| It’s a huge moment in the history of the club, so I can see why it’s there. It’s a brave call to position it like that, in some sort of Batman cartoon style and they may have been wiser to do it with Flower head in hands walking off but it’s the clubs choice.
If only all the people whose pi*s it’s boiling on forums and social media would give praise when the club goes out of its way to celebrate opposition players milestones or show support to guys like Rob Burrow and Jack Johnson, I’d give their opinions more consideration.

A valid point.
Sinfield and Burrow are on there, but that gets no mention.

| Quote ="Th'Observer"I personally wouldn't have included it but there we are.
Am I right in thinking Hohaia had concussion issues prior to that Grand Final? I think the punches may have exacerbated those issues but then he played on after for half a season? In some cases that half season was under sufferance too being "forced" to play and being encouraged to take pain meds to get through.
Saints themselves weren't exactly squeaky clean when it comes to the aftermath of the incident.
Despite all that, I reiterate the fact that I personally wouldn't have included it. It gets replayed a lot. RL/Wigan/That final got a ton of coverage because of it but yeah it shouldn't have been included for me.'"
Lance was regularly knocking himself out because he could never get his head in the right place. Having watched his entire career, I refuse to beleive it was solely due to the Flower incident.

Yes he already had concussion issues. He didn't even retire. He played on and then used the incident as an excuse for retiring. He was still as cr@p after the incident as he was before it but it was an easy out to blame that. I suppose Goulding et al who are trying to sue the RFL are all Wigan's fault in some sort of guise too. I do love this self indulgent, houlier than thou attitude other sides have when it comes to Wigan. Just makes it all the sweeter.
I am the same as you, i re-iterate that i wouldn't have had it in too, but, hey ho, it is. There are real issues in the world at the minute. People are dying because of war in the Ukraine. People are dying of famine in Africa and Asia, the country is being driven into poverty and someone has drawn a cartoon in Wigan.

That's something which I forgot to include on my original post in this thread.
It's otherwise a superb image. Overall it's great and it's different. Opposition fans can see that and they'll look for the slightest chink in the armour so to speak to detract from the fact it's a great piece of artwork which the club can be very proud of.
EDIT - It also has a Leigh flag on it, oh dear. I retract the above. Great idea but poor execution seemingly.

For what it’s worth I’ve had my say on twitter today and I don’t agree with it. But I have said the piece on the whole is fantastic and the fan zone itself is a fantastic concept which looks to be thriving. 14,000 for a game v Toulouse is a great effort and it’s off the back of the community work Wigan have been putting in since Peet took over.
I’m surprised Wigan have included it. They’ve made quite a clear and obvious effort to clean up their perceived image with fans and the media and for me this goes against that. There’s quite a large backlash on social media from fans of all clubs (including your own) and for me it’s a bit of an own goal.
I’ve seen Wigan fans say “oh well it’s part of our history why should we ignore it.” Well it’s simple, I don’t think you need to celebrate or glorify certain incidents. The equivalent is Saints having a piece of art like this and showing Sean Long walking into a bookies. That would be tasteless and would get a hugely negative reaction from many on here no doubt and I would personally be a bit embarrassed.
Like I said it’s a great concept, a clever piece of work in many ways but the club have slightly taken the gloss off it by including that incident and unfortunately all the talk is now about Flower and Hohaia and not all the other fantastic memories on there.

Let's cut to the chase and call it what it is - people are saying they don't like it, because it's an easy shot to take a Wigan. Frankly, the majority of the g!imps moaning about it, don't really care about LOH. They just want to stick the knife into and this is an easy shot to take.
Massive own goal by the club as they didn't need to include it. That being said, the 'outrage' is laughable. Loads of people complaining about a cartoon on a wall in a club they don't support. Get a life FFS.

| The same artist has done a Man U one and it includes Cantonas kung fu kick. It's part of history. The Wigan one includes Barry Macs "tackle" on Sironen, Farrell and Scully fighting, Tyrer being carried off after Hepworths assault, It happened as much as I wish it hadn't it's part of a history.
However if you look at that montage it's a very, very, very small part of it.

Well said.
A Saints fan crying foul about an incident that handed them the title on a plate.
Perhaps we should also have included Gareth Hock 'deliberately' throwing the ball at the little girl 20 rows back in the Saints stand, which McManus said he would personally investigate (and never mentioned again). What a joke.

| To be fair one of the authors on Redvee has completely gone against the grain and stated on twitter that he has no issue with the inclusion and that previous Mish-mash works from other clubs have included incidents good and the not so good.

I think you are entirely missing the point, it was a violent act of thuggery on a player unconscious and defenceless. Flower served his ban showed remorse and gradually it received less attention over the years.
The Wigan culture and structure under Peet has been a good one this year and as a result their has been an element of respect in the direction they are going.
Then suddenly this poster was revealed and approved by the club recycling the incident as though it’s some sort of cartoon joke with the narrative KLONK. I,m quite suprised the way it has been presented.

Also includes a player breaking his leg.
Ours includes Phil Bentham with a broken leg. Maybe we shouldn't have included that either.

I love that. As if you were all doing us a favour, and now suddenly we've let you down.
Give your head a wobble.
Gaining the respect of those who dislike us is not Wigan's responsibility. When we were the best team on Earth and beat Brisbane in Brisbane, we got minimal respect back here.
The fans know which way the club's going. They don't need the opinions of others. And they certainly don't need rival fans telling them what they can and can't hang on the wall in their own clubhouse.

Let's put this one to bed. Hohaia was NOT unconscious when the 2nd punch was thrown. You don't move your arms when you're unconscious. He may have been prone but he was not unconscious. It doesn't make the incident any less distasteful but I'm getting sick of these narratives somehow becoming the 'truth'.

| I've had my say on it now and it seems to have divided opinion, some Wigan fans agreeing with me and some don't. I even said on this thread that Wigan have done some classy things of late which is what surprised me given the work that Peet is doing on and off the field to improve the culture.
The image itself without the "KLONK" to accompany it wouldn't have been anywhere near as bad as it was an iconic moment in the history of the game, indeed that clip generated more views on You Tube than any other RL one. Also to those celebrating how good his punch was, that's also in poor taste in my opinion, its like a middleweight fighting a heavyweight. We all know Hohaia started it but he is half the size of Flower so any gloating seems a bit weird to me.
I'm no snowflake, I enjoyed the 2004 biff with Sculthorpe and Farrell as much as anyone else, two blokes the same size going for it.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that two of the posters on Red Vee have received permanent bans for their comments on Newton. The majority of decent Saints fans don't hold the same opinions as those posters so they will be no great loss. There are some decent posters on there (I'd like to think I'm one of them) so I just wanted to point this out.

Good to hear this last part Stu. RedVee has been an unbridled cesspit for some time and bans should have been handed out years ago. Some of the Terry Newton comments were disgraceful (and possibly actionable under recent social media legislation). Whatever people's opinions in the artwork, that sort of response is totally unacceptable.
