an extremely good prop who may turn into a great one. Credit to him I say for commiting to his home town club.

| Leaving the prop situation a side for a minute, it looks like we may have dodged a bullet in Thorman, looks like the guy's possibly off to the Bull's thank god for that, now all we need is someone to snap up Johnson and we'll have dodged another.

I remember us being linked with Crabtree a couple of years back and some questioning his ability yet now he's kicked on and he's a class act people slate us for not going for him.
The point i'm trying to make is that sometimes the club will have to sign players on potential and not current ability. If the club want to sign a player like Griffin for example because they feel he's got improvment in him then thats good and in a couple of years time we may look back and say what a great peice of business it was.
As a club we need to improve our record of taking players on and improving them. The best teams like Saints and Leeds do it and we need to start doing the same.
