| Quote ="jonh"This is very much the issue.
Basic bash and barge tactics with a team equipped to play that way.
A lack of support runners because we are too busy setting up for plays rather than playing what is in front of us.
Our once infamous but very successful wrestle at the PTB is now a shambles with most other teams being more successful and better drilled at it than us.
The biggest problem is it is the same issue, week in, week out over and over again regardless of who is on the pitch. As the saying goes if you do what you have always done you will get what you have always got.
I believe this team has the potential to comfortably win SL, however they are bring sent to battle with a blunt sword and being asked to beat an enemy armed with machine guns.
Individual brilliance got us in a string position in the league, once that is contained by the opposition we are being totally found out.
I expect a big win against Leeds next week, I hope for one at least, and for some everything will be fine, normal service resumed etc, but it will only be another papering over the cracks, if it happens.'"
We are probably one the worst teams in the competition and haven't got the potential to win anything.
In the next few weeks we play teams who are lower than us in the league away Leeds, Salford, Cas and I think HKR. Can you honestly see us winning any of those games?
We have got absolutely nothing to offer..
I have seen more aggression from an U9's team. All this talk of "toughness" is absolute shoite. There isn't one guy in the entire squad and I include MM who could fight their way out of a paper bag. The softest mardest pack I have ever seen. Not one tackle hurts the opposition and as for wrestling well they can't even do that even though they must be in the "pit" all week.
We have backs who just can't pass. The pass from I think it was Smith from a PTB in the first half was so bad I genuinely couldn't believe it.
A bunch of lads with too much time on their hands who just can't play rugby.
Anyone who thinks that this shower of a club can win anything this season had better put down what they are smoking because it isn't legal.
These are not cracks these are fundemental issues and the fault is with the 3 wise men.

Wigan would quite possibly be very hard to beat given they had two quality halfbacks ... but they don't ... and as long as they don't ... they will have to play it rough and tough.
Not sure why they can't go out and get a couple.
Smith is hopeless.

| When Sneyd scored the first try, a fella near me remarked "Fancy a 7 scoring like that", or words to that effect. You's sure wait a long time to see it from our 7. I didn't think Hull were fantastic (they didn't need to be), but they were organised, combative, and took their chances.

| I think we are the most boring team in Super League. So dull. Same old plays.
Play 1 - short ball to prop
Play 2 - short ball to prop
Play 3 - Inside ball to a forward in the middle of the field
Play 4 - Same old move to the wing that stalls because the passing is poor/slow
Play 5 - Crap panic kick from Matty Smith
ALL GAME.
Time for change. I wouldn't like to see Wane sacked, just replaced when his contract is up.

Stop copying our plays, Cunningham thought of it first. You will start using the drop off pass, next.

| The fact that when we got within 2 points of Hull, all we did was drill a kick into their 10m was absolutely shameful and proves we have a lack of ideas, creativity, organisation and skill.

| Our powderpuff pack, a braindead of late captain and bang average outside backs panicking with the ball.
We deserved what we got. A good hiding and exposed for what we are.
Average.

| I know I sound like a stuck record but we will waltz into the top 4 and most likely be at OT in October. Which annoys me in a sense because we are cack for most of the season but have a habit of turning it on when needed. Saints are similar - they were a 40/20 away from the GF last year and they'd had dog's abuse off their fans most of the season.
If we don't lift silverware this season that will be 3 years without and that's enough for any Wigan coach to be shown the door. We are playing a progressively worsening brand of RL and it needs fresh ideas. Wane can count himself lucky he has had players like Bateman who can drag us to finals regardless of our complete lack of structures and organisation.
I don't agree that we're one of the worst teams in the league, we clearly aren't. But we have miles more potential than we are achieving. People have said individual errors can't be blamed on the coach - I think they can.
A top coach instills focus, composure, confidence and has the team working to clearly understood plans that rub out brainfarts and panic plays. Maguire being the obvious comparison. This current team looks like a rabble potched together with sod all organisation!
Saying all that, we'll t*** Leeds at Newcastle next week

As a Hull fan, I was really happy with those plays, you were on top and causing us problems, you should have tried a more attacking play, we were winning, but still trying to win the game (although some dumb offloads) but it paid off in the end.
I reckon if you had gone for it at that period you would have won.

