I just don't see how once again someone can complain about their view being questioned whilst saying they should be allowed to express their opinion.
No one is stopping you, go ahead, but don't make out that anyone defending or someone with a different opinion is stopping you from having your own.
FWIW
Whilst at Wire 2020/21 and then subsequently throughout the time his future was up in the air early 2021 I wouldn't have rated him more than maybe a 7 or 7.5 out of 10 player, and he was after 9/10 type wages
Nothing since has changed my view
Hes been in a poor environment though imo and maybe 6months at Hudds, and a pre season at Wigan we can maybe get an 8/10 player or more whilst only paying a proportion of that wage?'"
I have zero issues with opinions that differ from my own. In fact, I actually enjoy a good debate. As an example, I like & respect your logic on the last bit of your post. I'm still not 100% convinced on the signing and I do think it benefits Wire long term, but that's just differing opinions, of which you make some sound ones.
What I'm taking umbrage about is the position of shooting down opinions without any alternatives, or reason being put forward (not always you btw). The default position of "maybe the club know what they are doing", or "who are we to judge", "IL is a business man, he knows best" etc grate my gears tbh. It's simplistic and quite frankly worrying that people just automatically fall on the side of the club.
I'll always take the opinion that - If you agree with a decision the club makes, then say why you agree with it (like you have done here), who knows you might win someone over with your argument etc. Just saying you agree with it because the club does isn't a debate, it's borderline fundamentalism.

| A good signing.
If King and Wardle are our centres next year I'll be very happy.
As for the loan and finances. It is obvious that Powell doesn't want him at Wire, no doubt King equally doesn't want to be at the HJ either.
Our assumption that Wire are paying part of King's salary could well be right given the reputed size of his deal.
If King is successful at Wigan I can't see him wanting out.

Not disagreeing
But on the but in bold
End if the day we are all agreeing/disagreeing with others with maybe 10/20% of the overall k lnowledge of most subjects, on usually topics that that have subjective answers and there is on right/wrong answer.
I knew about the King deal this time last week
Did it blow.me away, no, do I see the merits based on the info I do know, Yeah, I'm OK with it.
But at the end of the day nothing we think etc changes much, we can discuss, and personally I hop I do in most instances try and explain myself
The last 10months or so have Been a breathe of fresh air, and I trust that the whole backroom team have done their due diligence, the club have worked the finances out so as to get the best bang for their buck to suit the whole squad and to be honest I think we have to trust them given the advances made this season.
If this was the final piece of a jigsaw I wouldn't be overjoyed
I believe that it isn't and if the Wardle deal is done (whichbi have been told it has and no reason to believe otherwise) I'd be over the moon, even if French is going (which I am realistic about, but not without hope the ub may be able to pull that off).

| Quote ="Jukesays"If Wigan sign him on a permanent deal there is a question of possible transfer fee (or Wire may negate that just to get him off the books) and definitely paying his full contract amount.
This gives Wigan the flexibility of working with the player on a reduced wage with no commitment if things don't work out as they hoped, or, in Pole position if they did.
He will not go back to Wire no matter what unless BIG changes happen at Wire, its not like were going to turn him into Gene Miles and then gift wrap him back to Wire no questions with a 100% guarantee that suddenly he's going to turn Wire into a championship winning team
There'll be ongoing discussions through the next 12 months to decide where he'll ne going 2024 with him, his agent, Wire and Wigan and a number of other clubs.
I just can't get my head around anyone thinking this somehow improves Wire, it smacks of desperation on their part and they're backed into a corner with one of their highest earners.
Anyone can express their view that he's a terrible or a great player.
Anyone can express their opinion that it will be a good or bad deal
I just don't see how once again someone can complain about their view being questioned whilst saying they should be allowed to express their opinion.

