Yes, that's whats happened here.
The fact Sinfield has been brilliant for about 8 seasons is irrelevant. I wonder whether some people on here even watch the bloody game.

It certainly read that way to me, He was the most effective player during the play offs, arguably the most important and difficult time of the season. Sometimes an aggregation of less obvious talents can add up to more than the sum of their parts.
Frankly he was amazing in the play offs,is he the deserved winner? maybe, maybe not, but for me Sam T wasn't the MOS this season, where as i would have given it to him last season, so go figure.

| Quote ="Robbo"No doubt he had a great game in the GF, and maybe he is under rated. Even so. Would you rate him above the likes of Cameron Smith? Jonathan Thurston? it's a pretty endless list so I wont go on.
I don't think he's a bad player. Infact I think he's a very good player and good at what he does, I just think it's laughable that having a few good games towards the end of the season has seen him named the best player in the world this season, when anyone who watches RL on a regular basis could probably name a large number of people both in SL and the NRL who could have been named ahead of him.'"
There is a counter point though, Sam T was brilliant at times for you lot last year, yet in the CC SF he was utterly awful, so it could be said he is a flat track bully. ( not a point i subscribe to, just playing devils advocate).
I don't see Sinfield as much as leeds fans do or probably as much as the panel who awarded this to him do, i suspect neither do you.
What i did see, is what he did in the play offs to you and us, he was amazing a real standout, he has conducted himself with nothing but dignity and professionalism since he was a kid and is an inspiration to all who want to play rugby league.
To me these things matter in a player, Thurston and Smith do not always conduct themselves particularly well.
Are they better, more talented players ? Yes they are.
Did they have more influence on the success of their club as an individual than sinfield did last year? No i don't think they did.

T'was nought but a joke, however if you think me mocking Jeff's assertion that O'Loughlin is 10x the player Sinfield is proves your point then I think you need to restate your point - or explain how on any level that assertion can be described as anything other than delusional. (Please note I'm not saying anything about anyone being bitter, I'm not slating O'Loughlin, I'm not even saying Sinfield is better than him - although cards on the table I do think that he is)

| An odd choice to say the least.
He was fantastic at times for Leeds last season, but to say no-one in the sport was better in 2012 is incorrect.

Great captain, as I said, probably the best captain of the SL era for all he and Leeds have done. But it still doesn't make him the best player in the world.

| I think this award is similar to when Faz won it in that you could argue to the cows come home over him not being the best player in the world etc, BUT his influence over his team was huge and a world class contribution, probably over and above any other player in the world, and as such who is to say he does not deserve it, despite not actually being the best player in the world in real terms.

| Didn't Farrell only get it as he was quitting the game and to fool the RFU into thinking they were getting the "Best Player in the World"? Sir Kev has a few good years in him yet!

I had this very conversation earlier jonh, with a good friend who is a Leeds fan.
I'm never sure whether he is an "Avid leeds fan, or a "Rabid Leeds" fan. Can anybody help with this?

For me the best playr in the world in terms of talent is Greg Inglis.
I have just read through the list of winners over the years, two stand out as being excellent players but never ever being worthy of being called 'worlds best player'
Andrew Farrell, and Anthony Minichello, oh and maybe Garry Schofield so make that three.

| He has gone from perhaps an under rated player to by far the most over rated player in a day. If you could choose any player in the world to sign for your club, would it be Kevin Sinfield?

Well if we at Wigan could choose any of your players.
I wouldn't pick Sinfield.
Found to be far too wanting at international level.
I would choose Burrows every time, the speedy little scamp.

I think if you took say Widnes and added Sinfield they would win more games than if you took Widnes and added Inglis.
Inglis is a world class fullback, he is probably going to go down as a legend of the game, but Sinfield takes a whole side and lifts them to better, Inglis himself is just a top quality player.
If i could watch any player in the world, it would be Greg Inglis, if someone handed me £1.7m and said build a squad, I'd start with Kevin Sinfield.

| He is a very club good captain (the best in SL) and deserves recognition for that.
But best player in the world? Nowhere near. He is not even international class.

So why hasn't he raised the standard of our international team, for whom his performances have been patchy / mediocre.

| IMO, the Golden Boot winner should be a player that every team in the world wants to try and fit into their side. Sinfield does not fit this description, Cameron Smith however, does.

I can see your point but I think Cronk or Smith or a hand full of other ozies would help a struggling team win more games than Sinfield would. They have the leadership skills plus the eye catching ability.

I agree people really need to look at the bigger picture here. In the bigger matches when it really matters he hardly ever puts a foot wrong and control the games. Whilst there are far better players in the game atm there is no one player that can control a tight match like him especially in SL. Wether he is the best player over a season that's another matter but when a game really matters he is usually the man of the match. People will say it should be for the overall season and i do agree that point. But the best peak at the right time and he has done this year on year for almost a decade.
He has won the award for the wrong reasons maybe but does not change the fact he is the best big game player in SL history.