Around the hour mark (when we brought it back to two points) Hull looked on their feet, they were definitely there for the taking. A missed tackle later on the your 40 and you go up the field and the game was effectively over from then on.

I don't think there is a Specsavers in Orrell but there is an opticians in Pem where I suggest you book an appointment.
Without Bateman we are a bottom 2 side. We are absolutely useless across all positions.
As I said earlier with all the away games coming up I just can't see a win in the next 5 or 6 games and that includes Leeds twice.
We have got nothing and I mean nothing to offer.
For the first time in my life last night I wanted a team to really finish us off and stuff 50 or 60 on us just to emphasise how dire we are. The first time we play Hull, Warrington or Catalan and they hit something like decent form they will put 50 on us without getting into top gear.
This top 4 nonsense and aspirations of a GF is wishful thinking there is no logic to it if you believe what you really see.
Can anyone really believe that if by some miracle we finish 3rd or 4th we are going to go Warrington, Catalan or Hull and actually win with this boneless shower?
Get real this team has been on a decline for a number of years the problem is have we reached the bottom yet or will the decline continue? My view is once teams realise just how poor we are they will look forward to giving us a good hiding and we will descend down the table which will reflect our true position.
Any team that contains players with work ethic of a sloth like Crosby, Mossop, MM, JT and Flower together with a half back who has nothing and add a pinch of backs like Sarginson, Gelling, Gildart and Tierney who can't catch, pass, draw a man or kick then you have a team of middle 8 calibre then add a nonentity of Isa a busted flush in SOL and it's a total rebuild time.
I have already decided not to renew my ST for next year unless there are major changes in personnel and style of play.
SW has got to change his attitude and look for help but he won't. Radlinksi should already have a short list of potential new coaches but he won't. IL needs to put his hand in his pocket to replace the majority of the first 17 but I don't think he really cares but by the time next season comes around and ST ticket sales have slumped he might just wake up to a dose of reality.

| That group of players are capable of much more than they are producing, to consistently play as bad as we are can only mean we are atemoting to play to a certain structure, that said when we do manage to move the ball around its so blatant where it's going you have to wonder why we see so many errors.
The way RL is played had changed over the last few years, it's all numbers and overlaps rather than relying on individual talent. We don't seem to have moved forwards with our structures and we have a lack of individual talent and flair to compensate. We either need new ideas or we do need some new signings with flair and creativity to compensate for our bland methods of coaching. The fact neither of these are going to happen means we are destined to watch this dire brand of rugby for a good while yet.

Chris the players are useless. I'm tired of spineless, unfit, unimaginative and characterless
players of whom some play a whole 30 minutes a game albeit in 2 sessions with an hours break between the sessions.
I was SW fan but he is dead in the ditchwater. I think all this talk of middles, soft backs, toughness, the Wigan way and another tough week ahead has finally frazzled his brain.
KR and ILs recruitment policy must be the worst in any team sport outside of Newcastle. They have brought us such stars as Pettybourne, Powell, Isa and Laukaki.
The club is Amateurish to point of being funny if it wasn't so important.
A good dose of the middle 8s would be the making of this club.