Agree with all this. Somebody mentioned it to me on the Wire board last week and i said i think there is a good player in there but i wouldn't want him here but................. if he comes with Wardle (and iv'e noted your confidence that is a done deal) im more than happy with that. Wardle and King is better than Wardle and Isa. If our coaching staff can't get anything out of King, we lose nothing and he goes back to Warrington. If he wants to be a winner then he has to kuckle down. I am also happy that we will be seemingly phasing KPP out if he is leaving anyway. Why should we improve players for nowt so that Newcastle knights can come and just take them fully developed. Have a feeling KPP will be let go early. Please, please, please just tie French down. that would do me. If 2 centres and French re-signing is all we do i will be happy.

I can get onboard, or at least see your perspective, as it's reasonable and rational. Like you said there's no right, or wrong opinion. I'd actually have preferred him on a proper deal Vs a loan, but your OP raised valid arguments as to why that ain't possible, or the best option.
Btw, as it's on the same kinda subject and one to highlight the wider issue I was making... i've just read the other sites opinions on the signing. I'm not the biggest fan of King, but hopefully I've put forward reasons as to why I think what I do. On there it's just baseless stuff like "on the cheap", or "not Wigan standard" without any rationale behind those opinions. That's what gets at me.

| Problem here is that we are all making assumptions when the club haven't as yet shown all their hand for 2023 when it comes to the comings and goings.
KR has previously stated that the club conducts all its recruitment business in July. The club has been exceedingly quiet on that front this year, perhaps the ongoing French saga has delayed things?
We know the club normally likes to wrap its movements up in a package communication over one day (especially if a star player is on the way out and new signings are announced to reduce supporter disappointment).
No mentions as yet on French, Bibby, Tommy L futures as yet suggests similar will happen shortly.

| I do have to say this also, at the risk of ire from the Wire lot. They wanted King out and have for ages because he was a problem, just as Cooper was, just as Briers was. Here is the difference. When we take personnel from Warrington it's because we can use them. When Warrington take players from us it's because they are desperate and we don't want them (Nicholson excluded) Cooper has come in and started like only Mike Cooper can, he is just a fantastic forward who is miles better than anything Warrington have at the moment and miles better than anyone they have signed to replace him. They wanted rid of Briers who has come in here after 3 utterly appalling seasons under Lam and completely transformed out attack in 1 pre-season (he Will be badly missed) and now we have taken King, if Peet thinks he can eek out more in him then he probably will.
I find it funny that Powell has gone into Warrington and all of a sudden there are a load of bad eggs. Funnily enough all the local lads. King and Cooper would have come here, Seen Matty Peet who has won a major trophy in his maiden season, Shaun Wane would have been there, the halls decked with silverware and honours and the whole place screams of serial winners. Powell and Sheridan are serial losers, the historical standards at Wigan should get the maximum out of any player.

Just said on a WhatsApp to another poster on here that the other boards response (75% of it) to this is just the usual glass half full, blame the club, blame IL,blame Sam Powell, we know better based on hypothetical assumptions and very little evidence or fact Rubbish
I also said I don't know why I do it to myself!
I went over thinking that maybe, just maybe, there may be some positivity- How wrong I was!

| Quote ="jonh"King won’t play for Powell.
Let’s not forget how good King has been up until recently at Wire, and is playing well at Hudds.
If Powell gets binned next year I’ve no doubt King will be back at Wire in 24 to see out his contract.
I think this is a fantastic signing personally unless things have changed in the last week or so Wardle and King are our starting centres for next season.
That is a huge improvement on anything we have had for a long time.
It’s all well and good saying we could let him stay at Wire to eat up their cap but there would be others coming in for him so that would never happen.
He is a top notch young British centre.
Only downside for me is it probably means one of Bevan or KPP possibly both will be in the NRL in 23. I just can’t see how we can manage all those players under the cap unless we have got King for an absolute steal.'"
Assuming Wardle signs, and I know you are 100% confident of that, who plays right centre given they both play on the left?

