No there is nothing wrong with ambition but it helps if there is some credibility attached to it and it is not credible a coach with less than two years first team SL coaching experience is going to get a job in the NRL now or in the future as no one knows (including Wane) how his career will pan out. As such he'd have been better keeping his mouth shut as it makes him look a bit silly.

I am not sure why any British SL coach (never mind Wane) thinks they would get a job in the NRL.

Madge got a job in the NRL after 2 years as a SL head coach...

I really don't see where he has "Made himself look silly", i think any coach would have answered these questions in a similar way. Some may have been more reticent, but i like his honesty when asked a question. I would rather that some mealy mouthed people you see talking all around a subject, rather than being honest.

But, like SW, you are entitled to your opinion, as i am mine...

Dave, honest question:

Has there EVER been a time in your life where you have been 100% content with all things regarding Wigan RLFC? (As in, the way the club was being run and the team was performing on the pitch).

And if so, when was it?

1) He was asked a direct question.

2) He hasn't been offered one yet?

3) One of his daughters works over there?

Wane is quoted: "The challenge of going over there excites me and, who knows, one day it might come off."

The only person who could claim that makes him look silly is someone who appears to have a vested interest in making him look silly.

All he's done is state that he has an ambition to one day coach in the NRL.

Even by the normal standards of your sniping, this is juvenile stuff.

I think it's pretty obvious by Wane's wife being flown out by the New Zealand Warriors along with Sam's mum there's been some form of offer or inquiry for the two of them.

Have they paid for the tickets for them?

That's going of an Aussie journo who claims the New Zealand Warriors had them flown out, they are doing all they can to lure Sam by the looks of things.

I've heard it's a done deal that he is going next year.
There seems to be a lot of pm's flying about aswell.

He is quite arrogant and i think hes poor with the way he handles the media. However, he has done great to get the team at the top of the table this year. New halves combination, losing so much talent combined with injuries, Wane and his staff have done a great job this season so far. He's very passionate about the Wigan club and i think that gets drilled into the players and thats something you dont get with an aussie coach. I think he will be a loss to Wigan if he does go, but who knows whats going on. If i goes, he goes and Wigan as a club will hopefully move on and bring a good coach in to replace him. Personally, i'd love to see Tim Sheens here

Its crapp being top of the league with a squad of highly motivated youngsters that have been brought through by that arrogant git.

I hate the fact that we have the best defence and attack and that we are playing some of the most entertaining and skillful rugby we have played in about 15 years.

What did make me smile was SKY Sports news showing fans leaving in the morning. One Wigan "fan" who I know was interviewed. He is a Wigan RL fan and a big Liverpool fan.

For those of you who remember a photo in Catalan with "The four Brians" should give you a clue.

I was concerned when Wane first got the job, i'd say he's proved us all wrong. The only fair criticism would be that he has the team peaking too soon.

If he goes i wish him luck and hopefully we'll promote Harris to head coach.

I would say that he has only proved wrong the people who openly doubted the original decision. Many here had an open mind. Sadly, an open mind is seen by many as being a happy-clapper...

Assistant coach at NZ Warriors from next season is what I'm hearing FWIW.

It would be just nice for once if some people on here became capable of reasoned arguments.

Why does everything have to be black and white when it comes to Wane.

I think he's done a lot of good in his time. We've got a good young squad who are being shown that you need to work hard for your right to wear the shirt. I also think he's been excellent in the transfer market with Smith, Green & Taylor being very good signings.

However i have to admit i don't like a couple of things he's done/said. I do think we aren't as physical as we were under Madge. I'm not saying we are soft or anything but i don't think we are as relentless or organised as we were in Madge's era.

I also don't love his media skills. I have to admit one of the things that really made me like Madge was his handling of the media. I loved his say nothing to the media style. No need for sound-bites or headline grabbing comments.

But I'm not sure any team will ever have the perfect coach.

While I thought Maguire was the best coach we've had since Monie/Lowe in terms of his effectiveness on the pitch - the press weren't always fans because he'd never say anything, the rest of SL disliked him because he 'introduced wrestling tactics' (rubbish, I know, but it was something we were constantly criticised for), and ultimately he high-tailed it out of here sooner than any of us would have liked, or expected.

It always seems to me that even the most successful coaches fail to tick all the boxes. Look at Tony Smith - clearly a good motivator, tactician, man-manager etc, but dreadful in front of the cameras, especially if his team has lost. A few years ago, Millward and Noble seemed the ideal SL coaches, and yet since then they've been badly exposed at clubs where they hadn't inherited teams that were already of exceptional quality.

I think, in Wane, we've got the sort of guy that SL clubs should be looking to employ. Young, British, and not over-reliant on overseas superstars (okay, I'd like to have some superstars, but that's another conversation). He has still to win 'proper' silverware - the only thing he'll be judged on in due course (probably by IL as much as by the fans) - but we can't really complain about the standard of performances his team is displaying most weeks. And this year it's not as if he's burning up all his resources before the business end; at least not yet.

I like Wane, and simply can't understand the constant belittling that he is subjected to by some fans on here. If it's true that he's currently sizing up an assistant job in the NRL, I don't totally blame him - he wants some job security for next year, and it may be that Wigan will only be satisfied enough to give him another deal if we reach a final. Alternatively, Wigan may be in talks with him and he's trying to force their hand.

Someone commented they'd rather have Tim Sheens. I find that amazing. A 62-year-old Aussie, who knows none our juniors (a local bunch, which by necessity will be the bedrock of the club in the years to come), and who probably goes through the motions when he's coaching Australia.

All that said, if Wigan win nothing this year - again, I feel the management could get twitchy.
