In fairness though they did talk up Wire and then Wigan in 2011 and 2012 respectively during the regular season, routinely predicting that one or the other would be champions. These predictions were then unpicked by Leeds and, having been shown up as knowing no more than the average fan, they may now have turned towards supporting Leeds in much the same way that they used to trot out the old "never write off saints" mantra while worshipping at the feet of the likes of Cunningham and Wellens.

Going forward, I reckon you lot stand as good a chance as any as taking over the mantle of top team. Should this happen I'd say it's a cert that within a couple of years the Sky team will be 100% behind you and a similar thread will be posted on the Leeds/Saints/Wires board.

If that happens, I will unreservedly retract my suspicions. But I've always had an odd feeling that Eddie in particular is no friend to Wigan.

Im a Crewe fan and was watching them in the JPT Final on Sunday.

During that match they were raving about Crewe as if they were a premiership team. They obviously arent having "an exceptional season" as theyre not even in the playoff places in their league but youd think they were the best team in the country how they were going on.

Unfortunately Leeds are on TV every week? And get first billing on fulltime?

I think that a lot of you throw a deaf ear at Phil Clarke having a Tommy Tank over Wigan near on every week (if you're playing or not).

But I fully understand Wigan's obsession with Leeds. I welcome it. Leeds had a similar thing with Saints for a while before we showed them the door.

They are the reason why I am cancelling my Sky subscription in June. As now cant stand having the TV on as all I want to do is put my foot through the TV or worse speak to my Mrs.

Stevo needs to go and so does Eddie. I can't remember which match it was but Phil and Brian were on and they were debating and it was quite interesting listening to them as they came across as knowledgable and Stevo didn't join in and started doing comentary instead. I also watched Back Chat last week and it was pleasure not to have Stevo on there and Baz seemed knowledagable and quite humorous as well.

The obsession at Leeds is certainly with Bentham, Silverwood used to be a season ticket holder at Headingly, before he became a second rate referee. So they yorkshire puds have always got him on side for split decisions. But whenever Bentham (lives in Leigh, not wire by the way ), gives anything against them, then suddenly the conspiracy theories filter out.......


I agree about the commentry duffers. I would love to sit with them and explain the rules, particularly Stevo, as the game goes on. It can be a bit embarrassing to listen to them when they are supposed to be the premier team.

As far as Phil Clarke is concerned, he speaks the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth....always honest...never shows bias, and I think he is wonderful.......

It's just what the commentators do. Whoevers at the top is over-hyped and can do no wrong. It's happened with all the top teams over the years.

They lack the mental capacity to offer any real insight or form their own opinions. I really wouldn't get wound up too much by it, I'm sure they'll be fawning over wigan by the end of this season.

Wigan bought all their previous trophies and had to sell central park due to their extravagance whilst the Rhinos have won their trophies during a salary cap era whereby each club can spend the same amount on players,almost like winning trophies on a level playing field if you like, funny coincidence that Wigan haven't been as successful under these regulations

Leeds were at just as much as Wigan difference being Leeds failed misarably plus Wigan always had a huge chunk of local lads in the squad.

More revisionist history - Wigan sold Central Park due to financial issues caused mainly by the new Whitbread stand built at Central park going way,way over budget not because of over spending on players, true Wigan were in a situation where they had to maintain success to maintain the playing staff but that was manageable - the over run on the stand completely destroyed the club finances and budgets. But lets not let facts get in the way of a rant shall we?
