| Saturday's performance confirmed the old maxim of don't go into an important game with any unfit players. If Finch and Hansen hadn't been able to train all week it was very unwise to let them play in a crucial game against top-flight opposition. What happened in the 2nd minute set the scene for most of the game - Finch had probably his least effective game for Wigan yesterday. Sam Powell may have done better - al least he was fully fit and had had a good game against Hull. Prescott was clearly not 100% and off the pace and it may have been better to play Flower who had only missed the previous game and was thus match sharp.
I have been disappointed with Hansen since he returned from injury - seems to be like the player of several years ago rather than the tackling beast who also ran good attacking lines from the first part of the season.
It is too much to ask MM to play most of the game - hopefully when Tommy returns this will allow some interchange with Smith coming off the bench and either he or Tommy taking over at number 9 to give MM a rest.

Disagree. Had Charnely scored and the forward pass been spotted we would've been beaten by a narrower margin that would have been tremendously flattering to us.
On a slight aside, something needs to be done about the number of forward passes that go unnoticed. If we have the technology for video refs, there must be technology to allow the video ref to ajudge forward passes.'"
I agree totally with this use of the VR for blatant forward passes that lead to tries - fair enough if it is a line call and impossible to be sure because of the various camera angles, but when it is 100% transparent, then surely the VR should be able to make the correct decision.
What was disappointing with the Monaghan try was that Hodgson was clearly a yard one side of the 20 metre line whereas Monaghan caught the ball a couple of yards the other side of the line. How Gansen and the TJ didn't spot that, raises a few questions. Or did Gansen notice it and.....?

tbf coud be judged as momentum but think it was forward. but then again the one from riley to waterhouse that wasn't forward was pulled as waterhouse was walking over the line.

| We didn't need a Plan B yesterday, we needed the possession and field position to implement Plan A. Too many errors in our own half and poor last tackle kicks meant we hardly got either.
I don't buy that our attack is becoming too predictable at all. When we were at our best we had the deep line with Sam out the back plus runners going in to holes. It obviously can't work everytime as the better defences will read it correctly, but do it enough and it results in tries. We used a similar pattern for Thornley try and that was pretty much the only opportunity we had near their line where the right passes were chosen and executed.
Our attacking plays don't need overhauling, we need to get the basics right so we get enough opportunities to utilise them.

I think our attack is completely predictable. It's always a couple of passes out the back with Sam then running round and stepping, or passing. Every time we had possession yesterday I knew what was going to happen.

I'd agree with that, most team's plan B is look for a bit of individual brilliance from a star player - your star player was well marshalled last night. For me it was Warrington's defence that won them the game as it was against Saints, it was aggressive and meant you could never really settle or get a roll on. Form is a temporary thing though so I wouldn't be crowing them champions just yet

The replay showed Hodgson's hands releasing the ball forwards. That's why it was so clear cut.

It really isn't! If we set up properly everytime the ball reaches the 2nd receiver there's then an option for the short ball to Hock/Hansen or out the back to Sam, who can then go himself or pass to Goulding/Carmont. If it was so predictable we wouldn't have scored so many points this season. Yesterday wasn't about us being too predictable, it was about us not getting in to positions to put our plays on, and the few opportunities we did the passes weren't sticking.

| It doesn't matter if we had a plan A, B, C or D yesterday, if you continually drop the ball, give away penalties and miss tackles you will get beat when you play a Wire or a Leeds.
We need to go back to basics for these next 6 games and make sure we cut out the silly errors and we will have a great chance of being crowned Champions at OT

Where is this so called “momentum rule” is it in the rule book? Don’t listen to that Dewsbury dew-drop Stevo; he sees things no one else does. He also says things like, a kicked ball can dissect the winger and fullback; DISSECTED, does he mean BISECTED? I thought when you dissected something you cut something up, like a dead body. If he’s right there must have been a lot more blood than usual on the pitch. He said a player couldn’t forward pass to himself! Well if that’s true they must have been playing gridiron.

| The momentum rule may apply if a pass is less than a yard forward, but Hodgson's pass was at least 3/4 yards forward - the 20 metre line shows this. Hodgson was well behind the line when he passed and Monaghan was a few yards (at least!) in front of the line when he caught the ball.

I suggest you study the law of physics. The only way a pass can truly go backwards is when standing still. The ball will travel on the same trajectory as that of the passer.