We are as bad as 2006 we just haven't got the bottom of our true form yet.
I genuinely wouldn't rule out us being in the middle 8s.
Can you imagine relying on Crosby, Mossop, JT, Smith, Sarginson and co going to Leyth and having to win to avoid the drop?
Personally I wouldn't play any of those guys again this season even if it meant we had to borrow some lads from Amatuer ranks.
SOL is a busted flush. The club know this but behave like ostriches.
A totally clueless club who have got what they deserve with their negative attitudes, lack of morals, woefully poor work ethic, total lack of basic management skills and reliance on clipboards and statistics.

| I don't think our outside backs are terrible: Charnley and Manfredi haven't turned into bad players overnight, Gelling is a threat to opposing defences, and Gildart shows promise and is certainly worth sticking with (his error which led to their second, was it, try, when he tried to flick it back from the side-line to Charnley, showed his inexperience more than anything else. And the awful pass itself from Sarge, was it?).
But yeah, we need at least a couple of decent props and a good half who can lead us around the park. And modify tactics on the hoof in a game if things aren't going as the coach planned. I've remarked before that the top NRL sides do in fact very much play in this 'traditional' style. If you watch a team like the Cowboys, they have props in Tamou and Scott and Hannant with great go-forward, two gifted play-makers in JT and Morgan, and outside backs who aren't considered the superstars of the comp by any means, but who get the job done.
I don't think things are *quite* as bleak as Itchy paints them, but I do think our league position flatters us and agree it won't be maintained if we keep this up. Opposing teams, some of whom seemed beat in the past before they'd even stepped on the pitch, will no longer fear the DW as a fortress.
I've never left a game before the final whistle before last night (albeit only by a couple of minutes); it seems a bit daft when you've had a six and half hour long car journey to get here, but I did yesterday. Many who'd been sat around me were long gone (and it wasn't a deodorant issue, I assure you).

| What is the point of having decent wingers if they never ever get any decent ball where they have some space and/or time to work with? You might as well put a "middle" out there and be done with it and we will then have "tough" players all over the park.
Manfredi should be our go to player and I don't think he has had one decent pass all season. What a waste of talent.
Gildart has promise but still relatively unproven and hopefully he will develop into a good centre.
We are an awful bunch of players.
Where do I start with Sarginson and Tierney other than saying they aren't rugby players?
Gelling can't pass but that doesn't seem to matter anymore. Yea gods a centre who can't pass you couldn't make this up.
Crosby and Mossop should just be paid off or left to rot. Both are totally utterly useless and its an insult to use "prop" when stating their position. An odd game where Mossop makes some yards doesn't mean he has good form it means his shoite displays are marginally better than his usual yellow displays. If Crosby said he would go tomorrow to Aus I would honestly pay his one way fare and if he would take JT with him I'd chuck in a few beers for their journey. JT has done zero since his return and basically is robbing a living.
I'm amazed at how patient Wigan fans have been for the last 2 seasons when we have had zero entertainment and treated like an afterthought in fixture lists. A club that appears to be oblivious to the shambles that that surrounds every facet of the club.
I was a SW fan but his time has come and gone unless he has a Saul on the road to Dasmascus experience in the next few days which is as likely as any Wigan "middle" being capable of playing more than 15 minutes at a time at some in the near future.

| Quote ="Itchy Arsenal"What is the point of having decent wingers if they never ever get any decent ball where they have some space and/or time to work with?
I was a SW fan but his time has come and gone unless he has a Saul on the road to Dasmascus experience in the next few days which is as likely as any Wigan "middle" being capable of playing more than 15 minutes at a time at some in the near future.'"
I think you can add Gildart to the can't pass brigade.
Can't argue with anything else you've written unfortunately.

I nearly did mention that about Gildart but at this point I think and hope that he deserves a little more time before I put him the the can't pass category. My brother in law is in your camp with regards to Gildart.
I actually missed off Smith from the can't pass category but I think that's because subconsciously I have him in the he isn't a rugby player category or at least he isn't a halfback or whatever we call them these days.

| Smith is hopeless these days, and although they are no world-beaters, as we've seen in recent weeks, the likes of Gale and Sneyd are so much of an improvement on him it's ridiculous.
Once again I wonder, what is going through Sam Tomkins' mind at the moment?
