If Havard is back then I would assume it will be limited game time even though we know he's capable of long minutes. The slack will need to be taken up elsewhere. Partington will no doubt feature. What a tool. They literally are just devoid of brains some of these players. I’m more frustrated with that than the Ellis incident. I can accept somebody losing their head in the heat of the moment but Singleton knows he can’t do that and is that slow getting to Pearce that he could’ve pulled out three times over.

I can’t even be bothered defending him by saying it’s a love tap and I don’t see a great deal of flexion of the head/spinal column or whatever it is they’re looking at (even though that’s all true) because he just knows he can’t do it.

Pathetic from both of them; could easily see us get knocked out of the cup whilst they are on the sideline.

it *is* a love-tap, though? Two matches for that? Not to say it's not poor from Singleton. We wouldn't have been there if they hadn't penalised Powell for a challenge on the kicker, which the discip thought was OK.

I don't know why it's taken as a given that suspending players is the best mode of punishment. Feels like a punishment to the viewer as much as anyone and also puts clubs in a horrible position if they're already dealing with an injury crisis.

If you ignore the off season (for obvious reasons) it's Singleton's 3rd ban, totalling 7 games, in the space of just over 4 months of rugby. He's a liability and I'm not sure his performances make up for that. He can be a good player at his best but he rarely seems to be at his best.

Ellis will probably get 5 games. I have a little more sympathy for him. He lost his head and it's happened to plenty of players before him, but he'll have to be squeaky clean for the rest of the season.

I think Ellis will be the one we miss the most. He's been quiet but hard working. I think he's our best metre making prop and our top tackling prop. Maybe not a world beater but he definitely helps the players around him.

You have to give both players the same ban and against Stains Dudson did exactly what Ellis did and only got 3 matches and he's got a shocking disciplinary record,Wigan might as well appeal the grading the worst they can do is make it 6 matches

So Ellis get 5 and the guy who started it all gets 3.
So smashing your elbow into a players face when he's prone on the floor is less an offence than the fella who punches him on the nose.
For decades the idea that the perpetrator gets suffers worse than the the victim is part of the stupidity of rules and laws compared to natural justice.

I watched the incident again yesterday and the only reason I can see for Dezaria getting less is that his aim wasn’t as good.

Shambles of a call. I’ve no issue with the 5 for Ellis but how he gets less is beyond me.

Retaliation is always a stiffer charge these days. For me Dezaria 2 games and Ellis 3 games for a bit of biff. If Ellis broke a players jaw then thats a different matter.

Pretty obvious that one guy plays for Wigan and the other guy doesn't.

But they both retaliate?

Ellis retaliates to an elbow dropped in his face (just watched it again and if we’re trying to rid dangerous acts from the game they’ve got one right there) and punches him once and Dezaria retaliates to that and throws two punches back.

So one punch=5 games

One elbow drop and two punches=3 games

I honestly cannot believe he’s got less in this case. I don’t buy in to it being a Wigan thing, or believe there is any bias towards one club or the other but they seem to have such a rigid system and it’s clearly not working. You connect with a punch so you get more games. You throw once punch that lands, retaliating to one elbow drop and two punches (all that don’t really connect seriously) and you get more all because you happened to be more accurate. It’s like they’re scoring amateur boxing.

Wigan will surely be looking for an explanation on this one. The whole game deserves some sort of explanation.

You've done a far better job in breaking down how the incident unfolded and you can see the logic and thought process behind what you've said. You can also add in that Ellis, as a new signing, has zero baggage with the judiciary too.

So again, what else can it be?

I genuinely just think they’ve pinned him based on his punch being more accurate and their guidelines are too rigid on how they will grade things and don’t allow for a subjective overlook of the ‘whole’ incident. You connect with one punch and you’re getting a longer ban then not really connecting with an elbow drop and two punches. It’s farcical but I can’t think what else it can be.

I look at that incident as a whole and say to Ellis ‘you should keep your head and just have a bit of push and shove if you like’ and because he hasn’t he cops 5 games and that’s not a concern but I would be saying to Dezaria ‘you caused it, you dropped your elbow on Ellis, you then retaliate to his punch, with two of your own and regardless of them connecting you’re getting at least the same’ (and if anything it should be more).

As I said before the bans looked to be based on judging a boxing match, as much as it is on who did what and what their intentions were. Ellis wins on points and his reward is a longer ban.

Both should receive the same ban for the fight, but Dezaria should also be getting an additional 1-2 for dropping the elbow on a grounded opponent as well.
