And this is where your argument falls down, as the great JP was guilty of a much worse 'knees-first' challenge last year: I forget who against, but he deliberately put his knees into the body of a player in the act of touching down, whilst clearly making no effort of a proper tackle.

The worst incident I've seen was Chev Walkers blatant punch on Sam Tomkins whilst in the act of scoring a try at Odsal a few years back, he was knocked unconscious but I don't recall an 8pt try being given that day.

| Quote ="Cherry.Pie"There are plenty of players who have been given the 'penalty machine' tag over the years because they give away a lot of penalties for interference. Over the years it's been O'Loughlin, Joel Tomkins, Hoffman, before that Bailey, now Farrell. Basically, some very good and very experienced players give away penalties like that because they are expected to slow the game down. All teams try to do it. The hard working back row forwards who make plenty of tackles generally do it the most and sometimes they push it too far.
I don't quite get the criticism of Farrell. He's a better player now than ever before. He makes a huge number of metres, a huge number of tackles, is consistent, gets stuck in when things are going tough, has improved his skills so that this season he's created tries and breaks with smart passes and also put in some good kicks.
Occasionally he'll lose his cool and do something petulant out of frustration when things aren't going right. It's not something that happens that regularly and he's hardly in a minority of players who that applies to.'"
I agree. He made some poor decisions in the Wire game but generally is one of our best and most reliable players. Others make mistakes week in and week out and get let off with comments about mistakes being forgiven because they are flavour of the month at the moment.

Hopefully he'll learn his lesson, you can't defend what he did.

Deserves a suspension.
He'll probably submit an egp and take the one match ban.

| Teams are guaranteed 2-3 penalties a game from him, when things go against him he throws his toys out of the pram and becomes petulant.
As a player he's going backwards.

Definitely.
On another note does anyone else find it odd that he is the only player charged with something out of every player in SL since the start of the Easter period?

| In my view it was something and nothing and wholly unexceptional. If that was the worst piece of foul play over the entire weekend, well, I would be surprised...

If he'd been any later he'd have fouled a Wakefield player.

I said at the time and on here afterwards he should have been binned. It simply wasn't necessary as he wasn't committed and could have easily avoided contact. He did go knee first but was sliding, he didn't drop directly on to of him. An EGP 1 match ban would be fair, if he decided to contest it he deserves what he gets. He does have previous for a similar incident in the GF too.
I just wish he would stop the petulance and concentrate on rugby, if he does he is a top class player. When things aren't going to plan he seems to react like a hormonal teenager.

| He deserves a ban. You don't get much foul play from Farrell so I'm not going to criticise him too much. He's not easily rattled but when he's frustrated he lets it show far too much. EGP and 1 match which he can have no complaints about.
On the plus side, we've got quite a few players who are returning from injury and others who are showing good form. Assuming Farrell is an immediate pick along with Tomkins and Bateman, we've got Isa, Burke and Gregson fighting it out for a place on the bench, so Farrell's ban might ease a selection headache slightly.

| I don't dispute the fact he is a good player and is a great "numbers" player for meters, carries and tackles.
I actually don't see too much nasty stuff in his play with the exception of the idiotic flop against Wire.
I also don't mind that he is prone to giving away a penalty or 2 most good forwards do especially playing the role he is at his size.
My issue is the timing of his penalties. He comes up with some stupid penalties at key moments in games often late in the tackle count or when we are putting the pressure on the opposition in defence close to their line often swinging the momentum back in the oppositions favour.

| Quote ="Pacific"Nonsense yet again!
As soon as Ratchford realised he was awarded an 8 point try he was up and running as if nothing had happened.
Farrell was trying his best to stop the try. Cant blame him for that. Ratchford went for an eloquent swan dive when scoring to impress a few fans when he only needed to place the ball on the ground. If hed have placed the ball on the gound he wouldnt have come into contact with Farrell. I hope every Wigan player shows the same commitment to stop trys as Farrell did as he was the only one sprinting over whilst others thought it was a lost cause.
Bring back the biff!'"

+1
I think we can put this issue to bed now though. I agree with most on this, i think it was deliberate and out of order and thought he deserved a ban for it which he is now getting so justice is done. I do find it funny though that other clubs can comment and call it the worst incident ever in RL as if their clubs' players have never sh*t housed before. I could name an incident from the last couple of years from every single side in the league and if i can't remember any from the top of my head a bit of research would put pay to that.
Farrell deserved a ban he is getting one, Warrington deserved the win and deserve to be top which they did and are and we should all move on and look forward to the next meeting in which i am pretty sure there will be an incident we can all whinge about, probably have something to do with Ashton Sims ha ha
