Seriously? That's the singular most barking statement I've seen on here this evening.
SW is a passionate pie man & I've got no problem with his attitude to games against the Stainers (wherever they come in the season).
That stupid little Welsh tw*t has nobody to blame but himself & personally, if I was in charge he'd be carrying his P45 with the rest of his kit out of Orrell as soon as the accountants get in on Monday.'"
Band him for 12 months he would not need a P45.

dangerous

Just as a quick FYI, you have no proof, circumstantial or otherwise, that Shaun Wane sent the team out there to be deliberately reckless, so please pipe down.

It doesn't though, really, does it Pete? You've been around Rugby long enough to know that every coach who's ever held a team talk has said something similar at one time or another. The only difference being that it's usually behind closed doors.

Shhh don't let reason and common sense cloud their hatred and fear of the big bad Wigan!

Of course no one can prove anything like that.
Be that as it may, theres a video of wane telling his team to be reckless and knock people out, and then one of his players does just that in another game. What conclusions do you expect opposition fans to draw?

How about the reasoned one that it's no different to what our own coaches will have said from time to time and we've also had players go out and do similarly foul play within the next year or so without the two incidents being indicative of a grand conspiracy. Or is that too much to expect? I guess it is...

But we don't know what other coaches say. I mean, when you compare the demeanur of someone like smith with that of wane, do you really think smith tells his players that kind of rubbish? There was a no holds barred behind the scenes doc on GB in 2005 and 2006 with Noble as coach and he never said anything of the sort and he won a fair amount in his career.

Both Smith and Noble are far more media savvy than Wane and Smith also of a different disposition. What about Cullen for example for Wire? Same opinion? Are you really also telling me that you think Noble won't have said something similar in his career behind closed doors? He's a self confessed lover of the Biff! Most clubs will have had coaches that used similarly emotive language. If you know anything about rugby you'll know that to be true. It doesn't mean they're looking for players to go out and make the sort of attack we saw on Saturday.

| Quote ="LewCharnock"Oh come off it. You really are suggesting that behaviour from Flower has something to do with Wane's coaching? You're usually a great poster who talks a lot of sense. Flower would have faced a sin binning if he left it at the first punch IMO, but that second punch was out of order and fully deserves 6-8 matches, which I think he will get. Saints fans know deep down they were lucky that the incident happened in the first 3 minutes. Wigan still should have won that game, but congrats enjoy your victory, Saints did brilliant with their injuries to make the GF.'"
No your missing my point mate, I don't believe for one min that wane would ask a player to do that, no way at all would he do that and I really really believe that.
I think maybe he had you to revved up with his "we hate THEM" and " I was brought up to hate them" and also " I'd never let my daughters go out with a saints fan" so IMO he'd just got so wound up before the game with Wane trash talking that it wasn't controlled aggression.
In big games, I'm all for aggression and being fired up and I've praised how well up for it Wigan are in big games but maybe just maybe Wane took this a little to far.
For what it's worth, I thought Wigan was probably the better team. You was opening us up with ease out wide and you'd think saints was the man down with the overlap you was creating.
Great effort with 12 men for so long in a big game but saints just hung in there and we took our very few chances.
I'm pretty sure Wigan will come back stronger after that.

fair comments Pete although I think you may be taking Wane's 'pantomime villain' comments a little too seriously! Do you really think anyone in the Wigan dressing room really believes he'd have any say whatsoever on his daughter dating a Saints fan? You don't know daughters very well if you do! Haha

Fair enough then, good assessment mate. Interestingly, I said to my Dad when the players came out Flower looked 'up' for it when he ran towards the Wigan end. Perhaps a little too fired up obviously! Congrats on the win, any Grand Final win is not to be sniffed at.

A quote form the Wigan Today article you have attached - Brown said: “He got hit in the head didn’t he? Without the ball. “You know that’s going to happen when you play Wigan. That’s standard with their front-rowers.
I wonder what Browns take on Lance's attempted jaw breaker is now since Flower got hit in the head (with an elbow), without the ball.
Not condoning the second punch but Lance really has to learn lessons from this incident - cheap shot merchants sometimes meet their match.
As for the first punch, I don't know what the standard ban is for a punch, but you cannot ban someone for a longer period of time because they throw a quality punch, however, I would ban him for a long time him for the ridiculous second punch. Likewise Hohaia must face the consequences of his jaw breaker attempt if the game is to have any credibility - then again this is RL and given the way the RL pacify Leeds (Peacocks punching episodes going unpunished being classic examples) I have no doubts the instigator will get away with this scot free !

How big of a miss is Blake Green going to be? I see danger every time he gets the ball. He's a very clever ball player.
I don't think you can't go with a kid to replace Green, he's to important IMO.

I actually thought he was poor last night - which is a shame as hes a good player. Not on the level of Finch, but a very good player nonetheless. We'll miss him.

Big miss, he always seems to play well and come up with a play in big games like yesterday, I think it was his pass to Burgess IIRC. By all accounts it will be George Williams who takes over but he was hit and miss a few months ago when filling in. I particularly remember a shocking performance from him at Bradford.

We went with a kid in Burgess to replace Richards and now nobody is missing Richards. Good players come and go but I predict George Williams to replace Blake and have the same impact within 12 months that Joe Burgess did. He will turn out to be better than Blake when he has fully matured.

| I will start by making it clear that BF's first punch deserved a sending off never mind the second one which was way OTT. He deserves whatever ban the RFL throw at him. While everyone is taking a moral high ground I should point out that it was Saints who came out of the blocks first with the aggressive high shots from Masoe and then Hoiaha. This is a man's game which is played hard by all and sometimes it boils over and on rare occasions it goes too far as in BF's case.

A young winger and a young stand off is different story IMO. Most backs start first grade with a run out as wingers to get them ready but asking a young guy to play 6 consultant each week is a big ask.
