| Quote ="sergeant pepper"The Wigan is way is all about demanding the absolute best, setting the highest standards and winning stuff. Isa busts a gut and is a decent and likeable guy, but so is Smithies as so will Bateman + more next year. We've got too many average, run of the mill players and fans just seem to accept it. Hank, Bibby, Isa, Marshall, Clubb all give us depth when in reality we need that extra quality.
I'll fully lay my cards out on the table and say that I think that current SC level is wrong. It's weakened us to position where we just feed the NRL and that's not good enough for me.
I'll ask you the same question - what does the Wigan way mean to you? What do you want for the club?'"
Like every fan, I want to win trophies and that's why I'm as ed off as the rest of us right now, but if we replace these run of the mill players as you call them with extra quality we become what we were in the 2nd reign of Uncle Mo. A decent 1-13 and then f*** all else.
In this modern day.....that doesn't win trophies.
I do agree with you on the SC level though. We have dragged the top teams down to the same level as the poorer teams rather than challenged them to get better.
As good as Saints were last year, they get hammered by their 2006 side every single time.

| Quote ="sergeant pepper"Because it's the same tunnel vision that many of our fans have and what's lead to us being just another team.
Every time a fan suggests a big name signing, dares to talk about grand plans for the future or criticises a limited ability player you can bet your bottom dollar certain fans will pop up and shoot them down. It's either why would x come to us, we shouldn't risk doing Y or every team needs a Isa type player.
There's a serious lack of wanting to us be truly great again.
As I've said in a previous post - Watson will have to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat every year to maintain his success. He might be ok with that glass ceiling, who knows.
All I know is the challenge and potential rewards of being the head coach at Wigan, Saints or Leeds are absolutely life changing.'"
You do realise I have absolutely no control over who we sign don't you? I also said I would try to sign him. I'm just more realistic, I understand that it's not the 80s anymore where we can just sign whoever we want.

(Either way, I fully expect him to remain into 2021 by the way)

The difference between us now and under Mo is that the current squad has plenty of youngsters to give us depth (as it should be).
Of course we need those squad type lads, but I'd argue we've got too many. I'd point to Hank and Bibby as perfect examples - do we need both? Could you take one of those and the salary of say a Clubb and get one decent player instead? With Bateman here next year, do we need him, Isa and Smithies + Greenwood & Faz? Zak is a great lad, but we're playing him at centre - is that the best use of his salary? There's a lot of filler imo.
Completely agree on the Saint's thing. It's a massive worry for me how far back the game has gone, but if you listen to some then it's never been better.

Youngsters still need to be paid.
Agree on the middle part though. Our squad is a little unbalanced IMO but we still need to have those filler type players.

| He sounded like he wasn’t convinced he’d be here next year when he spoke to Jenna Brooks last week on the Sky podcast. I’m hoping he’s been told that we had to win a trophy or else he’s gone because after not reaching a final last year, it would be the only thing to save him now for me. The team are devoid of ideas, relying on individual moments to see them through and the only thing that seems to win us games is a steel that’s been instilled in to these lads over a decade by other coaches.
Lam came in as a caretaker and it still feels like he is one. Ian Lenagan hasn’t got much wrong in his time at Wigan but the call to wait 12 months for Edwards to take over was one hell of a blunder. He either wanted the job or he didn’t and if he didn’t want it straight away, he shouldn’t have been considered. We need to have a clean break from all that nonsense for next season and get a new man in who we believe will be here long term.

I think is key and why I'm leaning towards Watson as my first choice. Part of me would love us to circuit break the club and league with another Madge or Holbrook, but realistically those guy are only 2 - 3 year options.
If Watson could come in, improve the lads we have and get us to a final then he'd probably be here for 5 + years imo.

| He sounds like a man who knows he won’t be here. The podcast on Sky, the post match interviews. It’s like he’s lost interest because he knows the job isn’t his come the final whistle of our last game this season.
I think fondly of Lam from his time here as a player, he’ll always be thought of fondly for that and his work with the youth and blooding them in. Perhaps sometimes at the wrong time but he’s given them a shot and kept faith in them mostly too. I’m gutted it hasn’t worked out for him but times time. He needs to leave and the whole back room staff be overhauled. This is the end of the cycle started by Madge in 2010, it’s time for new staff with new ideas and a better way of working.

FWIW with two finals under his belt, Watson is ahead of what Robinson was at the same points in his career..

| Just listened to Lam on Wigan TV. Same old quote
“I can’t put my finger on what went wrong”
If you can’t then you should be the head coach of Wigan Rugby League.
Yes the squad isn’t perfect, but more than capable of being at least competitive with Leeds (and saints and Salford last year in the semis)

A couple of ###### days , the rest of us will be having nightmares about that performance till the end of the season (which was probably after that game) By his body language the man has given up.

Nope. In a salary-capped game, you need to make the most of what you have, and we already have a considerably better squad than Salford.

She’s here, you don’t see LeBron for dust after a Saints defeat but never away when the opposition lose a game.
We need a coach, no more and no less. There’s more talent in the current squad than Holbrook had to work with at Saints when he took over from KFC. If we get the right man in then who knows, we may have a dominant period like Saints have had and win 1 trophy in 3 years

| It's time that some supporters stopped blaming Lam and whoever is the Coach and faced the fact that the first team squad is not as good as a Wigan squad should be in class, experience and size and the people to blame are those running the club, Lenagan and Radlinski.
It has taken Leeds around four or five seasons to get over the loss of their great team led by Sinfield, but now they are more or less back to normal while we are heading in the same direction as they were as a result of having a squad made up of players who should be retired by now, players not good enough and young forwards especially at prop who are lacking in experience and size like other clubs. Wigan are the only top club which does not have any of the big and experienced South Sea Island players from down under like you see at other Super League clubs.
In yesterday's game, again led by a captain who only plays in odd games and again in the short time he was on the field, dropped the ball and give away a penalty and now is a pale shadow of what he was at his peak.
Sorry, having to say this but when you have seen many of the great players over a period of fifty years or so supporting the club, you then start to ask yourself, what the hell is Lenagan and Radlinski playing at where the signing of top class players both from this country and down under is concerned?

| I have often thought that our teams always seem unbalanced. Yesterday John Wilkin said that you should always find a place for your best players even if they are out of position but looking at our teams I cannot agree. Two good full backs but only one good centre in the team is ludicrous. We have lots of good young forwards but no real strike middles. We have plenty of tacklers but are light in the kicking department and most of all we do not have a plan B.

| We've only got one good centre, and he wasn't available!
Although, seriously, Hardaker is not a great centre, but he does a job for us there and puts in a good shift. As someone pointed out the other day, for a player who came here under a cloud, but to play at full-back, who has been dumped from that position in favour of Bevan French, and shifted to centre, which he doesn't like as much, he had knuckled down and become a steady, reliable, if not spectacular performer. I was one one of many who were very dubious about signing him in the first place, but I think he's earned the respect of fans with his efforts on the pitch.
