| I'm at work and not had much chance to look into him, does he kick goals? Assume not, nobody had said anything I can see.

There are plenty of options in various positions as things stand and that’s good to have. The squad does look to have had a real freshen up and us as fans and even better, opposition teams/coaches are probably a little bit in the dark as to what to expect from some of the new guys. I’m sure opposition teams will have access to plenty of footage but there’s nothing quite like having seen opposition players in the flesh and on numerous occasions.
We’ll see how we go. It may not be big household names we’ve brought in but on the face of it, the positions we needed to address have been.

Doesn’t look to. I think his stats showed he’d kicked one in the NSW cup.
That probably puts him in as our second choice to be fair.

I see Joe Shorrocks as our future loose tbh, Bateman deserves the shirt for the respect side of things and the SL history of it, but i would prefer to keep him in 2nd row. I would like Joe Shorrocks to start getting more time there and making it his position, think he has earned that from last season imo.
Willie Isa drops out, great servant and a workhorse he is, but we should be looking to the future from here on out, should have been let go of by now for me.
Added singleton to the starting lineup for experience in the front row to start games, also Ellis seems typically come off the bench from what i have seen of him, could have been a pecking order thing to be fair.
Tommy doesn't go around again for me, may be too late for that now it has all been agreed, he is cover / experience in the reserves for those coming through the system.
Bevan French
Abbas Miski
Zak Hardaker
Jake Bibby
Liam Marshall
Cade Cust
Harry Smith
Brad Singleton
Sam Powell
Patrick Mago

------------
Jai Field
Kaide Ellis
Kai Pearce Paul / Ethan Havard / Liam Byrne / smithies (On a rotation - who is training / performing better)
Oliver Partington (if underperforming add to above rotation)

| Just had a look at him on YouTube, he has a great short kicking game with a few grubbers from ten metres out. At best it will gain us some tries or repeat sets from this massively underused tactic. At worst we hand possession over a metre or so from their own line.
That will do for me.

And a scouting process that now looks to start and end with Woolf calling up his Tongan mates and seeing who fancies it.

To be honest and this is something else to lay at the feet of Lam - why didn:t he do the same with some of the PNG boys? By all accounts he's an idol over there. Surely there must have been some flying PNG winger that we could have signed? A team struggling for go forward and a nation known for big and powerful wingers.

Possibly but I suppose the Tongan lads aren’t actually Tongan natives and most (probably all) weren’t born there, so they’re NRL experienced players and as much as I jest, teams like Saints will know plenty about them. I’m not sure how close Lam would be to the PNG lads, certainly the ones who play in PNG and the PNG side isn’t rammed full of NRL quality, like the Tongans are.
Plus if Lam signed a halfback he’d play him on the wing and he’d play a winger at scrum half, so it was probably for the best.

| Thank god for that. I think though that this means either French or Field are leaving though rather than Tommy retiring. Seems pointless having one of those on the bench or not in the 17. Maybe Field but nobody has seen anything of him so it isn't a loss that we know of. He might be a superstar but it might not be here.
Please, please, please sign a top centre now and i will be a happy man.
If you think back to when we bought the title every season back in the 90s (although we didn't) Other teams were picking up real bargains. Maybe if we could find a gem like Paul Newlove like Saints did we would be ok. he didn't cost that much did he Wolve boy?

| I honestly have never really noticed him in the NRL however I’ve sat and watched a few videos of him this afternoon.
Now I appreciate these are highlight reels etc so it’s tough to make a judgement however a few things stand out.
He looks technically very good.
2 hand carry, steps off both feet and can pass off both hands.
Looks to have an excellent short kicking game.
Looks comfortable taking on the line and quite explosive.
Looks a bit of a maverick who plays with his eyes up. I think this is great I just hope he is able to play that way.
I’m not blowing my beans over the signing but I do think he looks promising.

You missed Ben Barba, like I said on another post we might/have signed NRL players who haven't lived up to expectations but I can't ever recall us signing someone who so blatantly threw the towel in when he thought he'd got a contract back home

Carney played injured in his last year at Wigan.
That’s often forgotten given his performances prior to that and the lack of impact he had in his last year.

He did have injuries which earned him the nickname 'biscuit' but in those final half a dozen games for us he was literally a shell of the player he had formerly been with us.

The same could be said by Wigan supporters about the departure of Jackson Hastings!
A message from French that he is coming back would give many supporters even more confidence!

I'd say most Wigan fans wish him well back home, whilst he didn't help bring us much success he can't be faulted for his efforts. He goes home with a leaders shield and two grand final appearances to look back on. I think most Wiganers don't expect him to come back to the UK later in his career and if he does probably may choose Salford again?
I agree that with French even if the club posted an image of him training in the gym with a snippet saying he can't wait to get back, this would go some way. Whilst we do know some details around his family issue, one thing we don't know how serious it currently is
.. final stages and would have to respect that if it was... Etc.