All King`s salary for 2023 will be imposed on Wigan`s Salary Cap, not Warrington`s, even though Warrington will probably be making a significant contribution.

| My only worry with King is that I’ve only seen his very best consistently when he wanted a new deal at Wire or a good deal elsewhere. There have been other flashes here and there but it was that season in 2021 that showed what he’s capable of but also asked questions as to why he’d not hit that level before.
On the upside, there’s clearly a really good centre there when motivated and hopefully he will be just that at a new club.

King is a right centre not a left, both can play both although Wardle much prefers the left.
King is a natural right side who is comfortable on the left.

Why would you think that?
Surely he will just come back to Huddersfield- his parent club where he is still contracted for next season!!!!
The only reason he was loaned out in the first place is because leutele was the in form centre in the comp and Leroy and Jerry are such a good partnership together. Wardle wasn’t getting the game time he wanted in a World Cup season and so was loaned to wire to get game time. It wasn’t expected king would feature much at centre, perhaps cover at second row. Ironically the week the deal was struck leutele was injured in an off the ball incident, if wardle had hung on a week he’d have been playing in a top 3 side instead of a bottom three side.
Perhaps it’s taught him some patience.
If he has signed for you He’s shown poor form given how we looked after him when he was injured for two years.

I don't think the poster is on their own thinking that, maybe a rumour but folk think Wardle has a problem with the coaching staff at Huddersfield - if this is off the mark then fair point.

Wardle and Watson don’t see eye to eye on his position and the side of field he should play on.
The relationship has totally broken down.

If you are going to be a side that challenges, you will have to get used to that. Look at the players we lose to the NRL every season. We are just higher up the food chain than Huddersfield, the NRL uses Wigan as it's hunting ground.

| The usual criticism of a signing before he even pulls on a shirt I see. Have we found our scapegoat for 2023? Nobody has any idea how he will go for us and there are plenty of examples in history where you think one thing will happen with a signing and it's the absolute opposite.
The loan deal is strange in that it's not done often, but if Wire want him out and we feel he may do well then why would we not be in for him? I don't see him playing for Wire again unless major changes happen there and I suspect we will have the first chance at signing him permanent after this loan. Clubs don't let players rot away in a SC sport.
Rather than look at why we would take a player from Warrington on loan and send him back a better player etc...why would they send a player on loan to Wigan and possibly improve Wigan? They thought highly enough of him to offer him a mega deal and suddenly he's off to the horrible club down the road on loan. More to that than some are seeing definitely.

I didn’t realise until today Wire shifted King from his natural side on the right to the left side at the start of the 21 season
. Prior to that he had predominantly been a right sided player only very occasionally playing on the left usually covering for injuries.
It’s interesting to note the criticism of his impact started in 21, which coincided with his move out of his natural position and just after he signed this big contract that seems to be attributed to some for his loss of form.

I have no issue with players moving on- it’s a short career- but they can at least do us the service of seeing out their current contract first without crying they aren’t getting picked! Wardle didn’t play for over two years, other clubs would have dumped an academy player in that situation, we didn’t, we gave him a contract whilst he was injured to enable him to continue his rehab, and then another at the end.
The reason he hasn’t played much this season is because he got injured (yet again) and someone else took the shirt. He was given the chance to shine in another position and didn’t take it. If what you say is true about the fall out then that’s down to him and his attitude so again poor form.
Contrast to pryce who has been the name on everyone’s lips, hasn’t been getting picked, including missing out on the final etc and has had offers but is doing the decent thing by seeing out his contract next season before moving on.

He wasn’t an academy player though. He was a first team player at the age of 18 and anyone that had seen him as a junior knew the potential he had.
Let’s not pretend Huddersfield we’re giving a kid a contract out of the goodness of their heart. They were signing him up despite injury because of his undoubted potential and in the knowledge if they didn’t and let him go someone else would sign him if he became available.
I know the reason as to why he has fallen out with Watson, but I’m shocked it has lead to his departure from the club. Maybe it’s Watson trying to set an example in the same way Powell has at Wire which have resulted in some departures.
