Oh boo hoo. What about Carmont? Have you actually seen Green play?
Can I ask you a question, if you dont want Green, id like you to list names of who you actually do want, and il give you the reasons why we cant sign them, so will everybody else.

According to some was classed as Rubbish 2007/2008ish beofre being classed as Rubbish only as a scrum half but a World Class 9 after a few appearences for his country.
Despite playing predominantly scrum half 2010 in a League leaders & Grand Final winning team and a Challenge cup winning team in 2011 He never made a scrum half and would be better at Hooker.
In 2012 he played SH for 17/18 games and was influential in some fantastic performances from that position before unfortunately breaking his leg whilst playing for the Exiles (coincedentally at half back) and subsequently Wigans season has spluttered along.
Returned to the Wigan team and played predominatly SH at HKR and was on the pitch for 7 of Wigans 8 tries.
Currently being touted by many as Mickey McCollorums replacement at 9 for the Play offs (Thank God for that Because MM apparently is no good as a Hooker anyway).

I think we should vote you and hockmonster onto the board at Wigan, your obviously far more intelligent about RL than Ian lenegan, Shaun Wane, Iestyn Harris and Paul Deacon.
Green will go well. Give him a chance and stop pretending its still the 1990's, il say it again WE CANT SIGN TOP CLASS AUSSIES ANYMORE.

He was cack.
How did Wigan fare with £400k+ per year Barrett playing for us?
IIRC we had half a dozen players earning 80% of the salary cap and the rest on pennies and having to cheat the cap just to keep them all.

I raise you New Zealand Internation David Vaeliki (I actually got Shivers just typing his name!).
This could be a good game?
Have we signed more Good players that turned out Bad OR Bad players that turned out to be quite good?

Let's keep this thread and bring it back in three years to see how Blake (and Gelling) went on.

| And il ask you all this, since Lenegan came to Wigan, have we signed a BAD player? (Il kind of give you gelling bit he hasn't had a real chance yet)
Trust him and trust the club. They havent let us down since 2010.

Before someone mentions Karl Pryce (and they would have), he had a 100% strike rate. 16 tries in only 16 appearances for Wigan.

To be fair, we soon saw the error of our ways and fired him off anyway. Our problem is that some of our fans are stuck in the 90s and "expect" us to make huge signings, it wont happen because of the salary cap.
Would you move to Wigan from Sydney for the same/less money?
No?

| only need the following reasons
SL cap only £1.65m (upto £1.75m with allowances)
NRL cap almost twice that of UK
Union Cap more than twice that of UK
Hard to attract top players when benefits elsewhere far exceed what SL can offer

In two years time Rocky and George will be hammering at the door and Sam Powell will be turning the handle and pushing it open next season.

It depends on whether we can prise Jonathon Thurston away from the NRL.
On another point, are there any class English halfbacks in SL?

Correct, that is why we are signing the best of British junior talent. We have a gap to fill until the emergence of some very exciting youngsters.

| Green and Smith on paper looks like the worst partnership weve had since Orr and Moran, but thats more the reflection of the decline of super league than our recruitment. Think IL has done a great job in finding two new halfbacks, and they should keep us in the top three next year.

So would I, but given that I can't afford to move to Australia I'll have to hang on here and make do.
What you and I want has no bearing on the reality of sporting economics.

| In all fairness we have to see how Blake goes before casting a judgement, and give the Smith/Green time to bed in before passing serious judgement.
My only gripe is concern over the development of younger players who might prove to be superstars if given a run in the first team. I was very pro Sam to 1, but over time I would like to see him return to 6 playing off a controlling 7.
I can't help but remember how Sam got his first team break, when Tim Smith broke his arm, before that Smith was picked over Sam. I just wonder how it would go if we used Sam as a 6 with either Russell or Murphy at 1.
Yes both are fresh, but so was Sam. With this Powell could be the first man into the halves if anything happened to either Smith or Sam, giving him some first team game time. With this we have 2 up and coming youngsters who won't be far behind.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

If you include substitute appearances, Tomkins had played more games than Smith up to that point and he was only 2 games behind on starts.

I think Blake Green has been signed as a stop gap for the halfbacks we've got coming through in Powell, Hampshire & Williams and then further down the line Shorrocks & Whittaker
